COLLEGE FOOTBALL 2024-2025

Utah State will be the 7th member of the “revitalized” PAC after it seems the PAC has been rebuffed in their pursuit of some AAC schools. This seems rather…predictable.

Just need to go ahead and kill (at least the existing) Mountain West by raiding whatever combination, or all of the above, of Nevada, Wyoming, New Mexico, Air Force, and UNLV. I think it’ll be all of them to retain the PAC 12 name in full and more importantly, to retain having a conference championship game.

Whoever that leaves behind (Hawaii, San Jose State, maybe 1-2 others?) will be Conference USA or AAC bound IMO. They’ll be put in a tough spot geographically and will be the G5 version of Stanford and Cal.

The news out today implies the remaining Mountain West schools may be sticking together, in part due to expected buyout penalties from schools leaving helping incentive some of the others to hang around.

If accurate this will set up an interesting scenario as both leagues will need members to reach the NCAA minimum of 8 schools. If they can’t poach from the few practical AAC and Conference USA options, which it appears they won’t, some FCS schools are going to have to move up for this to work.

The PAC needs 1; I’m guessing it’ll be Montana for them to hit their league minimum members. The Mountain West needs 2 due to Hawaii being a partial member, so for football purposes it may need to be 3 to have an even scheduling in football. 3 of the 4 Dakota schools, Eastern Washington, Montana State, and Idaho may be Mountain West bound. I’d guess NDSU, SD/SDSU, and Montana State.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Gonzaga becomes a Mountain West member for every sport but football

I love it when Army and Navy have winning teams, and both of them have looked really good this season. My son had a nomination at West Point, although he did not receive an appointment. But that doesn't keep us from rooting for Army. That being said, Navy's QB is fun to watch and it looks like they have a decent passing attack this season.

Army looked pretty good in their 42 - 14 thumping of Temple last night.

Wow. Unbelievably chaotic finish between really bad clock management by VT and a crazy play to end the game.

I was shocked it was ruled a TD on the field and equally shocked it was reversed on replay due to the initial limited visual of the ball due to the massive horde of bodies and hands clumped together for the jump ball.

I maintain it should’ve been a TD. The Miami DB was OOB when he jarred the ball loose

1. If Toledo and Northern Illinois leave the MAC or the Mountain West, to me, that's the nail in the coffin...what are we doing to collegiate sports?

2. Someone explain to me how Illinois won't cover 17.5, maybe even outright beat Penn State today? Spread seems fishy.

Overcast rainy day? Seems like a great day for football!

Franklin only really struggles against the likes of Ohio State and Michigan. He tends to demolish the rest.

Cam Ward was not that impressive against Virginia Tech. He made some questionable decisions and his accuracy was all over the place. The Canes were very lucky to beat a team that just lost at home to Rutgers. The ACC is pretty bad it seems.

I apparently missed that McMurphy report earlier this week. The Mountain West appears to have “football only” interest, which would indicate to me that they (smartly) want to fluff their numbers to 12 schools for football to maintain having a conference championship game.

Aside from getting a large payday to let them leave, the MAC has zero incentive to let those two leave for football while still getting to park all of their other teams in the MAC. Going from predominantly driving distance trips to having to fly out for a bunch of non-revenue sports is not a serious consideration with whatever few million they could get per year from a Mountain West media rights deal.

IMO this dies very quickly if the MAC tells those two they are out in everything if they try to leave in football.

Kentucky had a chance to take the lead over Ole Miss going into the half but Old “I’d rather tie than win” Stoops goes ultra conservative inside the 10. I’d be livid as a UK fan.

Stoops bailed out by an Ole Miss holding call though, with a great catch by the UK WR. Up 10-7

If Stoops hired a legit OC he would be a great coach at Ohio State should Ryan Day get fired. His teams value the LOS and know how to compete/win against the SEC even with less talent.

Nah. The decision to punt against UGA and being fine to bleed to clock and kick a FG against Ole Miss are enough to disqualify him from consideration for life.

Like I said, he would need big time OC to make more aggressive calls. Ryan Day is in a similar boat to him having called plays the last few years and really failed in the big moments. Maybe Chip Kelly can save him.

OC won’t change that though, it’s just Stoops’ personality. He’d rather lose a close game as an underdog than risk going for the win and possibly lose by a bigger margin

Idk, hard to say. So far Ohio States playcalling has been much better offensively this season than any time prior under Ryan because he finally let his OC call the plays. Before this I thought the exact same for Ryan.
