2014 Winter Olympics

The last time someone tried to hold a "concert" or a demonstration or a strike without a permit and resisted authority.

This is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Example?

You could not do in America what they attempted to do there. This goes back to the origin of these attention hogs: if ANYONE, ANYWHERE except in some country you do not care for, decided to hold their impromptu demonstration in a church like these numbskulls did, you'd be all over it.

You actually could do it in America and the result wouldn't be some militia goons beating you. They weren't in a church, what were you watching? Why does it matter what their original act was? I don't really care about any country one way or another, I just know BS when I see it.

No Communism doesn't. Read a book or at least a definition.

Here's a link to the meaning of "Freedom of Expression" and guess what word you'll NOT see? "Communism." It's a total disconnect, you might as well argue that oranges restrict expression.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech

 Did you miss the part of the definition even you posted about establishing "social order?"

As for me, I expressed no such view on MY ideals, do you read what you expect and want to see or what was actually written? I stated how THEY draw the line and anyhow, those kittys were hardly beaten into silence.

The effects of that potato whip are not even what a stun gun would do. If they had simply followed directions from the authority, who were doing what they were charged to do, there'd been no incident and no publicity.

You got no case here. You're making up facts to fit what you wanted to say happened. They got exactly the attention they wanted. What's your complaint?

You're response to the incident was "good." Guess that didn't show how you felt about it. You seemed to express your opinion pretty clearly. And why did they stop what they were doing? Was it because they were asked nicely or was force used? They probably did get the response they wanted, but it was also the response they knew they'd get. The fact that they may indeed be attention whores doesn't negate the fact that they live in a society that has issues.

Do any of you know that P**** Riot, aka Kitty Riot here, is not a punk rock band, but a human rights group protesting Putin's suppression of rights in Russia and that they spent hard time in Siberia for their protests? In many parts of the world they are considered heroes. Putin released them only because of the upcoming Solshi events and once the Olympics are over they are facing the gulag in Siberia again.

MAYBE I'm wrong on their intent. The impression I've taken from their actions is that they're just one another group forcing their will on others.

You cannot do here, what they did there.

NEWSFLASH: The government of Russia, which OUR government, the UNITED STATES acknowledges is:
The 1993 constitution declares Russia a democratic, federative, law-based state with a republican form of government. State power is divided among the legislative, executive, and judicial branches. Diversity of ideologies and religions is sanctioned, and a state or compulsory ideology may not be adopted.

THAT boy'os means we support the right of the government of the people to disperse illegal assemblies, whether we agree with their ideologies or not.

1) Example (of police using "guns" in America to disperse)?

2) You actually could do it in America and the result wouldn't be some militia goons beating you. They weren't in a church, what were you watching? Why does it matter what their original act was? I don't really care about any country one way or another, I just know BS when I see it.

3) Did you miss the part of the definition even you posted about establishing "social order?"

4) You're response to the incident was "good."

1-2) Wall St. "protestors," strikers, activists of many opinions who were assembled illegally (or legally) and who resisted authority to disperse. You're not really going to deny this are you? It was in all the papers, throughout our history. Their original arrest for which you (and apparently arizonawildcat) take offence was for disrupting a church service. CHURCH people. THEY HAVE CHURCH in Russian. Always have. If these kitties had gone into St. Ignatius-Cleveland and done the same thing, refused to leave, they'd have been arrested. End of Story.

3) :laugh:We don't have rules establishing "social order?" When did this happen? Why are some of the same people who here say "freedom of speech" doesn't mean "freedom to say it when and where you want or without employment consequences," seem to think it doesn't apply there also?

4) Leave out info much? "Good," that people attempting to illegally force their will on others, were punished. They actually got off easy. They weren't arrested in Sochi. They would have been here. So yes, there's still a bit of the state supported nanny culture, Police are Mommy and Daddy and they can disperse rulings and punishments but let's be real please, ours have done much worse than what was sanctioned there. A couple slaps on the arms that wouldn't have happened if the group had dispersed.

Fish in a barrel.

I say we start a band called the "D*** Disturbance" and go jump around "protesting" on Fountain Square or at the Rock and Roll HOF wearing noting but a "sock". Maybe we can get some press too.

It's an amorphous group at best. More of a movement, posing as a punk group. If you dressed oddly, threw on a mask, and jumped in to the next "concert", you'd be a member of the band P*ssy Riot, too.

They use each "15 minutes of Fame" to bring their cause to the fore.

Don't give the FoulmudQueen any ideas..... I really don't need his wrinkled old hiney on my TV, Live on 5, pixellated or not !

Actually, they kind of do this already. It's called the gay pride parade. They paint a lavender line down Euclid Avenue and inflict themselves upon Cleveland annually.

TylerDurden is absolutely owning eastisbest in this thread. This has been quite an entertaining show so far. Nice performance, TylerDurden.

Dutch Speedskating coach takes shots at American Football and by extension American culture.

http://espn.go.com/olympics/winter/...-says-us-focus-more-speedskating-not-football

Ironic how he calls us narrow-minded and yet all of the Netherlands medals come from one sport. They might dominate Speedskating but it will never put them at the top of the medal count.

