Free Concessions at Coastal Carolina Games

Yappi

Go Buckeyes
Coastal Carolina University will offer free concessions at Brooks Stadium for all 2025 home football games as part of the CCU Kickoff Meal Deal. Fans can get four free items per visit (hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, fountain drinks) using the Coastal Carolina Athletics App (to be released later). Specialty items and outside vendor food will still be paid for. This initiative aims to enhance the fan experience and boost attendance as the Chanticleers strive for their sixth straight bowl game. The season begins August 30th at Virginia, with the home opener on September 6th against Charleston Southern.

Toledo has had similar in form of a voucher as part of their "Fan Plans" for quite some time. Oriinginally $60, now $90 I think. Includes all home game so five or six games, parking, assigned seats, gear voucher and game day food voucher.

I'm just curious if this will attract enough fans to help them take the next step in building a program. I like this type of out of the box thinking. I also think that they have to have a plan in place to make the football team more competitive to take advantage of any increase in attendance.

For Toledo, I think one of the largest benefits was exposure. That gear voucher was a golden touch.

The number of times walking around town I saw Rockets shirts sky-rocketed. This is OSU, UM, ND land and that's what you say. Not ocunting pro-gear. There was a significant switch.

I argued for years on this and the Toledo boards against the old whiners saying the local could never compete for attention against the big three, that people will root for someone or something they can actually be part of as opposed to just share some name-sake. Most people can't afford to go to an OSU, UM or ND game. They can afford to go to a Rocket game. Helps that we have cool logo, venues and competitive teams.

They have upped their concession game considerably too. Though I doubt that was original thought by anyone in the Toledo AD house. Probably more a reflection of what they do at the Mud Hens games where quality and imaginative chef level offerrings at reasonable prices is the norm.

I worked the concession stand at a University of Akron football game for a fundraiser. It was embarrassing how poorly it was run. Food prices were high and selection was small. And way too many items and supplies were out of stock.

Schools should take pride in every aspect of game day.
