I don't have pics of the Don, but I believe Jake/MapleCityFan said he had taken some.
Tough to get some good spics but they are definitely an improvement. So is the new away side concession and restrooms.

Who has scrimmaged who? AW vs Clay Thursday.

Where are the Fremont faithful? Keith? Any pics of the updated Don?
Perrysburg scrimmaged Ottawa Glandorf last Saturday morning. No idea how that went. Perrysburg scrimmages St. John's tonight in what I believe is a "game like" scrimmage with quarters, running clock, etc. I know that's what they did 2 years ago with Whitmer. Not sure about last year since Whitmer is in the league now. Maybe it was SJJ last year as well but I'm not sure.

Perrysburg will be interesting this year. No idea what to think. JOSH Takats (TJ's cousin) is back and should be better. But he doesn't have the likes of Gavin Fenneken to throw to (but does have Dominick Woods back). No idea who the RB will be unless Joe Seney does what Connor Walendzak did 2 years ago. He will be a force at LB this year that's for sure. Might be the best D player in the league and that includes Jemison at Whitmer. Seney is a STUD at LB. Not sure if he's playing RB though. And I don't know much about the rest of the team. They have the LT spot shored up with Gerken. The Bush kid will be solid on both OL and DL as well. Grey Swanson is good in the back of the Secondary. Other than that, not sure who's playing at the other important spots.

I was hoping to be able to report a little about Whitmer, and to see their stud players, when they scrimmaged at Avon on Thursday night, but I was unable to attend.

I can get behind your P-burg pick. The Frannies will take the L, but I think not too roughly on the chin.

I'm hoping with the amount of talent they have, the Panthers can finally get one over on one of the Columbus publics. I think they are poised for a fairly deep run this year, barring the fact they share a region with St. Ed.

I think Springfield is tough goings again. They don't return much and lost one of their big playmakers to SFS in Beal. Maumee I think will be a surprise to many in the NBC this year.

Thank you for validating my delusions that Napoleon has a chance at beating Defiance lol. I saw a lot of the former last year, but do the Bulldogs usually go for 2 point conversions or XP's more? That could be a deciding factor in any of Defiance's games this season, it certainly did last year.

Just listened to the Black Swamp Football podcast, they hinted towards Defiance’s QB being out with an injury. Expect Napoleon to win

His score prediction is crazy but remember Maumee only won by 7 last year at home vs Springfield, I think it’s a toss up. The level of play gap between the NLL and the NBC is a mile wide at the bottom of each conference, part of why Maumee went from 0-10 (0-7) to 5-5 (3-4). For the Panthers to get from 3 league wins to anything more than 5 will be very difficult.

I agree with this assessment. Except I would switch the Otsego and BG score.

Cardinal preview in The Blade today.

Numbers by each team and preseason rank.

Southview - 52 players 10-12, 19 seniors, 20 letter winners.
Napoleon - 58 players, 18 seniors, 26 letter winners.
Clay - 85 players, 30 seniors, 45 letter winners.
Fremont Ross - 58 players, 18 seniors, 19 letter winners.
Bowling Green - 53 players, 23 seniors, 18 letter winners.

One of these school's numbers does not look like the others.

Ridiculous in my opinion that we do not have some sort of relegation/promotion system. Southview and Napoleon should be swapped with Northview & Springfield as they were 1st and 2nd in the Cardinal division last season. Springfield was outscored 192-12 by the Big 4 last year and Northview was outscored 186-0 by them. Those programs at the moment have no business in the big division

Why should Southview and Napoleon swap out? Because of last year's finish? Napoleon should never be in the Buckeye division. What about numbers? Look at Clay's numbers in comparison. If Clay does not win the Cardinal with that kind of a numbers advantage (and 3 kids holding D-I offers) something is wrong. The way the league is set up there will always battle for being king of the Cardinal or bottom feeder of the Buckeye.

