1. Heading into the 2023 season, describe your outlook for the season based on what you have
returning and what you've seen out of your newcomer early in the preseason. We return the very core
of our 2022 State Championship team. Seniors Jake Barker, Hunter Greco, Brandon Fatur, Nolan
Kirsh, Heath Fetchik, and Ethan Faber will lead the team. Other returning starters include juniors Leo
Colombi, Will Francis, and Sophomore Stone Fawcett. With so many returning, the competition to get
into the line-up has been great. Juniors Logan Gunnoe, Austin Leszinski, and Amir Henry are
expected to make contributions this year.
Overall, looking at what you return from 2022 and what you've added to the varsity squad,
what are your expectations for the 2023 season? This year we expect to be a top contender in
conference play. We have a very competitive Division I schedule to prepare for a strong run in the
2023 state tournament.
What are the biggest challenges you face this spring and how will you overcome them? Our
biggest challenge will be keeping arms healthy. With such a competitive schedule, it will be
paramount to get some of the younger guys experience. Even though we are returning several
starters, this year’s team must find their own identity as new seniors step into leadership roles.
What are your team strengths and why? Our strength is in our senior class and our ability to hit the
ball. We will return a line-up that will hit 1 through 9.
What must happen in order for your team to be successful this season? We will be successful if
our pitching staff comes together. Right now Nolan Kirsh has proven he is our number one pitcher
and Brandon Fatur has proven experience as both a starter and reliever. The question we still need to
answer is who will step up and earn those other pitching assignments.

Catcher: Heath Fetchik - Sr - Seton Hill - BA .293, 9 DBL, 23 RBI - Heath is a three year letterman and will be
expected to lead the team. One of the top catchers in NE Ohio, we expect him to control the running game and
have a great year at the plate driving in runs
First Base: Jake Barker - Sr - BA .343, 10 DBL, 2 TPL, 34 RBI - uncommitted - We expect Jake to do damage
at the plate. Jake was one of our RBI leaders in 2022 and we expect him to produce even more in his senior
season. Jake has amazing bat speed and exit velocity.
Second Base: Will Francis - Jr - BA .345, 3 DBL, 10 RBI - Will is our most consistent player. He will continue
his duties as leadoff hitter for us this year and will be the foundation of our middle infield. Will Francis is a
competitor and sets the tone for the Hilltoppers.
Shortstop: Hunter Greco - Sr - Hiram - BA .222 - Hunter did not hit for us last year as he had wrist problems.
We expect him to step up as a senior and contribute at the plate as well as locking down the middle infield with
Third Base: Stone Fawcett - S0 - BA .311, 4 DBL, 1 TPL,21 RBI - We expect big things from Stone Fawcett
this year. As a freshman he was a major contributor on the state team. He has a smooth swing with plenty of
power. He can hit for average and for power. This is a player to watch as he will most likely see time in multiple
Left Field: Leo Colombi - Jr - BA .286, 7 DBL, 1 TPL, 1 HR, 21 RBI - Miami U of Ohio/football - We expect Leo
to utilize his speed on both offense and defense. With 6 D-I football offers on the table, Leo will provide a
strong bat and arm in the Topper lineup. Leo has recently committed to Miami University (Ohio) to play football.
Center Field: Ethan Faber - Sr - BA .347, 1 DBL, 9 RBI - Ethan is our second leadoff man and helps to set the
offensive table for our big hitters. We expect him to lock down centerfield offensively and once again make it a
"no fly zone."
Right Field: Logan Gunnoe - Jr - Logan had one bat last season and has worked very hard for the chance to
break into our lineup. This young man makes solid contact and will be a great addition to our offense.
Designated Hitter/Player: Nolan Kirsh -Sr - Mercyhurst - BA .304, 7 DBL, 1 TPL, 22 RBI - Nolan will be
expected to be our ace on the mound. However, he will also be expected to play the field or DH when
necessary as his bat is irreplaceable in our lineup. Nolan was a pivotal piece of our state run last year and we
expect him to be a major contributor again this year!
Other players to note: Several juniors will be joining the Topper varsity squad this year. Charlie
Clark, Tyler Gideon, and Ben Petrella offer some versatility defensively while bringing strength to the
plate. We will look to Joseph Payne and Vinny Colombi to be a threat on the bases and to cover
some ground in the outfield with their speed.
Juniors Mason Wolf and Austin Leszynski bring a bit of pitching experience with them to this year's
team. Both righties saw some time toward the end of the 2022 regular season. Juniors Amir Henry
and Daniel Joaquin are both entering their first varsity season and will be expected to contribute
immediately on the mound. Finally, we are looking at sophomore Tyler Noerr to make strides this
year. As a young righty, he brings a bit of velocity that will help us throughout the season.
