2024 Northern Lakes League....both divisions

Week one finals...
Toledo CC 54, Findlay 21
Tiffin Columbian 27, Fremont Ross 11
Perrysburg 28, Toledo St. Francis 21
Toledo Whitmer 42, Dublin Coffman 14
Anthony Wayne 35, Hilliard Darby 13
Otsego 41, Bowling Green 7
Napoleon 35, Defiance 34(OT)
Sylvania Southview 42, Sylvania Northview 0(NLL crossover)
Oregon Clay 38, Sandusky 21

Haven't been able to locate the Springfield-Maumee score
Maumee 41
Springfield 8

Ross has way too many guys starting both ways, it's no wonder why they run out of gas in the 2nd half. Also something that should be brought to attention is the fact that Long has had 3 different OC's AND DC's in the past 3 seasons. It's gotten to the point where Chad himself is calling the plays this year. Insert dumpster fire emoji :

Rough start for the new era in BG… although the new era in Otsego looks very promising!

BG appears to be terrible. Otsego is usually pretty good but from everything I read, they were supposed to have somewhat of a down year this year and they absolutely hammered BG. Can BG win a game? Eh… never mind they have Fostoria, Springfield, Northview and Woodward on the schedule. They will probably somehow end up being 500.

Whitmer is going to be tough to beat. I don't see Findlay, Perrysburg, or Anthony Wayne coming within two scores.

Any word on Montgomery's injury???
From this mornings Findlay Courier...

Findlay may have lost more than just a game.
With Findlay driving on its first possession, senior quarterback Ryan Montgomery scrambled to his left and dove for a first down. He flipped through the air, landed awkwardly and hobbled to the sideline.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound senior, Findlay High’s career leader in passing yards (7,584) and TD passes (89) who has signed a letter of intent to play for Georgia, did not return to the game.
The exact area and extant of the injury was unknown after the game.
“We don’t want to jump ahead to anything yet. We’ll just have to see,” said Findlay High coach Stefan Adams.

In his now nine seasons at Ross, Chad Long has coached the Little Giants to a 37-49 record after last nights loss. He's had exactly one "good" season. In the "old days" he would have been gone already. Apparently mediocrity is now acceptable to the AD.

I did mention he and AD are tight

Otsego should be .500 this year -- better than that exceeds reasonable expectations. Having said that, they have remarkable coaching talent and experience.

I think you’re both right but everything I’ve seen indicates BG may be terrible as well

Otsego may honestly win the league. That coaching combined with lots of great young talent now getting to the varsity level

I’d pump the breaks a bit, Oak Harbor, Maumee and Eastwood are all likely to be a challenge and the Knights must get through Tinora and Liberty Center the next two weeks. Their final 5 games will be a gauntlet after starting NBC play with Fostoria and Rossford.

Anthony Wayne 1-0
Perrysburg 1-0
Toledo Whitmer 1-0
Napoleon 1-0
Oregon Clay 1-0
Sylvania Southview 1-0
Findlay 0-1
Fremont Ross 0-1
Springfield 0-1
Sylvania Northview 0-1
Bowling Green 0-1

Week two games....
Toledo Whitmer (1-0) @ Toledo Central Catholic (1-0)
Perrysburg (1-0) vs. Marysville (0-1)
Findlay (0-1) vs. Lima Senior (1-0)
Anthony Wayne (1-0) @ Toledo St. Johns (0-1)
Oregon Clay (1-0) vs, Sylvania Northview (0-1)...NLL Crossover
Sylvania Southview (1-0) vs. Toledo Waite (0-1)
Fremont Ross (0-1) vs. Sandusky (0-1)...the 119th meeting since 1895
Springfield (0-1) @ Toledo Rogers (0-1)
Bowling Green (0-1) vs. Fostoria (0-1)
Napoleon (1-0) @ Liberty Center (1-0)

They are an absolute darkhorse in that conference. I said may, not will

41-8 Maumee over Springfield
This is very bad for the future of the NLL in my opinion. This would be the equivalent of a Big 10 school losing to a middle of the pack MAC team by 33. Northview seems a little more with it, but those two are going to get taken to the butcher shop this season. I give it 2 years until a breakaway by the smaller 7 occurs

“Bad for the NLL” is Maumee beating Perrysburg or AW or heaven forbid, Whitmer. Not walloping a basement team that probably couldn’t beat any of the top 3 in the Cardinal.

Maumee is on an upward slope and Springfield (and to a lesser extent, Northview) will have trouble being relevant until they find themselves in the Cardinal.

This will shock some of you but less than a decade ago Maumee was able to beat Perrysburg and Anthony Wayne in football. The best teams in the NBC, and I think Maumee will be right there this year, routinely field teams that could compete with even the best in the NLL most years. Over the last 7 years I’d say Eastwood 2017, Genoa 2018, Oak Harbor 2019 (not NBC at the time), Otsego 2020/2021, Elmwood 2022 and Oak Harbor 2023 would’ve all faired alright against the best the NLL had to offer those years, the depth of the conference isn’t close though.

I meant no disrespect in what I said. It's been discussed that the pieces were there for Maumee to suceed and that they just needed someone to put those pieces together. Looking at what Karchner has done in a short span of time is exciting, and I fully believe a run to an NBC title may be in the cards this year for the Panthers.

I know I replied to your post but I guess I probably should’ve replied to Smurf calling the NBC the “MAC” compared to the NLL. I think Karchner has done a good job but I also think the Panthers were heading in a much better direction no matter who took over. This group of classes from last years seniors down to this years sophomores were going to be much improved from the previous 5 or so years regardless. This team and last years are much more similar to the level of play Maumee had pretty much every year before 2018.

You guys missed my point. If the two smallest schools get clocked by another picked to finish middle of the pack in the NBC, those games against Perrysburg, AW, Findlay and Whitmer will be absurd mismatches. Wouldn't shock me to see more realignment in the cards to avoid being Rossford 3.0

Ryan Montgomery is out for the season with an ACL injury that will require surgery. Really unfortunate news.
And anyone asking for the source… It’s actually him posting it on his own Twitter page. Awful news for the kid. Didn’t even make it through one series of his first game of the senior season.

That part I think a lot of us would agree with, Northview and Clay are likely to go a combined 1-9 in Buckeye play in 2025-2026 after Springfield and Northview do the same these first 2 years and we’ll see what happens then. I doubt teams will keep volunteering to play up when theirs only 5 Cardinal division teams.
Maumee beating up a team like Springfield would have been just another game a few years ago, that’s why calling it a “MAC over Big 10” win seemed like an odd slight on NBC teams.

Central-42 Whitmer-21
