I don't know if it is fair or not, but the same thing used to happen a few years back when the finals were held at Ashland. Just about all of the north central ohio teams games were held there for their regionals and districts also I believe. With all of the diamonds around, I agree with you, though. Why can't they save Firestone for the state finals for everybody. Or better yet, why don't they use the Buckeyes complex beside the Schott and hold the finals weekend there.
its hard to believe that they cannot find some high school fields up there that these games can be played on. just doesn't seem fair that the NE teams are able to play there at the same field that the state finals will be held. wouldn't this cross anyones mind as the did the scheduling. there are literally teams in the NE that will play every game from the sectionals right to the finals on the firestone field. are you telling me that nobody else see this as a slight advantage?
i do agree with your thought of holding the state finals in the middle of the state. if its at the buckeye field then so be it but having it in one remote corner of the state where all of the other regionals have to travel up to 4 hours seems stupid. i know that the ballpark is nice but theres more to it then that. a central locations makes too much sense i guess.
Why is it a problem? If the field works and fits the needs of parking, easy to get to, concessions and restrooms, etc. what is not fair?
stugots,
Can you list the schools that have played there from sectionals through regionals?
is really good; it will be tough for anyone to get by them

I heard it was a no-hitter thrown by the Poland pitcher with SEVENTEEN strikeouts. Amazing numbers. What kind of year did Fairless have going into this game?![]()
Their offense certainly disappeared in a HUGE game.![]()
maybe their offense disappeared because the poland pitcher made it disappear. looks like they are the team to beat for sure. from everything that i've heard the other teams should just save the travel costs and pronounce them the greatest high school team and pitcher of all time. this would save alot of time.
Poland is a good team and well coached with a great pitcher. They would be hard to beat this year in any division. They got a good draw in the state tournament not having to play both Greenville and Hebron Lakewood. I had never heard of Greenville until this year, but Hebron Lakewood always has competitive teams. If they can beat LaGrange Keystone 8-0 and then shut out Clyde 12-0 in regionals, they obviously have the bats and pitching/defense to compete with any team. Remember, all it takes is one run to win a game. This should be a great state final in Div II.

luck has alot to do with any teams tournament run but it looks ike poland has not really needed much luck. as far as lakewood and greenville goes they both hav pretty solid historys. lakewood has won the past two DIII state titles and they have been to the DIII regionals something like 7 of the past 8 years. this is their first year in DII and they know what it takes to get there. they can also play in any division. greenville won the DII state title in 2007 and they have posted 30 wins or more something like 4 or the past 5 seasons. during that time they have been both DI and DII and they regularly play on of the most demanding schedules of any team in the state. hard to beleive that if you have followed high school softball at all that you would not have heard of greenville. either of these teams would be a worthy opponent for the poland team (who btw i had never heard of until this year) and i'm sure it would be a great game. best of luck to all involved.
You must be new to High school softball if you have never heard of Greenville. Greenville was DI the last 3 years but did win the DII title in 2007 and have played some of the best teams in and out of the state with 5 straight district titles and are in the top of the polls every year.
I have not seen Poland play and there pitcher sounds like the real thing, but if we get Greenville and Poland in the finals I would not be afraid to hang my hat on Greenville's 2nd team All-American senior pitcher and coach Newlands defense.![]()
I might say the same about you since you have never heard of Poland. Let's hope for a Greenville/Poland final. The Poland pitcher is better than good, and she is not at full strength. I don't follow high school softball religiously across the state, but I am aware of most of the top schools year in and year out. Greenville obviously wasn't one of them.
well i don't follow either team per say but i do pay attention to most things softball in ohio. i did notice that looking at greenville's schedule they played some tough teams from your neck of the woods this season. they beat boardman, beat north royalton, lost to hoover just to name a few. I also see that they beat DI gahanna who just lost in the regional finals to grove city, as well as DI district champs northmont and pickerington central. so i think that they have a little game to them as well. how teams fair against eachother on a particular day has less to do with where a player is going (or trying out for) then it does about how each TEAM actually plays.
btw i'm sure that lakewood and john glenn will both have something to say about who gets in the final as well. lets not make it just about two teams until we know what two teams will actually be there.
since everyone on here follows high school softball then everyone has heard of Erin. and Poland has more than just Erin.
she has 4 no hitters in the 5 tournament games she has pitched this year. Tennesse (and others) were at the last game to see her. and she is not even a senior.
