I'm fine with this. Especially if it were to take away a home game. I get what the NFL is doing with trying to expand their brand and make more money overseas. I don't really care about that though. I guess, eventually, there will be teams in other countries that could potentially compete with other NFL teams. The logistics would be interesting. How would the draft work? Would players be forced to go live and play in cities in other countries? How would contracts work then? What would be the first country to get a pro team? I think Canada or Mexico make the most sense, distance wise anyways. What's the next move? Could they use the preseason to schedule some games against teams in other countries in the near future?

PS: I hate this time of year sports wise, but it's come to this...

No international games, either. We’ll see what national games they get. To me, this reminds me of a couple previous years when the Browns were coming off good seasons and they earned a couple national games the next year…but they were all early in the season, meaning the league and TV isn’t really sure the Browns will be successful again and they avoid scheduling the Browns in marquee slots late in the season. I see an 8-9 season ahead. The schedule is too difficult for this roster and staff.

We do play them a lot, and you're right. 11 times since 1999, 7 of those on the road.

Anyone ever gone to a game in New Orleans? I like to go to one road game a year with my roommates from college. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about it, though I have noticed the guys that are like us seem to rave about it. Have done the AFC North, Denver and Washington already. That leaves Philly, Vegas, NO, and Jacksonville.

100% right on the first part. Lots of dangerous areas. I was at a conference there in 2023, and spent one night playing poker at a casino. A lot of locals talking about how bad the city has gotten the last few years. Plus the streets are just filthy. Not my favorite city, for sure...

Those last 6 games are a killer stretch. 4 road games (3 divisional and MNF) plus home games vs. KC and Miami. Tough.

Chucking the schedule - first five games should be 4-1, (maybe 5-0?)
middle 6 games are 4 at home (3 divisional and chargers) should be 4-2 or 5-1
Last 6 games very tough, could be 2-4 (maybe 3-3?)

If I had to guess, 11-6. Of course, assuming #4 plays the entire year and is 75% as good as he was in 2020. The rest of the roster is loaded.

I thought this going into the 2008 season. I'd be willing to bet that they miss the playoffs all together this season. The fact that they loaded up the Browns schedule while simultaneously giving Kansas City a cake walk tells me that the league wants it's darlings to win. They also really don't want Watson to have success. Call me a conspiracy theorist but why would they? He really is a bad mark on the league with the baggage as well as the contract precedent that was set with him. The best thing for the rest of the league is for Watson and the Browns to fail miserably so that the contract they gave out looks like a huge mistake rather than a gamble that pays off.

And yet, most national publications don't list the Browns as getting screwed by the schedule, but do list the Chiefs:

So many conspiracy theories around sports. I hear it in all sports, all leagues. There is no grand plan conspiracy. Schedules are not rigged. Games are not rigged by the leagues or the refs. Any conspiracy that big would get leaked.

I completely disagree with your ‘NFL is screwing the Browns/Watson conspiracy theory’. Who each team plays home/away is based off of how you finished the prior year. The networks have some definite say in what games they prefer and when but who & where the Browns play has been locked in since the end of last season.

Also each team in the AFC North will have a stretch where they will play 3 games in a 19 day period so that evens out.

Agreed. Injuries wreck at least a handful of teams every year, and even without injuries the preseason power rankings rarely ever show anything other than where teams stood last year.

Will some predictions come true? Certainly. But I’ve learned that I would never bet on any of my predictions. Last years Browns team is a prime example.

All Watson really needs to do is return to his 2020 form in some way. Last years Browns showed for the first time since the team came back that they can consistently win games they had no business winning (examples: SF, @Indy, @bal, PIT, CHI). Those were 5 games the Browns arguably should have lost. But that's the beauty of the game, and the Browns have started winning those gauntlet games they've normally lost since 1999.

Playing in the AFC North is brutal. It's the toughest division in pro football. Watson doesn't even need to play like an MVP candidate, last year showed all that's needed is consistent QB play for this team to succeed.

Could it all go south really fast? Of course, it's the NFL and it's the Cleveland Browns. But if this team has an attitude like they had last year during those gauntlet games and can somehow extend it to the whole season, they're going to do pretty well.

Of course an individual ref may make bad calls and sometimes favor one player over another. But it is not a big orchestrated scheme by the NFL. You think the league would secretly favor one player with calls but then investigate him and embarrass him with that deflated balls scandal?
