Cleveland Guardians

It's easy to complain about Vogt, but it doesn't help when Kwan/Frye/Naylor have just fallen off a cliff offensively. I didn't expect Kwan to hit .400 for the season, but he's been a .150 hitter for the last 2 months. Naylor has been even worse. SS has been an issue all season regardless of who is in the lineup. The bullpen has faltered as well. Maybe Vogt hasn't been able to push all the buttons in the last 6 weeks, but it still comes down to the players hitting, pitching and fielding. That being said, all is not lost at this point.
And they traded a SS hitting 333 (along with 2 other prospects) for a guy hitting 145.

If the starting pitchers' performances live up to their names I like the Guardians chances as Ben will be Lively and Bailey will Falter.

GO GUARDS!

Rocchio needs to stop being cute with the flips and just throw it to first base. I'd seriously consider benching him and putting Schneemann or somebody in for that blunder.

This team can not handle a lead to save its life. Lively is just getting hammered.

Rocchio is a bigger clown than Arias.

Astros pitcher throwing a no-hitter against Royals in the 7th.

Yeah, but it's still only 1-0. Hopefully the Astros hold that lead to help the Guards out.

I can't believe he wasn't charged with an error on that play or on the horrendous throw he made in the 1st inning.

Both of the starting pitchers faltered as did the Pirates 1st reliever. Hell Cade Smith and even Mr. Clase gave up a run but the good guys held on to win 10-8. The bad news is it looked like Josh Naylor really turned his left ankle on his last hit. He is really hot with the bat right now too. I hope he isn't badly hurt. They need him for the stretch run. Matt Boyd on the hill tomorrow and the Guardians have won all 3 of his starts. Let's make that 4 tomorrow.

Agree. His gaffes almst collectively cost the game last night. Pine time till you learn how to not act like a rookie.

He definitely seems to have his head planted in his posterior more often than a starting MLB SS should. He can certainly be frustrating to watch at times.

Speaking of frustrating how about being a Pirate fan right now? I knew that the Pirates were swept by the Cubs in their last series but I didn't look at the box scores of any of the games. Last night Matt Underwood said that the Pirates had 39 hits and scored 23 runs in that 3-game series. In last night's game they had 12 hits and scored 8 runs which of course means Pittsburgh has put up 51 hits and scored 31 runs in their last 4 games and lost them all. The Guardians need to go out and win the series today.

I wonder what happened with Lively last night. He seemed to be pitching OK then got lit up for a grad slam and they were rapping him pretty well when the Guardians took him out,. Hope it's an issue with mechanics and not something more serious. he didn't seem to be injured. He did, however, look very "exercised" in the dugout after they took him out. (as in, not happy with himself)

He was absolutely steamed in the dugout but I do think he was just pissed at himself for not stopping the bleeding. I don't know if that ridiculous play by Roccio messed him up but he said all the right things about it in the post game interview I saw. He did seem to unravel after that play but that's baseball and he can't let that affect him. I don't know that it did but as you said he was pitching pretty well until that happened and then he got hammered. We don't know how the inning would have played out if Roccio just throws the ball to 1st base like he should have but worse case the Pirates would have had 1 less run.

Correct on Lively. I saw him several times last year as he was on the Reds. Not the most talented guy but a smart pitcher and a real fiery guy who really battles. He was just PO'd at himself.

Honestly Arias would be a better option.

Tellez hammers us uh-gain. It feels like the party's over tonight for the Guardians.
The good news is, the Royals and Twins are also losing

Guardians need to get the bats going. They're wasting a fine performance by Boyd tonight.

They did indeed waste a very good performance by Mr. Boyd. They went from 16 hits and 10 runs last night to 2 hits and 0 runs tonight.

Honestly Arias would be a better option.

The Royals did lose 5-2 and the Jays are up 15-0 on the Twins in the 9th so fortunately the Guardians lose no ground to either of them.

Need to win the series tomorrow guys. Alex Cobb back on the mound for the Guardians.

GO GUARDS!

Just spitballing for the heck of it............................Tyler Freeman was a pretty good minor league SS. Can't hit a lick, but isn't a dumb hot dog either. I think that he's an outstanding Center Fielder, but since he's now getting less time there I'd like to see him get a real shot at SS. *Actually I think he's the best athlete on the team and would do well regardless of where he played...........:)except in the batter's box.

Schneeman has a "funny" arm. When he's playing 3rd base he makes accurate rocket throws to 1st. When he's at SS many of his throws are 1 hoppers, or he has Naylor reaching (rather than stretching) left, right, over his head etc. Most likely needs to improve his footwork and/or delivery from there.

Gotta win today. Let's face it, Pittsburgh's a dangerous team. But if you can't take 2 of 3 from the last place team in the NL Central in the middle of a pennant race, you're in trouble.

With that said, Pittsburgh seems like a team that should be better than their record indicates. Got some good ballplayers on that team. Reynolds, Tellez, Cruz, Kiner-Falefa among others would all look good playing in Guardians unis. It's a good thing the Guardians aren't facing Skenes this series.

It bugged me last night when Naylor got doubled off 2nd when Lane Thomas' apparent extra -base hit off the top of the wall was caught. I know it's an aggressive mistake and mostly unavoidable, but still, it is frustrating. Killed what felt like could have been a rally inning.

That was a big mistake but I guess Nails thought he had to get a good jump because of his leg. If that ball had gone off the wall I think he would have scored without rounding 3rd before it was caught. The next inning the Pirates added two more runs, at least in part due to the fact that Roccio once again couldn't make an accurate throw to first base, and the game was over. I don't understand how the official scorer didn't give Roccio an error on either bad throw to first he has made in the first two games of this series or the asinine glove-hand flip behind his back to Gimenez.

Based on Mr. Cobb's performance maybe every starting pitcher on the roster should fracture a finger nail. :) Outstanding performance by Cobb.

Hopefully not adding on in the bottom of the 6th with a man at 3rd no outs doesn't come back to bite them.

GO GUARDS!
