IMO, there's a few things that hinder MAC kids/coaches from getting state recognition...

1. A lot of people just assume they're going to be the best of the best year in and year out, so they look for newcomers. For example, in DVI this year, Chip and Tiger have been there, so who's a coach that did something exceptional for the first time or for the first time in awhile. You could give Goodwin COY every year, but voters will vote for someone like Hillsdale's HC because it was their first time...

2. Unlike a lot of other leagues, the MAC is almost secretive with their stats. They typically don't come out until final Week 10 tallies, when they vote for All-MAC and even then, they're hard to find. Most leagues around the state use the same website set up, where stats are just a few clicks to find.

Those 2 things combined equal out to MAC schools being underrepresented/ overlooked when All-State is realesed. Again, Just my opinion.

MAC stats have been on MAC website since middle of season and Daily Standard publishes stats weekly. For Marion Local/ Coldwater/ Minster this year, it is hard to accumulate stats when the 1st team only plays a half. Marion Local's defense only gave up 22 pts. in the regular season yet only had 2 players make 1st ,2nd, 3rd team All Ohio on defense, and 4 on offense (3 position players and the kicker) (6 total all 1st team)) while scoring 463 pts. during the reg. season. 463 - 22 in reg. season. I guess the writers think the M in MAC stands for Midget Athletic Conference. This is why they (media) come out with All - State after the Championship games are over to avoid Goodwin's wrath.

I remember when Goodwin did that, how long ago was that? Big thumbs up for Goodwin doing that , back in the day!!!

by the way look how many Hillsdale players made the first three teams.... and this is not s SHOT at the players , it is against how players are picked.... i mean Sidney lehman had 6 players scattered across the 1st three teams?

As a MAC coach recently stated, "The voters must not watch film."
H no they don't...
Should have been Chip Otten - Coldwater instead of Dave Carroll, Milford Center Fairbanks; for D6 Coach of the Year. Otten 15-1 and State Champion. Carroll 7-4 and lost in Week 11!

Also, Coldwater's Miles Pottkotter should have been at least 2nd Team O at running back or 2nd Team D at linebacker. Not even honorable mention? Give me a break!!
what did Pottkotter get in All Northwest Ohio? and u are right, the dude is a PLAYER!!!

Just to prove my point. I spent 5-10 minutes looking for the MAC football stats this year. I couldn’t find them. Then, I looked up the MVL, and it took about 30 seconds. Because like I said, most conferences/leagues use the same format website. Sure, some of the best in the MAC don’t get the numbers because of running clock and what not, but voters aren’t shouldn’t have to hunt and hunt for stats. And the Daily Standard info is usually behind a pay wall. For whatever reason (and it’s been discussed on here) the MAC is very secretive about rosters/stats. That coupled with them always being at the top is why their players are under represented for All-State

I don't have a subscription to the Standard

I’ve seen that before because I was reading the MAC ‘24 thread when it was announced. But even your link is a Google Drive PDF. There’s not a link on the MAC site that says stats. You have to go looking for it and know where to look and hope for the best. If getting your league kids recognized state wide, why make it so difficult?

do you have a list of the VOTERS who actually vote? Lima news does NOT cover the MAC anymore, Dayton paper does NOT cover the MAC any more, the SIDNEY paper does NOT cover the MAC any more...

Scroll down to where it says 2024 Football Leaders. The MAC website (and WBL currently) used to have this website design.

I’ll give you Hillsdale. The Wayne County League website doesn’t provide stats, but it does provide a roster

These teams are starting to represent the “let’s give everyone a trophy mentality “ l mean come on five first team quarterbacks last I knew we only play one therefore only one per team yet at tight end and wr are only a few listed making it seem like that position is unimportant not sure who decides this but I wish they would be consistent. Pick the teams and make them truly that. A team just like football -a team one per position nothing more nothing less and while I am on it how is it possible that some teams have five or six listed on first three teams yet some of the best teams in the state only have a couple. IMO this makes no sense with zero accountability for the truly good players on good teams. Teams like Hillsdale Lehman Catholic had good records but played no competition to see if their players are in fact some of the best in the state. Playoffs show in fact they are not close to the good teams. I will go so far as to say that some that made all state could not start for some of the better teams in in

Selecting 6 qb's for D-VI "1st team" is nearly a joke. Same with 8 running backs.

Why is it seemingly necessary to greatly inflate the numbers for these positions? There are only 11 offensive players on every snap in a football game, yet a total of 14 qbs and running backs are named "1st team." Shouldn't a "1st team" offense consist of 11 players to reflect an actual team, with only one qb and two running backs?

These amplified numbers are a little like the typical D-VI high school having 11 valedictorians and 10 salutatorians out of only 80 graduates.

then u can only guess how many kids from west central ohio being picked

People are on here acting like local sports writers have the time and are paid well enough to watch film on all 700 OHSAA football teams.
It's a neat experience for the kids that get selected, can we not just leave it at that?

If they are not taking their responsibility seriously than don't do it. Writers don't have to watch film on all 700 teams, just players that at least make all league - all district. In 2021 D-7 Marion Local went undefeated (closest playoff game was 19 pts.), beat the (21) D - 6 state champs yet had only 2 players made All Ohio (1st-2nd or 3rd team). Tim Goodwin must be a miracle worker.

Youre correct. If you can turn on any film and confidently say not all of the ML linebackers shouldn't have at least been 2nd team then you don't know football. Seitz and Heitkamp were plain snubbed.

Grove had Trenton Barraza (who was 1st team as a junior) and Kylan Mayes on the first team list, along with a handful of honorable mentions. Andy Schafer IMO has been deserving of a coach of the year recognition for the last several years now, but it should have been shared with Goodwin and not the other 2. So frustrations aside, at least I feel like they got it right for my own team... haha

Has that ever happened before? Revising the all-Ohio teams?
I don’t believe so, but Frantz really screwed things up with NW Ohio kids. In one case, a district POY received HM all-OH.

POY have always been automatic first-team selections. I haven’t seen the new list, but multiple coaches have confirmed.
