Point taken but in your quote...IMO, there's a few things that hinder MAC kids/coaches from getting state recognition...
1. A lot of people just assume they're going to be the best of the best year in and year out, so they look for newcomers. For example, in DVI this year, Chip and Tiger have been there, so who's a coach that did something exceptional for the first time or for the first time in awhile. You could give Goodwin COY every year, but voters will vote for someone like Hillsdale's HC because it was their first time...
2. Unlike a lot of other leagues, the MAC is almost secretive with their stats. They typically don't come out until final Week 10 tallies, when they vote for All-MAC and even then, they're hard to find. Most leagues around the state use the same website set up, where stats are just a few clicks to find.
Those 2 things combined equal out to MAC schools being underrepresented/ overlooked when All-State is realesed. Again, Just my opinion.
"so who's a coach that did something exceptional for the first time or for the first time in awhile?"
A senior player dies in pre-season, and Chip was able to keep the team focused through the season, past the ML loss and win State against a storied program in Kirtland.
Chip was overlooked.....again
He has NEVER gotten this award.
