Cleveland Guardians

Starting pitching hands down. The pipeline of too pitching prospects in the system is running pretty dry now shockingly. Gonna need to do what you have been able to save on for years....pay for pitching

I agree it's starting pitching, that's why I listed it first. I'm just not sure who is gettable for them. I really do hope they can re-sign Bieber and that he is healthy enough to pitch up to his previous standards. I also agree completely that they should extend Kwan.

GO GUARDS!

I would keep Boyd and try to get Bieber on 1 or 2 year team friendly deal so he can audition basically. Definitely let Cobb walk.

Article i just read of top 25 free agents overall Guardians mentioned only for Bieber and Santander. Gonna need to try to sign or trade guys, not bolstering is not an.option. and Bieber probably out til all star break

I’m surprised to see so many willing to trade Josh Naylor.
Agreed. Only uninformed people think trading Naylor is a good idea. Look around at MLB first baseman production. Naylor was 1st in RBI, 2nd in HR, 4th in Runs scored. Sure he suffers in the batting average department, but he is still 7th in OPS.

If you want him traded, who are you going to get that is more productive? Don't say Manzardo. You need both bats in the lineup. The Guards have a shortage of power, and trading J. Naylor is a knee jerk reaction to a bad 2 week stretch during the playoffs. You need his bat and his clubhouse presence.

He is in the last year of his contract next year. His weight is becoming a concern and he has always been injury prone. He is a productive hitter, however, and you just don’t give him away. My inclination to trade him and Clase would be contingent on getting a productive everyday outfielder. That offsets some of Naylor’s production and they traded for Manzardo knowing this day was coming. My strong preference is Bryan Reynolds from Pittsburgh, but it probably won’t happen.

But you won’t get one for either or both of those players

Trade Clase? Might as well trade Ramirez and blow it up.

There is no obvious replacement for Ramirez in any way, shape or form. There are viable replacements available for Naylor and Clase if a worthy deal presents itself.

Who the heck trades the best closer in baseball? Yeah you could move Cade Smith there and then you have to move everyone else up. Why start creating holes you don't need to? Clase as closer lengthens the bullpen.

Trading J. Naylor makes sense if you consider that you have Manzardo who also plays 1B and is a LH hitter and is much cheaper. Do they feel he's ready to play everyday? And I have no idea what Naylor brings in return. I do think they have to address the weight issue, I swear he gained 30 lbs after Labor Day.

Unbelievable. Your team had the 2nd best record in the AL. And the proposed way to improve the team is to trade the 2nd biggest bat on the team, and the best closer in baseball? Stop thinking like a Dolan. Talk about really improving the team. There are several really good RF free agents, and go bolster the starting pitching. Leave the good parts of the team intact. Duh.

Maybe they can sign these guys for next year:

Does DeLauter have a chance at earning an OF spot next year? And how long until Bazzana is ready?
I don't know about DeLauter, but many are projecting Bazzana to be up in the big leagues as early as next season. I would think he might need a second year in the minors, though. Let him work his way from Akron to Columbus and maybe bring him up when rosters expand in September.

I am thinking like a Dolan. Yes, adding would be ideal, but we all know their m.o.

DeLauter will get a shot, but more likely gets a May call up if Noel isn’t looking good.

Valaika to the Reds as their next hitting coach...is this seen as a positive or a negative by Guardians fans?

I hope that's the last of the coaching staff leaving.

I was thinking the same thing about Naylor and thought it was just me. He had to be pushing 260+ lbs in that Yankees series.

I thought Pluto had some good points about Naylor and the prospect of re-signing him. You can't pay him more than Jose. He's got a history of injuries, with the leg injury the worst, and he's got the weight issues. Do you sink $100MM into a guy with the risk he has if you're Cleveland and you need that money elsewhere?? It's not that you want to lose a 100 RBI man but it's hard when you have Cleveland's payroll restrictions.

Dolan wants a team entirely made up of Will Brennans and Tyler Freemans. Best move would be to re-up Kwan, who has gone on record saying that everyone knows that Cleveland does not pay as well as the other good teams in the league.

Update on Fry....

Hello, we are students from Shippensburg University doing research on Major League Baseball (MLB) and sports fans. We are looking for MLB fans to complete an online survey about what it means to be a sports fan and what your team means to you. You will also be asked to help us evaluate sports team logos. During the survey you will be asked to answer a series of questions related to your favorite MLB team. The survey should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your responses will be anonymous, and we will not collect any personal data. You can skip any questions that you do not feel comfortable answering.

If you have participated in a similar study in the past, you are welcome to participate again.

Good luck with the survey, but this is obviously the slowest point in the year for traffic in the MLB threads. Maybe put this message in the NFL threads where people going now.
