General NFL Chat

Not really. Officials on the field marked it short. It was reviewed and NY agreed. It was close not sure there was any incompetence involved. Unless you just despise the Steelers, I’m guessing that’s it.
It looked like Ertz was on the 41 yard line. What gets me is officials many times are 40-50 feet from the play, and off angle and they run in and spot the ball? How can they tell? The Steelers do seem to get their share of calls.

If the official had spotted the ball a couple inches short, I would have understood … but spotting it an entire yard short show complete incompetence … and NY didn’t agree … they said the call stands … not confirmed … which only means the did have an angle to prove where it was … I think the official wanted to put it on the line, but picked the wrong line (42 instead of 41) … absolute joke of a spot.

Ok, so now do the Jaylen Warrens fumble at the 1 when his momentum was clearly stopped. The guest referee on the broadcast even said the whistle should have been blown. We can play these games all day if you like.

You are really reaching on this one … that is a bang, bang play that could have been called either way … and I would have understood … there is no way the ball should have been spotted on the 42

Refs on the field and in New York disagree.

… and refs on the field are never wrong … and do you understand how the review process work? … it doesn’t sound like it … saying “call stands” is NOT saying they agree with the call … it just means they did not video evidence to overturn the call … big difference than saying “call confirmed” … which says they agree with the call.

Too much is made of this spot. It was short. Whether it was put at the 42 yard line or 41.25 yard line is irrelevant. Bad optics but irrelevant that its now Steelers ball.
The Warren fumble at the 1 is not a reach for comparison. It was a judgement call on the field that wasnt definitive enough for review to overturn ( just last the spot)

Nobody is mentioning the D-lineman jumping offsides on 4th & 1. Even as a rookie he shouldve known better. Everybody in Allegheny County knew Russ was there to draw the D offsides

Before the Steelers lined up for that 4th down, I could see Tomlin talking to the official on his sideline. I presume he was telling the official he wanted a timeout if the play clock reached zero. That was another dead giveaway that the Steelers were not going to run a play there.

lol, not a fan of the Steelers huh? Brownies maybe?

100%. I was in the car and had the radio on ESPN. Steve Levy and Sal Pal calling the game. They were saying "obviously this is just an attempt to get Washington to jump offsides", and then it happened. What a dope.

The spot is relevant … if they had spotted it on the 41 and given him the first down … it also would not have been overturned by NY … and both calls where calls that could have gone either way … neither was definitive … finally, I am not saying the call cost Washington the game … just spotting it on the 42 was egregiously bad … I don’t think anyone would have argued it if they had spotted it a few inches short … spotting it on the 42 is what made it controversial.

The Dallas Cowboys are the laughing stock of the NFL. Did you see what Micah Parsons said about Mike McCarthy? Basically called his head coach a stiff after the game Sunday. Of course all the guys have podcasts now so he walked it back today. If the Cowboys had any stones, they'd suspend the guy for a couple of games without pay. I'd guess his agent called him immediately and told him to cut it out. That stuff doesn't cut it. It really shows you the dysfunction of the Cowboys when one of your better player spouts off like that. Of course nothing will happen because it's all about the players now.

The most over-rated, over-publicized team year after year. It's a pleasure seeing them fail.

I have to put a warning out to OXAT622. Don’t view this because we know how age offends you! 😎

But it's so easy to see why they fail. They have guys who are "me" guys. Of course they aren't the only team like this but when you have an organization where the employees do not respect upper management, it's never going to work.
Now "fail" is a relative term because nearly all pro sports teams are successful financially Winning on the field or court has nothing to do with the financial health of your company. The owners of these teams are multi, multi millionaires and if they are going to lose money, they will sell. So because you never see these teams for sale, they are doing well.
And for the players, there is a moment where they all make enough money they don't have to worry about ever working a real job again. So at that point, what is the motivation? It's like when you see the common person win the lottery. What makes you get up in the morning? We see these athletes lose their edge and suddenly competing for playing time becomes irrelevant.

Of course, Jerry is making tons of money. But, all that money can't buy a championship or the realization that his inflated ego is the chief reason for his lack of success. My heart bleeds.

True, but the biggest "me" guy is the owner.

Jerry's ego is too big; he needs to realize he is not a GM and stay out of the football people's way.

Lions absolutely pound the Jags 52 - 6. Lions did a complete rebuild 3 years ago did it the right way. Build an o-line (Sewell may be the best lineman in the league) and a good defense esp. the secondary.

So are you implying the Bengals should have taken Sewell instead of Chase?
Instant gratification vs long term success. Bengals are not alone in that, plenty of NFL teams draft the next savior at QB only to see him flop because of the team and coaching around him. Lions took a longer approach built the team and winning with Goff at QB.
Edit: Sewell barring injury will likely be a 10 - 12 year All Pro, Chase may have signed his last contract with the Bengals.
