Final Comments:
We should have a competitive squad this year. Obviously, graduating three excellent players in the middle of the diamond is tough (Long- p/ss, Rapp-cf, and Smith-c), but we believe that we have some young players that can step into those roles. Cameron Perkins, who started every game at 3rd base last year, will catch along with junior Brooke Yoder (transfer from Boardman) and freshman Gabriella Spooner. Caitylnn Pleska will split time on the mound with Mackenzi Gamble (wasn't with the team last year), both can really spin the ball and fill the middle of our batting order. Pleska will play short and Gamble third, when not pitching. Maryn Hepler has the arm to play third, short, and second, when needed, and is coming off a great freshman season. Spooner has plus speed and can play outfield, infield, and catch. We also return two-year starters Ava Davanzo (1st base) and Alaina Johnston (rf), and Ella Dota (lf), who started every game as a freshman. The team also welcomes Anna Yonker, transfer East Palestine, that has the versatility to play middle infield and the outfield. Maria Malcomson (returning from an ACL injury), Alivia Bell (coming off excellent winter season), lone senior Madison Hitchcock look to battle for at-bats all spring. Sophomores Lillian Hoschar and Nora Ineman along with freshman Alexis Sperling and Peyton Stoy will have opportunities to contribute throughout the season as well.
