2025 Cincinnati Reds Thread

What other teams went 30+ scoreless innings? The Reds problem is not a universal baseball problem. The fact is they only care about SP which right now is a bad investment considering most of them get hurt in today’s game
Since the Dodgers 8-0 start, they've lost 4 of their last 5, including back to back losses to the Nationals. I mean c'mon?

Actually last I checked, pitching dominates baseball. You'd better have good pitching and lots of it. Currently, there are 12 teams in major league baseball hitting .221 or less.

Good thing he doesn’t cost a lot….oh wait.

I'm pretty sure we did this last year. Candelario is historically a slow starter. A recent Reds legend was the same way in Joey Votto. Now his careers numbers don't blow us out of the water, but he does tend to play better later in the season.

Your version of “better” is still not that good and why is it useful for him to play “better” when the Reds are already out of contention and onto next year?

The Reds have demonstrated you can have fantastic starters and still lose games…by scoring 0 runs. They don’t need to have the best offense in baseball, but you can’t lose three 1-0 games in a row. Those are wins you’ve thrown away, which will matter in September.

Also there are 10 teams hitting .221 or worse (arbitrary), but it’s not a universal problem if 2/3rds of the league your competing in doesn’t have it.

My gosh the Reds pre and post game shows with Francona are so much better now than with David Bell. At least they are semi interesting.

I said his numbers don't blow you out of the water. I don't think they'll be out of contention just yet, give it at least a few more weeks. The Reds have played 7.4% of their 2025 schedule to date.

100% agree. This team needs to win close games, no doubt about that. Moreover, the mid point of team batting averages is .232 Half the teams in baseball is hitting above .232/ the other half above.

No, the numbers you posted said he hits a little bit in Sept. That doesn’t help a team out of it by the All Star break.

The Reds are in the bottom half. No teams making the playoffs will be in the lower half of offense. Fix it or it’s another meaningless October in Cincinnati.

You conveniently ignore how terrible he was the back half of last year. Slow starter? He had a deathly second half last year for the Reds. Another Krall swing and miss on a free agent. Much like Moose, Montas, Pagan, etc.

Nobody questioning pitching to Yaz in the 10th yesterday? Runner on 3rd. 1 out. Righty pitcher. Dangerous Lefty hitter. Righty on deck. Why on earth do you pitch to the lefty.

Tito has forgotten more baseball than I'll ever know, but you always walk the lefty and set up the double play in that situation, right? Seen it a million times. It does not mean the Reds would have won, but a very odd decision.

On the broadcast, Sadak says "How do you pitch to Yaztremski in this case?" and Brantley answers "I don't think you do". 10 seconds later, the HR is flying into the SF bay.

David Bell made us numb to questionable game management. We aren’t used to Tito yet.

Ok so yesterday was a gut punch, but you got 2/3 vs. the hottest team in baseball including back to back shutouts. I'd much rather see 6-7 that 5-8 but we can only ask so much.

Good to see us score some runs yesterday. Obviously the bats have to get things turned around.

I just don't see Nick Martinez as a long term starting pitcher. He's good for 3-5 innings. Do we consider him as a full time "opener" 2-3 days per week, in between Hunter/ Lodolo/ Singer? Our bullpen is well rested and hopefully will continue to be. I think Ashcraft, Pagan, Barlown, Barlow, Moll, Santillan are more high leverage guys who's going to get the ball in close games and Suter, Gibaut, Rogers are more for the games we're out of.

Benson, just not a major league player. If you bring Marte up, he needs to play most days.

16 K's yesterday.

CES, Benson and Steer combine for 0-13.

You played about 2 1/2 good games in SF. Now you have the Pirates at home and you miss Paul Skenes and Mitch Keller.

Some updates from the skipper today...

Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona spoke with reporters before Friday night's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and provided some key injury updates.

Alexis Diaz will continue his rehab appearance and pitch in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday for the Louisville Bats.

Tyler Stephenson continues to progress and has started baseball activities.

Austin Hays was sent to Triple-A Louisville for his rehab assignment and will play 5-7 innings on Friday, DH on Saturday, and play outfield on Sunday.

Spencer Steer continues to ramp up his throwing program and is making good progress.

Matt McLain is confident that he will be ready to come off of the injured list on Tuesday. If that is the case, he will not need to go on a rehab assignment.

Hunter Green for Cy Young.
Dude is killin it. He looks great! And Tito will push him. None of this 5 inning 80 pitch crap anymore. Just having two guys who go 6-7-8 innings a start helps the bullpen workload so much.
Now I'm not going nuts yet. We swept the Pirates and we missed their best two pitchers. I really hope our bats come to life at some point. We really need an injection of life into the lineup. Hopefully McLain and Hays can do that. I feel Steer is going to the DL. There is something wrong with him.

Alot of player movement expected today for the Reds. Yesterday, Sam Moll was placed in the IL with a shoulder impingement. To me Moll has been largely a disappointment for the team. He had a few glimpses last season, but first of all he rarely pitches. This season only 3 games, 2 innings. Last year he had 48 appearances, but only 37 innings.

Anticipated for today is the returns of Austin Hays and Matt McLain. Not sure who's going to get sent out, and maybe they just fill Moll's spot with a position player. As posted on here before, with the longer starts, we've not used some guys in the bullpen much at all. I wonder if Steer goes to the DL, or CES gets sent down. I think Marte has shown something. With guys like Marte, CES, McLain, guys like that, they need to play everyday weather it's in Cincy or Louisville. Guys like Espinal and Lux are older players and are used to be spot players.

Good pitching matchup tonight with the Mariners with Nick Lodolo vs. Luis Castillo.

Moll was rock solid after the trade in 2023 and was pretty good last year, too. He’s barely pitched this year and is probably legit hurt.

I’m not sure why he would be considered a disappointment. It’s not like they were trading for Billy Wagner.

Sandak & Larkin in the booth are pathetic. Be professional, stop being sunshine pumpers, you dumb c**ts. Jesus Christ.
