Is Salem in Columbiana countyCouldn't agree more. Playing Salem does absolutely nothing for me either. Never felt like they were a part of the nbc or ebc. From the moment they joined, it always seemed like just a matter of time till they went back to their first love. I got no problem with them getting that Mahoning feeling back, even if it means the demise of the ebc. The league is in a death spin anyhow (as are so many other leagues).
So Salem, take your "blah" and your whining and crying and hit the bricks. I'll lose zero sleep here in lowly Carrollton
YesIs Salem in Columbiana county
either league has its advantages but it seems like the EBC makes pretty good sense geographically.
I think for Salem it’s more about the rivaliries they once had in the old MAC with the Youngstown area schoolseither league has its advantages but it seems like the EBC makes pretty good sense geographically.
On a side note , I thought Alliance was getting their own stadium?
This would be huge for Alliance of that actually were to happenFrom what Im hearing - Alliance is getting ready to start phase 2 of the stadium
I am also hearing AMS football field will be turfed and have a track around it. and a bigger field house
And the soccer field is being turfed

What rivalries did they have other than West Branch? I am not doubting it, I am just trying to wrap my arms around it. To me the EBC makes sense for all sports and all levels for Salem. It's not like dominate, they are usually a middle of the pack team in most sports.I think for Salem it’s more about the rivaliries they once had in the old MAC with the Youngstown area schools
East Liverpool who they play in every sport out of conference, and United who they play in everything but football are their two longest tenured matchups. In more recent history they seem to play Crestview a lot tooWhat rivalries did they have other than West Branch? I am not doubting it, I am just trying to wrap my arms around it. their longest drive is to Carrollton and that is less than 30 miles.
We're all aware that Salem is in Columbiana county, right?
14 miles to Alliance, 18 miles to Minerva, 28 miles to Carrollton. 40 miles to Hubbard, 25 miles to Niles, 22 miles to Poland, 25 miles to struthers,, lake view is 40 miles, girard is South Range is around 10 miles and Canfield is independent. There is no real advantage for Salem to leave the EBC to go and be average in most sports in the NE8 and probably have the same it not more travel. But I understand them looking since the ebc never replaced Louisville and now Canton South.True, but just about 1 mile from Mahoning County, and closer to Canfield, South Range etc. than Alliance, Minerva, or Carrollton etc..
You’re also going to get a bigger gate when playing SR/Struthers/Hubbard/Poland. All travel very well good or bad seasons. Salem usually wasn’t competing in football which drives in the most money, other then the couple toothman years. Now that most NE8 schools are smaller it’s making things more competitive14 miles to Alliance, 18 miles to Minerva, 28 miles to Carrollton. 40 miles to Hubbard, 25 miles to Niles, 22 miles to Poland, 25 miles to struthers,, lake view is 40 miles, girard is South Range is around 10 miles and Canfield is independent. I get why they would look elsewhere- the EBC is down 2 teams and haven't replaced them, it makes sense for Salem and west branch to be looking elsewhere but the EBC teams do travel well in every sport- Salem is probably the worst when they have average teams, west Branch always packs the placeYou’re also going to get a bigger gate when playing SR/Struthers/Hubbard/Poland. I think the difference is negligible between those NE8 teams and the EBCYou’re also going to get a bigger gate when playing SR/Struthers/Hubbard/Poland. All travel very well good or bad seasons. Alliance by a lotWho do you all got for this week?
Alliance vs. Norwalk
Salem vs CCC
West Branch vs Ridgewood
Minerva vs Sandy Valley
Carrollton vs Garaway
Marlington vs Chaney
It's really not a distance thing though when it comes to connection. The main issue would be that the Salem/Youngstown media don't cover schools like Carrollton, Minerva, etc and the CantonRep or Times Reporter isn't covering WB, Salem, etc.Carrollton - Salem had some great games the last few years.. Are Alliance, Marlington, Minerva and obviously WB all pretty close to Salem as far a distance? Carrollton is probably closer than some of those NE8 teams too. I don't know much about Salem but i would think the EBC makes sense as far as travel.
I'm excited to see what happens in the West Branch - Ridgewood game. My wife graduated from WB so we follow the Warriors and they obviously have a really good thing going. Having said that, I work at an IVC school so I am really familiar with Ridgewood and I can tell you these are the types of games that historically Ridgewood thrives in. The games where nobody gives them a chance are the ones they seem to play really, really well in. It's a program with a lot of pride and they will definitely be coming to play Friday night. I just don't think they have the offense to win this year.Who do you all got for this week?

That seems like a small thing but when kids don't know anything about the other team they are playing because they aren't really covered by the local media it really takes away a lot of connection.
I lived that first hand at my current school. Even though the schools in our current league aren't really much closer than many of the schools were in our old league the community and kids are much more connected to the new league because every school is covered by the same media.

This is a good point, Salem is covered by 570 WKBN, Tribune/ Vindy, and other local Y-Town media. A lot of Salem people go to YSU and work in Youngstown area. But, Salem doesn't seem to want to schedule many NE8, Canfield, Howland or other local schools in their OOC scheduleIt's really not a distance thing though when it comes to connection.
