Concerts. 2021 and beyond.

Red Clay Strays just announced their summer tour and Columbus and Cleveland made the list. Columbus is Aug 12 at KEMBA Live with tickets going on sale Mar 7. I’ll be getting my tickets that day then going to see Stephen Wilson Jr that night.

Mt. Joy is also at KEMBA Live on April 21 2025 for what looks to be the first outdoor show. My son and I plan to by tickets a few days prior, depending on the weather. My concern is more rain than temperature, but either/or could keep us from going. I checked the average temperature in Ohio on April 21 and it’s 65 degrees, though you never know with Ohio in the spring.

My birthday is the 21st. In my 42 (soon to be 43 years) we have had everything from 75 and sunny to 20 and snow. Good luck!

Update. The Cursive show was top notch, they are lifers and always put on a great show. The Saves the Day show was another bucket list one for me, they played their influential 1999 album "Through Being Cool" in full. That album just holds a very special place in my heart. I could not listen to it for 100 years, then listen to it and remember everything about it. Not huge Senses Fail fan, but they put on a great show. I also went to this show with 3 of my oldest friends. Everything about it was great.
Mars Red Sky is stoner metal band from France. They were awesome and Howling Giant from Tennessee won my heart with their brand of metal.

I have added a bunch of shows at Westside Bowl, I won't list them here. If you ever get a chance to make it to Westside, you will not be disappointed. Just a top notch place with so much to offer.

About to start my stretch of 3 concerts in 9 days. All very different and I am really excited.
1/28 Donny Benet, Grog Shop, Cleveland
1/31 Kerry King/Municipal Waste/Alien Weaponry, House of Blues, Cleveland
2/5 Tim Heidecker/Neil Hamburger, Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland

Along with the shows at Westside Bowl, I have also added.
2/19 The Get Up Kids/The Anniversary, Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland
3/1 Willliam Montgomery (comedian) Funny Bone, Cleveland
4/9 Bright Eyes/Cursive, Agora Theatre, Cleveland
6/1 Coheed and Cambria/Mastadon/Periphery, Foundation Ampitheatre, Youngstown
7/16 Ghost, Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, Cleveland

Then my first out of town show.
11/8 Bear vs. Shark, Thalia Hall, Chicago
Update. Donny Benet in Cleveland on 1/28 was awesome. He is kind of a tongue and cheek 80's throwback guy. Great crowd and he really does a great job with the music and his overall persona. Kerry King/Municipal Waste was a fun night at the House of Blues! METAL!!!
Tim Heidecker and Neil Hamburger at Beachland was really fun. Went with one of my oldest friends and we have been fans of Tim since "Tom Goes to Mayor", his music is surprisingly good also. The Get Up Kids/The Anniversary was very good also. I saw this same tour in September in Columbus with the addition of The Anniversary who hasn't toured since 2014, I had to see this one. Was a great night and got to see one of my old friends from college. William Montgomery at the Funny Bone last Saturday HOOTIE HOO!!.

Upcoming
4/9 Bright Eyes/Cursive, Agora Theatre, Cleveland
5/10 Amigo the Devil/Tele Novella/David Talley, Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland
5/16 Baroness, Grog Shop, Cleveland
6/1 Coheed and Cambria/Mastodon/Periphery, Foundation Ampitheatre, Youngstown
7/13 Murder By Death/Laura Jane Grace, Mr. Smalls, Pittsburgh (Murder By Death Farewell Tour)
7/17 Ghost, Rocket Fieldhouse, Cleveland
11/8 Bear vs, Shark/Signals Midwest, Thalia Hall, Chicago

I will also be at Westside Bowl in Youngstown on 3/8, 3/12, 3/20, 3/22, 3/28, 4/6, 4/26, 5/12, and 5/30.

Thank you for posting this for me. I’m completely shocked there’s not a Columbus date on the list. Just…wow. Unfortunately, I’d probably not make the drive to Cleveland. It’s likely sold out by now anyway.

