Hopefully there will be some free audio for some of the games. I realize you’ll have to pay for video. I am excited for the D5 and D6 finals in particular

Generally radio stations are offered the opportunity to carry the the state championship if they run certain advertisements during the game, it precludes stations from running their own local ads which is usually the barrier to more stations covering the games. I will look to see if any stations explicitly state they will carry games, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is not formally announced by most stations.

In addition to the broadcast fee? Do they get paid to run the mandated ads? The broadcast agreement (attached) says nothing about ads that must be run, only those which can't be run.

Think about it: there is no incentive for a station to broadcast anything without paid advertising.

For the radio broadcast for the state championship game, the state provides the audio and you must run the advertisments dictated by them, you cannot run your own, however there is a small fee if doing this. If a station also carries other select OHSAA programming then the fee is waived. (The station would need to carry all 7 state championship games, in addition to all the boys basketball state championship games, in addition to all the boys baseball state championship games for the fee to be waived).

Alternatively a radio station or audio streaming service can do their own call of the game but must pay a very large fee upfront, but they can run whatever ads they want in return.

It is generally the case that stations often only will carry the game for their local teams that are playing and have a block of ads run immediately before and after the programming block set aside for the game or have a local sponsor pick up the tab and pay the fee for the station to carry the game.

That's not consistent with the broadcast agreement.

That is what it is, that is why everyone just plays the feed provided by the OHSAA either for a small fee or free depending on if they carried the rest of the mandatory games. Let me see if I can find the relavent info for you.

so i just found out on the OHssa website.. can purchase each game for $10

Created in 2010, the OHSAA Radio Network provides broadcasts of selected OHSAA state tournament contests with all commercial slots already filled. The broadcasts are available either via Skyview Satellite or online from the OHSAA website (48K stereo broadband stream). The OHSAA selects veteran broadcasters and utilizes aplroximately three-quarters of the commercial time for its corporate partners and one-quarter of the time for OHSAA public service announcements. A network program log is created for each game. Radio stations are invited to opt into a full‐year affiliate plan, which waives all regional and state tournament rights fees in every sport, or specific affiliate plans per sport. Option 1 –
2023 School Year Affiliate Station’s regional and state tournament broadcasts rights fees are waived in every sport in exchange for the station agreeing to carry all network broadcasts from each of the following network offerings (football championships, boys basketball state championships, and the boys baseball state champipnships). Stations are also encouraged to utlize OHSAA public service announcements and promo spots before and after game broadcasts and/or during other programming. Option 2 – Sport‐Specific Affiliate Football Stations that will carry at least two state championship games from the network will have their broadcast rights fees reduced to a very minimal fee. Boys Basketball Stations that will carry at least ten boys basketball state tournament games from the network will have their boys basketball regional and state tournament broadcast rights fees waived. Boys Baseball Stations that will carry at least five baseball state tournament games from the network will have their baseball regional and state tournament broadcast rights fees waived.
...
Alternatively stations that wish to produce their own broadcasts for the Football Championships can do so for $625.
...

Sorry if it is hard to read, I copy and pasted it and it was originally in more of a chart presentation.

Not sure if they still have the deal, maybe someone can confirm but the Spectrum News App is free for a month when you first download it and the games are streamed on there.

It is free for the first month. I just downloaded it yesterday. I have no access to the games already recorded. I will see Thursdays if it lets me watch it live. Right now I just have live local news

But it is only supported on the iOS platform, correct? No Windows or Android support from what I can tell.

$16 for a ticket and $10 for parking. You could buy 3 games from the OHSAA website and never leave your couch for about the same money. For the casual fan almost a no brainer🤷‍♂️

The games aren't listed on my spectrum TV guide yet. Is Everyone sure it will be on spectrum channel 1. I can't watch tonight's game live so I want to DVR the game.

So the deal with stations using the OHSAA Network is that IF you agree to carry two of the network versions of the seven games you can have your playoff fees to cover the games in any other round live yourself voided.

IN doing so you agree to run a log of spots of the network during their broadcast of the games (for instance, WKKI in Celina is running tonight's game and Saturday afternoon's Liberty Center game in exchange for their fees being taken care of for the two they're doing live in Marion Local and Versailles of their own broadcast) BUT there are local avails in the network broadcasts for you to run your own spots as well so it's not like you're not getting anything out of it and just running a straight network feed for 2+ hours.
