CHL VB thread

Great win for Taylor's program last night - should carry some weight going into voting.

The coaches for R2 & R4 have a challenge on their hand on how they are going to rank these schools - may come down to league and public vs parochial alliances. Same thing in R2 outside SUA is #1 there.

Not sure what to think of the GMC - 2nd & 3rd "best" teams in that league lost to R4 teams this week and neither won a set. McNick absolutely destroyed Sycamore Monday.

Nothing personal against the GMC but outside of Mason I don't think it is a very good volleyball league. I would argue the ECC has surpassed the GMC as the top public league in SWOH.

D2 and D4 have the most depth in SWOH in regards to talent across the board. Both are loaded with the top private school programs and some public school programs. If you look at the rosters they all have a number of College D1 and D2 commits. For D1 it is going to be Seton or Mason from SWOH, I don't see anyone challenging either one of those schools. Seton is loaded with college D1 and D2 commits and Mason might not have as many commits but they pass the eye test. Several girls on the Mason team could play college but opting not to play.

Honestly, looking forward to the playoffs with all these new divisions. It will create a lot of excitement for the volleyball community.

Just looked at Taylor schedule, they don't even have a full compliment of matches this year. They are 2 matches short.
The match vs Fairfield was cancelled b/c that was during the time the campus was evacuated for the rail car leak.
Taylor had to cancel practice I believe that tues , and OH allowed them to use their gym on wednesday.

Talawanda canceled on Taylor the 1st week of the season , I am not sure as to why or if they tried to make up a date ?

Assuming Taylor wins out (which I think they should) that would be the first undefeated regular season in Cincy since when? Scanning the websites I saw MND 2012 as the last one. That'd be a historic achievement that they can hopefully carry into the postseason. I'd love to see them take out McNick or Bacon. Region 16 will be nuts

Given the tournament draw is this weekend this will probably be the top 10 seeds for D4. I struggle with Mcnicholas being #1. RB went to Mcnick and beat them on their home floor. To me that should give them the edge.

District 16 Division IV Poll - 10/4/2024
1. McNicholas - 108 (9)
2. Roger Bacon - 89 (1)
3. Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy - 74
4. Taylor - 68
5. Mercy McAuley - 64
6. Wyoming - 47
7. Batavia - 38
8. Indian Hill - 37
9. Gamble Montessori - 15
10. Bethel-Tate - 12

Madeira played them TOUGH today!

Taylor dropped the 3rd set 23-25 and I believe Madeira was leading the 2nd set 22-14 and Taylor came storming back to win!

Ita been said enough Taylor's schedule may have been set up for them to do this. But you just play who's on your schedule and take it 1 match at a time which coach Miller has them doing!

That's not a result that screams we are ready to compete for a D4 Regional Champioship.

A little comparison. Wyoming has 2 wins in 5 set over Madeira this season.
D4 teams McNick and Roger Bacon absolutely drilled Wyoming.
McNick 25-11, 25-15, 25-15
Roger Bacon 25-10, 25-6, 25-12

I bet teams go after Taylor in the bracket. They’ll likely be over seeded.

I’ve only seen Seton and UA in person this season. MND having struggles/injuries this year—or the rest of the league that good?
The league is that good. MND has played tight in local games but has beaten top teams from Cleveland, Columbus, and Toledo. The talent is there to beat anyone if they are playing loose and confident. Maxpreps has Seton, SUA, and UA in top 10 in state. MND has beaten #4, #6 twice, #16, and #18. MND sits at 21 with #13 McNick on deck Tuesday.

Thanks. Losses to Loveland early and then Fenwick last week had me wondering.

I know talent has spread out everywhere with girls volleyball. New division assignments will make the postseason interesting.

MND has a roster full of future college D1 players, they are just young and probably lack some on the court leadership.
This is right on the money but wouldn't want to play them as they could be dangerous if they start rolling. Same thing with MM. On the other hand, wouldn't be surprised if they go out on a whimper either. Both teams are just inconsistent.

Taylor will have a chance to prove who they are vs Roger Bacon. I just don't see Roger Bacon losing that match.
Taylor has the opportunity to make a statement and what a statement that would make as RB took down Gilmour over the weekend in a close match. From what I heard, Gilmour is loaded! OSU was there watching one of their girls.

Looking forward to watching D4 - talk about a gauntlet.

MM is the most intriguing to me. Defending state champs, incredibly difficult schedule, just haven’t won many games. Does that mean they are battle tested or they don’t know how to win with this group?

They really scare me. CHCA is gonna run into them in the second round again this year and I’m quite nervous. They’ve had an unbelievably hard schedule and have a senior-heavy core. I think that they’re an under the radar top team

and rightly so - since they McNick loss, they had SUA on the ropes, beat MND and played UA tough too! They definitely are not going to be scared of anyone!

I have no skin in the game :) - D4 is going to be a fun rider!

MM also has the block to give Barrick some troubles. MM will have to pass and defend though which has been the biggest reason for their inconsistent play.

Taylor hasn't seen a team with near the talent of Roger Bacon. Roger Bacon went 1-1 against two of the very best teams in Ohio on Saturday. Great scheduling to get these October opponents at the end of the season.

Roger Bacon and McNick are the class of D4 in Cincy.

Taylor finishes 20-0

IH played em tough.

Coach Miller played most of the seniors the entire match! Kudos to her for letting those girls finish their HS careers on senior night on the floor!

Great season for Taylor and Anderson! Both had incredible runs thru their respective conferences. Hope they can keep it up but the brackets for D2 & D4 are rough. Tough first round matchups for both

Anderson vs Loveland - interesting how #2 & 3 are playing right off the bat - is Loveland trying to avoid the GGCL as much as they can?

Taylor vs Roger Bacon

I do think Loveland was avoiding but that path is easiest to Regional final. The Loveland/Anderson winner will play a Dayton team then a Columbus team to get to the regional final. Thought SUA would have maybe taken that route instead of a potential 3rd match up with MND in the regional semis, although they did handle them in the regular season.

Taylor wins in 3 straight to remain unbeaten!

18-0
Awesome accomplishment that no one will ever be able to take away from them.

While it's not fair to this team, when they play Roger Bacon, it's bigger than Taylor v Roger Bacon. It's about volleyball respect ongoing for the CHL and Taylor. If the Yellow Jackets get smoked in 3, the school and the league will continue to be disrespected. If they can beat Roger Bacon, it will significantly enhance the perception of the league and the program for next season and beyond.

I wish them good luck.