I wouldn’t have bought tickets to see Kansas and .38 Special on July 3rd at the Rose Theater, but today I won two tickets on the radio by being caller number four. 😁

Just got back from 8 days in St. Petersburg , Fla. where we spent 3 days at the Tampa Bay Blues Festival.

Seen 16 Bands in 3 Days awesome venue right on the Bay with Yachts and Boats of all size's anchored out in the Bay and Dolphins swimming buy daily.

Did the VIP and highly recommend it. The Best VIP value we have ever done. $800 for the weekend , 16 Top Blues Artists, Padded Seats , 2 huge covered VIP Tents, Air Conditioned Bathrooms, In and Out privilages, FREE Beer, Wine, Soda, Water , Powerade drinks, Free Mimosa's on Sunday morning, Free Dinner and Free Jimmy Johns everyday. Plus a awesome TBB Magazine covering all the artists and a Thank You page with all the VIP members name in it. Access to the artists for pictures, autographs and merchandise.

Met a bunch of friends we knew and made several more new friendships.

I'll do a few artists reviews later . But the highlight for me was Friday Night when Chris ' Kingfish" Ingram headlined. He is the best young Blues Guitarist in the Country and also plays on the Jimi Hendrix Experience Tour just shredding Hendrix's Songs.

So i go to grab a quick beer leaving my wife upfront dancing with a bunch of ladies . Gone maybe 2 minutes come back and can't find her.

I Look up on stage and she's pulling a Jennifer Aniston . Up Center Stage with 9 other Ladies Dancing and she dances right over to the Kingfish while he's jamming on his guitar.
There is now hundreds of videos out there of her and the other ladies. Tampa Bay Blues Festival now has it featured on their Festival Website front page. Too Funny . She had to set her beer down right on stage she was spilling it. LOl

That is awesome! I’m completely jealous lol.

I’m going to see David Mayfield Saturday at Natalies Grandview. If anyone knows who he is I’d be shocked. You may have heard of his sister, Jessica Lea Mayfield. I think she put out an album with Seth Avett. They are bluegrass from birth, as their family was a traveling band of gypsy musicians from NE Ohio. Seth is on a couple of David’s songs actually.

Used to go out to Frontier Ranch every summer way back when they had weekend Blue Grass festivals. Seen the great Earle Scruggs there. It was very cool as people would just camp out all weekend there and after the shows ended in the evening people would light their campfires and break out their own instruments and just start jamming blue grass songs with whoever stopped by . If you were lucky one of the Professionals might stop by and jam with your campfire ensemble. LOL
I coldn't play anything but my GF at the time Dad was a good Picker and grinner as was his buddies.

Have Fun glad to hear there is still a Blue Grass vibe still going. I know bands like the Dead South and even Red Clay Strays bring elements of Blue Grass to their shows.
Its not for everybody but if you give it a chance and listen closely you'll pick up vibes of the Blues , Jazz and RnR. Its all intertwined.

I’ve been to Frontier Ranch once for the Bluegrass Festival. It had to have been 1997 because it was my first year in Columbus with the girl I moved here with we parted in Feb 1998. Her dad played bluegrass and I heard the story a dozen times that he used to play campfire jams there and one time was with Ricky Skaggs. Funny we both dated girls whose dads played BG and both used to pick after the shows at the Frontier Ranch. Maybe they knew each other lol. I’m about to send you a PM about something unrelated to that, but that’s hilarious.

The David Mayfield Parade at Natalies Grandview tonight was a good show that I didn’t expect or want to see, but was pleasantly surprised. I wanted and assumed he’d play his well-known songs, but he only did three. It was a completely new band with him and all but three songs from their newer material. I understand they’re trying to sell the new album and not his old albums and can respect that. A place like Natalies is so small that you can have regular conversations with the band sometimes and so we did. I talked to him briefly before another show of his, but we talked with them for a good 15 minutes so that was cool. My wife made it back from Cincy early so that was better than flying solo and we sat and talked with the family of two band members. All in all it was a great night. Bought a shirt to support them even though I didn’t want one, but my wife said do it.

