Cleveland Browns 2024 Edition

Ya'll still subjecting yourself to this? It's a beautiful day to brew some holiday ale for it to be ready scUM week
Catching up on my honey-do list while listening (and chuckling). Slipped in a chilly bike ride this morning. Going out to play in the leaves. Yet again. 😀

Ward is 27 with 3 years left on his current deal w a cap hit of $24.5+ mil each year - who would trade what for Ward? I do not believe the Browns would get anything better than a 5th rounder for Ward with his cost and injury history.
Not only is this teams roster so bad. The morons in the front office have no idea what they’re doing with these contracts.

Well, it looks like Cleveland fans can once again return to the thing that they have become so used to - Browns Super Bowl ( scouring the mock drafts). The good news is that the Cavs are playing well and that it's only a few months until Spring Training. There is no use developing an ulcer over the Browns and their ineptitude; there is nothing we can do. We can't force the defensive backs to communicate with each other, the line to block for the runners, special teams to learn how to tackle, or upper management to draft players who can actually play. We have no say, except to sit there and take it ( how masochistic) and occasionally boo. So, as the weather starts to get colder, it would do everyone more good to find alternate entertainment on Sundays - our lives will be more enjoyable. Analytics has failed this team, as they have continuously drafted players based on 40 times and " potential," rather than going out and getting real players who can run routes, catch the ball, block rushing defensive linemen, and tackle; those who have a passion for playing the game and not just collecting a paycheck. Until then, we need to make this organization earn our respect, not blindly follow, hoping for different results.

The Browns essentially ran out the same team this year as last year's playoff squad, adding Dorsey and Jeudy and reinstalling the deviant at QB. The Van Pelt/Stefanski offense worked. Dorsey got canned in Buffalo and the offense improved but the Browns are "smarter" than a successful franchise and brought Dorsey in. Can Dorsey, pay the deviant to sit out the rest of his career, ditch Berry, Depo and the analytics team, trade any expiring contract you can get a pick for and move on.

The good news is that you will soon be able to get an NFL ticket for under $10. They were down to $17 before yesterday's game.

Regret not selling my tickets for week 1 when I could've gotten a serious chunk of change for them. Now I can't sell for face value. I do still like going down to the games just to people watch and have a laugh or two. I don't have kids but if I did I wouldn't waste my time down there on a Sunday. 3 more home games against the Steelers on Thursday night (always a fun atmosphere) the Chiefs (will go to that one for sure) and Miami (in between Christmas and New Years, so a way to get out of the house for a day).

As for the team itself. I think they caught lightning last year and got lucky down the stretch with Flacco. The roster really isn't that good and the local media really hyped the team up as something they aren't. Some things I've noticed:

1. Chubb is not going to return to form. It sucks to admit that and he's not worth anything in the trade market but I would like to see him get on a competitive team and go be part of a championship run. He deserves it.

2. I'd be on the phone with Detroit today, Garrett's contract is huge but I'd tell Detroit give us your #1 next year (almost guaranteed to be in the late 20s or 30s) and he's yours. He only has so much time left as well with the injury cycle he seemingly can't get out of. Detroit wants him and if they'll give away the number 1, both teams can walk away happy from it. We got the years of him as a dominant player and then a late 1st in return, they can go on a title run with him playing a huge role where they now need it.

3. Play DTR the rest of the way and see what you have. Who cares if we lose out. Winston isn't staying here long term, DTR may be able to have a backup role on this team if he looks somewhat competent the rest of the way. He hasn't so far but I do have to say he's been thrown into some lousy situations. If he genuinely stinks, he can walk too.

4. Haslam has to decide what he's going to do and I don't trust him. I think coaching is part of the problem but not the primary problem. I'd keep Stefanski as the HC. Get rid of Dorsey obviously. And Depo and Berry should already be gone, especially if they are going to get draft capital. I don't trust those guys to make the right choice. Haslam will most likely keep Berry and Depo and fire Stefanski.

