The Wyoming Cowboys won the CHL from 2010-2022

Last season the Yellow Jackets won the league for the 1st time since 2009!

This year the Jackets are off to a HOT start at 9-0 (yet to drop a game in any match they have played)

They have victories over Madeira (7-2) Ross (9-2) and New Richmond (8-3) (Ross and NR beat the Jackets last season)

Notable games left for the Jackets Madeira , Oak Hills , Fairfield

Taylor improves to 10-0
#4 in D4 in the state

Good to see Taylor is having a good season. D4 in SWOH is going to be one of those regions of whoever wins the Region is going to be truly battle tested. Right now if I had to rank the Top D4 Teams in SWOH it would be Roger Bacon, Mcnick, CHCA, and MMHS. At this point Taylor just hasn't played the same level of competition. Taylor doesn't even have any of these schools on their schedule. Taylor will have their opportunity in the playoffs.

very very true

But dont forget Taylor knocked NR out last year (who lost to CHCA in 5sets)
Taylors NON conf isnt horrible :

Ross : (who graduated a lot and is down this year overall)
western Brown : pretty good this year same league and NR
New Richmond: same as above
Harrison (graduated alot and is WAY down this Year)
Oak hills , FF and Colerain : 3-4-5 in the GMC

Taylor originally had Talawanda on the schedule but the match was cancelled/.

Historically Taylor has never scheduled any of those teams so i am not sure if the HC has connections or not in order to start now.
On paper taylor should be pretty good the next few years.

Great that Taylor is having a great couple of seasons and their future is bright but their schedule is no where near RB, MM, McNick, & CHCA - all of these schools play the other GGCL schools during the regular season. Unfortunately the GMC "aint what it used to be" & in the grand scheme of volleyball in the city, those schools don't crack the top 10. Hard to replicate that intense environment with that schedule

Good Luck the remainder of the season!

Taylor is having a historic season.
However, they haven't played a team that would be considered in the Top 16 teams in the area. I think it's very likely they enter the postseason 22-0, maybe 21-1. However, I don't think they will be able to defeat any of the top 4 teams mentioned above.

They have some good young talent. They need to work on increasing their schedule strength so they aren't seeing significantly better hitters, setters, and team defense in the postseason.

Ran into a Taylor parent yesterday who was spatting off about how their volleyball team isn't getting any respect. These people must live in caves without any internet service. It isn't hard to look at the schedules that Mcnick, Roger Bacon, and CHCA have played to understand they are the top 3 D4 programs in the area.

It’ll be interesting with those 3. Mcnick lost to Bacon. Bacon lost to CHCA. CHCA lost to mcnick. All 3 are way better than Taylor.

The challenge that Taylor has with scheduling better schools is they lack the track record of playing those schools and now they think they can compete, they are overlooked because they never have played these schools. Until they get a class like Kings last year &/or step up and beat one a RB, McNick etc, they will have difficulty scheduling the higher end volleyball schools. (note lost a ton of respect for Kings as they scheduled tougher last year then dropped everyone this year other than SUA)

One school I wouldn't want to play in the tourney is MM. Loads of tourney experience and have played everyone tough. They aren't backing down and have nothing to lose as all those girls already have a state championship under their belt.

No doubt MM will be a tough match for anyone. Their schedule is brutally tough. I just don't think they have the depth of the other three. Good week 8 or 9 days coming up: RB plays Seton and Gilmour in a Tri Match on Saturday and then plays CHCA next Tuesday. CHCA plays Summit tomorrow. They just pounded Ryle who beat Mcnick in 3 and also beat the top team in KY. My guess is Ryle might of been missing a player. Mncick has MND next week. If I had to predict the final ranking before tournament draw I am going with 1. RB, 2. Mcnick, 3. CHCA, 4. Taylor, 5. MM, 6. Wyoming. That type of ranking means most teams will have to choose if they want RB or McNick. Personally I think more teams will opt to play on the McNick side as RB has more big weapons and I want to see how we McNick plays in a neutral gym

A lot will be determined on 10/8 - CHCA plays RB & McNick plays MND. I would put MM fourth given their schedule and how well they have played against the GGCL teams - maybe not the depth but they have tourney experience and will not back down. Unfortunately I would put Taylor 5th - great season they have put together and they can only control who they play against but just not any marquee wins - hopefully they can re-schedule Fairfield - could be boosted with win against Oak Hills this week.

R4 & R2 should be fun to watch!

Correct. Its no different than other sports. Some "top level" D2/D3 teams who have good classes come through most likely want try and bolster their schedule for such classes but with out an "in" or relationship with those top level programs I am sure make it tough to do so since you only have so many non-league contests.

Obviously all programs go through ups and downs!

Talawanda/Harrison were a combined 38-10 last season (Harrison lost to MND in post season)
New Richmond 18-5 (lost to Taylor in the post season)

The atmosphere for the Taylor/Wyoming match up last night was pretty cool! Regardless of whom they draw in the post season should be exciting

Also we are talking the top 4 teams above them the kicker is all 4 are private!

That has been the story of volleyball in Cincinnati since Mercy won state in 1977

All 4 are private because their girls start playing competitive volleyball in 3rd grade.

If anyone from the CHL wants 'respect' in girls VB, they'll have to earn it in the post season. It was true for Wyoming who dominated small school public programs for almost a decade, but could never get past the Catholic schools. If Taylor wants that level of respect, they'll need to knock off a Roger Bacon, MM, Micknick type of school.

You are probably right. D4 teams draw this week so the RB/CHCA game next is probably more about bragging rights. Whoever wins the D4 Region in SWOH will have been battle tested. For the money I think D2 and D4 are the most competitive Divisions in volleyball across the State this season. Ursuline is D3 and I can't imagine anyone is going to even give them a challenge until the State Finals.

Agree 100 percent. We all know the private schools attract the top volleyball talent in SWOH. It is really hard for the public schools to keep their own. First and foremost if any public school wants to keep their best players and develop the program they have to hire a top notch coach. Kings got it done in big part because they have one of the best coaches in the State and she invest a lot of time and effort in their youth program.

Hey im a taylor supporter and i Agree 100%

It is nice to see a changing of the guard every once in awhile in the league!

It's also for the MVC title. Apologies for hijacking the CHL thread but there just isn't enough MVC discussion anywhere. I think because there are 3 district brackets in the South it'll be a big deal who gets the #3 seed vs the #4 seed, whether it be CHCA or Taylor

All good haha I like hearing others perspective on things!!! I'm a Taylor alum and huge athletic supporter but very realistic as well

Max Preps Computer Rankings Cincy Top 15 is below. #8 Taylor beat #15 Oak Hills. Taylor's strength of schedule is so much lower than every other team though. I think people would be surprised with the talent level on Taylor. I'd probably have them in the 12-15 range. The win over Oak Hills does not shock me at all.

In my opinion, Taylor needs to start reaching out to the better teams in Cincy to schedule them and better prepare them for the tournament. They'll get some bites. Unless, they are just trying to stack wins.

Sweeping Oak Hills is a solid victory for Taylor. I looked at their schedule and they haven't even dropped a set all season long. There is something to be said for sweeping every opponent. Their best two victories are probably Wyoming and Oak Hills. Teams better not overlook them.