Wow I had to go all the way down to find this thread. 🎸 🥁

I have Head & the Heart tickets w/Wild Rivers and Marfa on July 23 at KEMBA with the wife. It’s a perfect date night show as they’re pretty mellow so I see it being mostly a sit on the blanket atmosphere.

Evan Honer with The Turnpike Troubadours is at KEMBA Sept 25. Tickets are a ridiculous $74, all in, but I still might take my son. I knew when I saw him last October that he was an up and comer and would be playing bigger venues soon, but damn. That was at the Newport for under $30 a ticket. Turnpike Troubadours are damn good. Check out Goodnight Lori I Love You or Pay No Rent if you aren’t familiar.

My buddy and I are going to Trampled by Turtles and the 502’s on Sept 13. That should be a good one.

Did 2 days of Sonic Temple the Metallica Nights. Beartooth a very up and coming Metal Band from Columbus saved the evening Sunday night by busting it up from Nashville to replace Alice and Chains who cancelled because of illness.
My wife found a new band to follow " From the Ashes to the new" we were afforded a meet and greet with them after their set.
All in All it was a great time and got my Metal Fix out of the way for this year . Saw either all of or parts of 18 Bands Sets. Including the Insane Clown Posses who i really enjoyed musically but could do without the 5,000 bottles of Faygo sprayed around by them and their followers the Juggalo's.

Last night me and a friend went to Natalie's to support the Blues for a Cure show to raise money for Breast Cancer awareness.

Local Blues Legends Sean Carney as usual put together a stellar All Star Band Lineup of Ohio's best Bluesmen and Women . Including Piano / Keyboards prodigy 20 something Ben Levin from Cincinnate, Sadie Johnson from Marietta College who has performed Internationally since she was 13 years old. And Blues Guitar God Scotty Bratcher another prodigy who opened for Buddy Guy when he was 16 .

The last few weeks i ran into probably 20 Friends or Concert goers like us who are out enjoying life and the Music that brings us together.

Good Times !!!!

Next show Thursday Night at Natalie's Bluesman Mike Zito one half of the Guitar Slaying Bloodbrothers from NYC. In a room of 100 this is going to be a treat. Last time i saw him it was in front of 10,000 people.

Saw DMB at Blossom on Friday. Have James Taylor, Neil Young, the Goo Goo Dolls & Dashboard Confessional later this summer, after Staind & Break Benjamin a couple of weeks ago, and Explosions in the Sky in Columbus in April. Ive enjoyed the trend of all the millennial bands touring again.

Give us a review of the show in Cleveland.
Few friends went and enjoyed it. I've seen them a few times over the yrs and didn't wanna travel 3 plus hours for a show 2x in 4 days.

Potentially going to Dokken next week. Quite honest it's only to see Lynch as Don's vocals were so bad 18 months ago when I saw him and it was quite sad. Dokken, and Ratt, got me onto rock back when I was bangin'.

Speaking of...if I can go see Pearcy and Demartini at all....I'm down.

The Rose has some solid acts this summer.

George Strait was on My bucket list and had to attend when I had the chance. Was cold AF Saturday! He was phenomenal and when ya have that many hits there are some left on the cutting room floor.

Stapleton was fantastic as well and sang 3 with George. Was a bit funny....pretty sure he missed his cue on one of his vocals with George and ya could see him crqck a sly smile and those behind him laughing a bit.

The King, George Strait.

I saw George Strait at the Front Row in 1990. When he did his signature hat throw and walked out through the crowd, my girlfriend at the time ran over and grabbed his hand and was beside herself the rest of the night. Hard to believe that was 35 years ago and he’s still making music and touring. I still remember when Fool Hearted Memory started playing on the radio back in the early 80s, his first big hit.

Good stuff right there! He was moving a Lil cautiously. Reviews from his previous show a few weeks prior in Philly stated he sat alot because he had hurt his back.
