2014- 2015, Graham had a returning state 3rd placer( Mario Kastl) not make it because he couldn't break the line up. @138/145, he was sandwiched by Ryan Thomas and Brent Moore.

Slightly out of the scope of the question, but ...
Jake Newhouse (Mass Perry) was a Fargo AA before ever cracking the starting lineup; when he did, he finished 2nd (2014) and 1st (2015).
Noah Baughman (Wadsworth) was in a terribly difficult district in 2013 and could not get out. He then watched several guys he had beaten during the season place in the state tourney.
Graham had a kid about 10 or so years ago who started only his senior year, and won (sorry, don't remember the specifics). Surely would have contended for high placement in prior years had he been able to crack the lineup. (At Graham, maybe this happens often!)

Returning state champ Wil Bolenz didnt make it out of Garfield Hghts in 2018. 220 weight class

1998: Steve Coljohn (Independence) failed to make it out of sectionals after finishing as a state runner-up the year before.

We’re any of the 7 close?

I'll go look but i think all of them were respectable. The state final being the best maybe.

I know they wrestled 4 straights weeks starting with league final.

Also, I'd like to add. I believe Tucker went to live with his dad in California his junior year and either won state out there or got 2nd.

Update:
2010 Tucker actually went 34-6. All 6 loses to Felipi.
State final was 7-1
District final was 3-2.
Couldn't find sectional.

I know in the finals Tucker hit a sweet Miron taught firemans but didnt get points as Felipi did what Felipi do.

hahahahahahaha that is awesome! Harry did great in that fight btw! Maybe outside sweep single on that troll. Or power half when on top. Def do not tie up.
Harry did a lot of backing out though. The troll kept the pressure on the whole match and if they were in a regulation circle HP may have been stalled out. Refs from the UK are notorious for not calling it though so it played right into Harry's game plan.

Excellent take on the match and British refs. I will add HP hesitation (lets call it that rather than just backing up) may be in part to him being a first year and not much experience with trolls. Also, had wrestling been sanctioned for girls at that time in England perhaps Hermione could hav helped out a bit more.

I coached this kid Josh Baitt. He never qualified for state but in my head is the best wrestler I've never seen qualify at all.

Semi slide two years in a row at the alliance district... with some rough calls two years in a row in those go to matches...

His junior year I think he had beaten 5 state qualifiers throughout the year... senior year similar story. He always struggled coming back after those losses in the semis...

Was he in that killer 126 weight class at Alliance with Kostandaras or was that his brother?

After placing 3rd at State in 2012 Walsh's Mike Kostandaras placed 5th in an absolutely loaded D2 Alliance 126 pound District, and the next year he won a D1 State championship..
His brother Jon was a 3 time state alternate for Revere. I believe his senior year, he was a sectional champ and the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th placers at his sectional all qualified for state.

Exactly my point. You cannot be considered a great wrestler if you cant handle pressure. This isnt golf.
Ben Jordan was a three time state champ for Graham who later became an All American for U of Wisconsin. The first half of his Freshman season at Graham he wasn't even the starter, after he lost his wrestle off. Would he be considered a great wrestler in your opinion?

Bonus points if anyone can name the wrestler who beat Ben Jordan in wrestle offs at Graham.