Not at all surprising, Clay’s been punching above their weight for over a decade. Their numbers were always great at the lower levels but nobody likes being beaten down every year, they don’t have that problem anymore so kids will keep playing.

I believe Springfield and Ross flip divisions next year, good news for the Blue Devils, bad news for Ross. Maybe they can convince Northview to leave the “Big 4” so they can avoid them too. This will always be a problem…it’s not going away, it’ll always be Whitmer, Findlay, Perrysburg, AW & whoever wants to get beaten up by bigger schools

Clay is the one switching divisions with Springfield next season

I really don't see that it matters; Ross already is playing Pburg, Whitmer, and Findlay

If you can’t see the difference between playing those 3, Northview and Anthony Wayne to finish the season and for any league honors/title and playing 3 of them in the first 5 weeks of the season in games that mean nothing I honestly can’t help you.
Clay is the one switching divisions with Springfield next season

Then that’s good for Ross and Springfield and bad for Clay…

I guess Sylvania will have to consolidate into 1 HS now…
Realistically I’m not sure how to make this league work for everyone. Whitmer is still huge, Perrysburg is closing the gap and then Findlay and Anthony Wayne (if they keep growing) are going to be clearly bigger than the others but not big enough to enjoy being with the top 2. There really isn’t a viable solution when such a small number of schools are so much bigger than anyone else within 2 hours.

The answer was always swapping Perrysburg and Anthony Wayne with Ross and Clay and keeping the NLL and TRAC together but appeasing Perrysburg and Anthony Wayne’s refusal to play with privates took precedence. Now Lima Sr plays in the TCL, we get random TCL vs NLL crossovers like SEC vs FCS in November and a school like NV becomes a coaches graveyard for FB. Ironically the only two good things that came of this for football are the competitive cardinal division and the top 4 in the buckeye battling it out…2 things that would’ve happened if they kept the NLL and TRAC together and swapped teams with the added competition of Central and SJJ in the TRAC and NV, Maumee and Springfield in the NLL. I shouldn’t complain though, Maumee was the real winner in all of this, although selfishly as a fan, playing NBC schools (while great in their own right) doesn’t feel like a win.

Current NLL
Whitmer 833
Perrysburg 681
Findlay 622
Anthony Wayne 515
Northview at 494
Clay 428
Southview 426
Springfield 404
Ross 393
Bowling Green 352
Napoleon 243

I’ll drop this now, I know the season is about to start and we’ve talked about league changes ad nauseam over the years.

To get the topic on football, my standings prediction.

Buckeye
Whitmer 5-0
Perrysburg 3-2
Anthony Wayne 3-2
Findlay 3-2
Springfield 1-4
Northview 0-5

Cardinal
Clay 4-0
Napoleon 3-1
Ross 2-2
SV 1-3
BG 0-4

I agree for the most part. Only difference I see is that someone will beat Whitmer. It will be one of the 3-2 teams, just not sure which one. Probably Findlay is the most likely if Montgomery has a huge game. Not sure what his weapons are like this year though.

Still not sure about Pburg or AW either. Pburg was losing 14-0 to SJJ at halftime of their scrimmage. Not sure how it ended. AW has Kinnee and the RB, but not sure what else.

Yeah that wouldn’t surprise me, I couldn’t decide who would be most likely to finish 2nd, I think Findlay and Perrysburg are more likely than Anthony Wayne though. Seems like the Generals haven’t had a lot of size on the lines over the last few years.

I think i may regret Southview at 4th in the cardinal but I expect 2-4 to be a very tight battle. Have a good feeling about Clay with Heintschel and a bad feeling about BG but the other 3 are tough for me to judge.

I couldn't blame you with that pick. How they do this season depends on how they can replace their offensive weapons from last year. If Clay has an OL that allows Heintschel more time than he had last year to throw the ball then they will do very well.

Honestly, with how huge Fremont's OL and DL are, I could see them pulling off some unexpected wins this season like they did with Clay last year.
