Many of the teams that make college football entertaining on a weekly basis — Notre Dame, Texas, LSU, Alabama — are on a bye today. I ask for little from the Big Ten conference and trust it even less, but its two top games better deliver today before we all go back to relying on the SEC and Notre Dame to carry the day next week.

It’s really unfortunate that Penn State is going to take up a playoff spot. They are not good and filled with too many slow Ohio/midwest players

Was going to say DC but remembered OSU’s defense really took a positive turn once Ash was named co-DC.
Fickell was an awful DC. I remember the awful gameplan he had against Alabama in the semifinal game when he was coach at Cincinnati and I thought to myself that he should NEVER coach in the Big Ten. Wisconsin made a terrible mistake.

Surprised Minnesota beat Illinois. USC is a joke yet still beat a lordly SEC team. Indiana not ranked in the top 10 is ridiculous
Indiana right now looks to be right there with Oregon. They look like a legit top 8 team and maybe top 5. They have the best QB in the conference and play aggressive fundamentally sound defense.

Very impressed with Cignetti so far. Indiana IMO looks like the best coached team in the conference, and is certainly getting more out of what they’re working with in terms of their roster than anybody else.

Not saying they are not but IU toughest competition to date has been Washington. Play SCUM this week and OSU in 3 weeks. Missed MInny, Iowa, PSU, USC (struggling), Illini., Wisky. IU has played one of the top 8 teams in the BIG standings: Washington. Very favorable scheduling.

Frankly, I’m hoping WVU fires Neal Brown this offseason and tries to get Cignetti to come home and he never leaves.

Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin stink too, so Indiana would probably treat them like fresh blood at a Diddy party.

The only teams in the conference worth a damn are Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana and USC.

Indiana’s sudden meteoric rise with a lackluster roster highlights how awful most of the Big Ten is.

Just for discussion, the curious case of undefeated Indiana.

Some team stat rank comparisons:

Total Offense: Indiana #8 Ohio State #14
Total Defense: Ohio State #2 Indiana # 3
Strength of Schedule: Indiana #22 Ohio State #49
Poll Rank: Ohio State #3 Indiana #8

Are the Hoosiers being disrespected?

LOL Minny and SCUM both beat USC and USC is 2-5 in the BIG. It will be absolutely hilarious if a bottom feeding BIG team (USC) beats ND.

That must be a strange SOS metric being used, given that OSU has played 2 teams in the top 10. IU hasn't played a single ranked team.

All of these make sense except the poll rank. The polls are nothing more than opinion, and it's largely slanted to the big money programs. Penn State and Ohio State were both going to be ranked high because they played each other last weekend. Same with Oregon/ Ohio State a month ago. The fallacy in this is that when a team loses, you can't drop them very far. Indiana was picked to finish 17th in the big ten this year. Think about that for a minute. Most of the big ten media felt IU was going to be the same 2-3 win team like in the past. Now there was no reason to think they'd be where they are at now, but this is why there should not be any rankings until the first 5-6 games are completed.

From another thread...

HOT TAKE: Michigan better than Penn State

Why not? What would PSUs record be with Michigan’s schedule…they are very identical teams.

I've said this before, but imagine being in a coma in July and just waking up today and seeing that Indiana (football) is in the top 10???? Maybe the best college football story in 10 years.