5. The worst thing this team could do for the future is steal 1 or 2 games down the stretch. Just go 2-15 and get the highest draft pick.

100%.

The last few Sundays in Columbus have been gorgeous. Trips to the Zoo and parks with my wife and 18 month old granddaughter have been much more fun and healthy than stressing over this dumpster fire.

I do get a kick out of reading brian1227's in-game posts a day after the game. They are not easy to read since I lost my English-to-moron translation dictionary, but what I do understand is hilarious.

Come on team, you can do it, only 4 teams to pass to get to #1

Chubb has gotten stronger every game. You expected him to jump right in at a Pro Bowl level?

You are crazy if you think you a trading Garrett for a single #1. The bidding starts at a minimum of 2 firsts and a 2nd.

Actual fans care if they lose out. Who the hell cares about a draft in 6 months they'll blow anyway? Give me something positive on game day. The worst thing they could do is lose out.

Can probably start thinking about the next coach and GM too. Though I think Stefanski has been dealt a bad hand and is a good coach, you can’t really sweep out the front office and keep the coach. The new GM will want a guy he feels comfortable with.

Can’t trade Garrett anyway, due to the cap hit, but no way does anyone get him for one first rounder in the 20s.

I wouldn’t have re-signed Chubb even if he never was injured. Wasting cap space on RBs is not smart in today’s NFL.

I’m actually with Brian on drafting Cam Ward, if possible. He has played enough college ball to come in more ready to play than most rookies.

Cam Ward is listed at 6’2”, 223 lbs and has played 5 seasons of college football: 2 years at Incarnate Ward, 2 years at Washington Stare and this season at Miami. In almost 50 college games he has rushed 387 times for 452 yards & 19 rushing td’s. He is by no means a mobile qb but can move within the pocket. I do not know if he has elite physical skills or will be considered worthy of a Top 5 pick.

He can make all the throws and is mobile enough to buy time in the pocket. No need for him to be a running game factor.

Browns play 4 games against the Ravens D and TJ Watt - your QB better be more than mobile enough.

I have not seen Ward play enough to have an opinion on him. Most mock drafts have Ward rated as the 2nd thru 5th best qb and about the 15th thru 32nd best overall player in the draft.

The fact that brian is on the Ward bandwagon is enough to scare me. LOL.

Based on the highlights I thought Ward:
* Is probably 6’0”. #6 was in the saddle on a lot of the plays with Ward and I thought he was a bit taller. #6 is listed as 6’0”.
* Delivery/throwing motion is a bit of a windup. The ball goes down near his waist or just above and he kinda finishes at 3/4 over his shoulder. That is a lot of TJ Watt strip sacks & batted balls.
* most of the highlights were with him in the pocket throwing between the hash marks. Nice touch but a very similar ball trajectory/flight.
* Arm strength ???. One throw was from the hash to the wide side. Nice placement but uncertain of his arm strength
* Almost every throw he held onto the ball for 3+ seconds.
* Probably runs a 4.7 forty, maybe 4.65.

Ward definitely has talent but I do not think he is as good as this years rookies Williams, Daniels, Maye & Nix. Is Ward worth a Top 5 pick? Can the Browns put any top QB in a position to succeed and surround him with professionals - both players & coaches?

I like him better than any QB this year. They don’t have to take him. Might not be a bad idea to take a left tackle. It’s a good draft for tackles. As for Ward, he’s thrown a lot of footballs in college. That typically translates well in the NFL.

Mary Kay:
Za’Darius Smith is going from a 2-7 team to a Super Bowl contender.

The Browns on Tuesday morning traded Smith, 32, and a 2026 7th round pick to the 7-1 Detroit Lions for a 2025 fifth round pick and a 2026 sixth rounder.

Congrats for escaping from the House of Losers. I'm sure his teammates are envious. What this means is more Berry draft flops for the Browns.

Great trade for the Lions.

Just a so-so trade for the Browns.
