Cavs 2023-24

The Association is a make and miss league…all you old heads sitting in your lazy boys in slacks you bought at Costco preaching defense are dead wrong…who won the title? The Celts who jacked more 3’s than everyone…and traded away defense oriented players (Smart) for shooting and depth…are we shooting for a title? Or just a playoff berth and “uno-dos audios”…The Celts did play good defense but…scored the ball.

Holiday and White are all-defense guys that shoot it very well.

Holiday was a huge upgrade over Smart. No DPOY awards, but a 6x all-defense guy and 2x all-star.

Honestly the above post is kind of weird because the Celtics got better defensively while also adding more shooting. They had by far the best defensive backcourt in the NBA this year.

Not saying the Celts weren’t good on defense…so were our Cavs at least on paper…they got a title from expanding their offense, spacing and shooting…Porzingis and Holiday…the emergence of White on offense. If we are serious about chasing a title that is the attitude…spacing and shooting. When shots don’t fall you lose badly like the C’s in game 4…but stay the course. We have now watched 2 ways to win…shooting (Celtics…Warriors) or a dominating big…(Bucks, Nuggets)…which direction should we go? Right now we are lost in the middle…

The Celtics were the 1 or 2 defense in a number of metrics. Defense still wins championships.

In terms of adding shooting/spacing, Cameron Johnson IMO is the name I’d keep an eye on in the trade market. 6’8 combo forward, 39% career 3pt shooter.

Nets seem to be in total rebuild mode after moving Bridges, and they owe Johnson about $70 million over the next three years as a higher end role player. Would have to think he is very much available and will be moved, with the question being if the Cavs have the right pieces to swing a deal.

Would imagine the Nets would want the same type of assets that made the Bridges deal possible - heavy draft capital and expiring contracts. Levert semi-checks the expiring contracts portion. Cavs aren't exactly flush with future 1st rounders.

Correct. Cavs probably can only check the salary box with LeVert + either Dean Wade (two years, partial guarantee 2nd year) or either a pair of cheap expiring contracts with Ty Jerome and Sam Merrill.

I’d assume Brooklyn will want a pair of 1sts and I don’t see how Cleveland can make that happen with what they’ve previously traded. Best they can probably do is either player deal above plus a pair of 2nds. Expiring LeVert with a decent season probably gets Brooklyn a late 2025 first at the deadline.

So, does Garland's representation ask for a trade now? Rich Paul made it clear, more than once, that if Spider signed a long-term deal that he would seek a trade for his client.

Don’t see there being much if any of a market for him with the moves other teams have made. The Spurs and the Pelicans seemed to be trendy rumor destinations and both have addressed their PG needs.

Think they will be running it back with their 4 main guys barring Allen being traded for a wing, but I can’t see there being a wing to trade for unless it’s Ingram and they’d have to pay Ingram.

JA probably has one of the best contracts in the NBA for his position for the next two years and should have a lot of value this summer…probably will be the most inquired about Cav. His $20 million salary looks like a steal after Hartenstein just signed with the Thunder for about $29 million a year.

Right?

I saw Hartenstein's contract and could not believe it. NBA contracts are crazy. Hartenstein's NFL equivalent would be a backup tight end. Decent player, but $29 million???

That Hartenstein contract is wild.

Not many teams have cap space, but for the few that do it has me concerned Okoro will get an absurd offer due to the lack of quality free agents available.

Based on what Mitchell posted on Instagram yesterday, it sounds like he was just as frustrated and annoyed at all the people convinced he was leaving Cleveland.
The national media ( concentrated in NYC) could not believe that he would choose to play in a "hick flyover" city. Being from NY, he was, of course, going to join the Knicks. But, with Brunson becoming a star, Mitchell is unnecessary for them. Still, the Stephen A's and Greenbergs of the world pounded on his coming to New York for months.

NBA media is the worst of any major sports league. They openly front run for every star to go to the major markets that are the cities that they personally want to visit while working, and they can’t fathom anyone ever wanting to play in Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, OKC, etc.

Bunch of clowns that for months pounded Mitchell to the Knicks or other major market destinations with zero actual sources because it’s what they personally wanted.