Yep, they only have 24 medals compared to the USA's 27. Pretty lame for a country their size. Oh wait...

that movie is such a heroic movie, 2 guys who are...lame. it's lame guy hero-movie. let me tell you something. i'm willing to take this pressure. i saw that movie. and when i saw it, the first thing i did, i leaned back, i crossed my arms, i saw the whole thing and i said "this did nothing for me, but i think i've run into the holy grail of something white." like i think i saw some sht that i didn't supposed to see. it's self-hate, guilt...the burden of white guys who can't be men, and the burden of dishonesty, the burden of having to go to work and say "blah blah blah"...so when i say "weak", i don't mean like...but it's like, it's this...it's a dream movie! it's a "i'm dreaming i'm a better man" movie! that's who tyler durden is! he's an imaginary better me to white people.

dude, one day i said "let me watch fight club" cuz it's like "bleh" and i'm like "wait a minute." in the middle of it, while it turns into "i'm gonna destroy the world" then we find out tyler durden is dadada...i go, i go....i sat there and watched the credits, and i said "somethin happened. this means nothing to me but this is, this is absolutely whiteness." it's the scarface of white people man. big time movie. i always say, "if you're black, you get a hold of fight club, to get some white guy insight." unbelievable, man.

If by owning you mean your alter ego has failed to supply a single fact or event, even a forced one, to counter my position that they would have also gotten arrested here then I guess so. If you have one, let's have it. We don't allow illegal assemble or illegal demonstration and disruption of private or public assembly either.

Show a definition of "Communism," which states an inherent position on limits of expression that would be markedly different then ours.

While your at it, maybe inform yourself that our government no longer considers Russia communist. Bringing it up in the first place was faulty logic. The 80s are over. You and all your alt id's are invited into a new millennia. It's been on for over a decade. You've missed some interesting things.

Now, I'm not looking to "own" anyone, just have a healthy discussion. But I believe the definition of "owning" someone is when you so severely defeat them that all they can do is stand behind the bully like the kid in "Christmas Story" and say "Oh Yeah!"

Consider yourself "owned."

Probably because he's not arguing against that? He's arguing with you about the other stupid sh1t you've said, genius. And you've been getting owned in the process.

Cue eastisbest responding to this with another corny line like "consider yourself 'owned'" with a  at the end so he feels better about himself and feels like he won the argument.

I believe you're the one that brought "owned" into this. And he's the one that brought  into it. Forgetting quickly? And those points are exactly what we've been talking about, none other, "genius." So by your definition of "owning," you just got "owned" again. Two posts in a row.

Now feel free and go find those counter facts If they exist and MAYBE you'll change my mind. I've no hope of educating anyone who prefers blindly looking for an enemy, be it Russia or be it a poster on a message board.

ps: You're glad we won Beiber, aren't you? You just seem like that radical for the sake of being radical type (at least on this topic).

And those points are exactly what we've been talking about, none other, "genius."

Why don't you go back for me and quote the post where TylerDurden challenged the point that "they would have also gotten arrested here" for their public protest? Ah, forget it, just stick to doing exactly what I said you would do before, which is post a corny line like "so by your definition of "owning," you just got "owned" again. Two posts in a row" so that you can feel better about yourself and feel like you're winning the argument. That way you can keep saying anything you want, and think you're right all the time! Hooray!

The population/size argument doesn't hold water. There is a limit to the number of participants a country can have in each event. They have the same chance to win a medal as Russia or the US in any given sport.

What? The number of contestants allowed has nothing to do with it. The Netherlands has a population about the same as Ohio. How many Olympians did we send?

Surprised to see that Monaco isn't on top of the medal chart...they should have the same chance to win as the USA in any given sport.

That's like saying Bradford HS should be able to compete with Moeller HS in football. After all, they can only play eleven at a time, and both schools have at least eleven boys, so the size argument doesn't hold water?

Are you seriously suggesting that size in population, GDP, wealth, resources, facilities, etc. doesn't matter?

Not sure, but if all of our top athletes played soccer and speed skating, we'd probably have a good shot at beating the Netherlands at their best games.

Is this a "last word" contest because you again brought nothing to the discussion? And again for your memory, YOU brought this "owned" word into the discussion.

Three in a row. One more and you get Beiber all to yourself.

So you can't quote the post where TylerDurden challenged the point that "they would have also gotten arrested here" for their public protest, and instead for a third time posted a corny line like "Three in a row. One more and you get Beiber all to yourself" so you could feel like you won the argument, exactly like I said you would? Why did you even bother posting then? All you did is do exactly what I said you would do. Now go do it for a 4th time so I can just copy this post and update it with your next corny line and use it again. Or you can actually quote the TylerDurden post where he challenged the point that "they would have also gotten arrested here" for their public protest, as you said he did. Your choice. But I already know which option you will choose, so you probably shouldn't even bother.

When it's spread out many more activities? Why is it wrong to say, "not so much?" Some of the poorest countries in the world, dominate distance running. Sure they generally train in the western world but they initially got fast due to their home culture.

I think Yellow-Jacket is mostly right. Isn't is more about density than numbers? Netherlands is not a third world equator country. They are nearly bred for skating; tall people, in a flat cold land. Skating is in their culture as much as hockey is in Canada's and football in ours.

I think the dominance might also be part their emphasis and maybe there's also been part a de-emphasis by others. I've lived in the north nearly all my life and I've never known or met anyone to speed skate as a hobby, let alone a religion.

Not sure, but if all of our top athletes played soccer and speed skating, we'd probably have a good shot at beating the Netherlands at their best games.

How does the Netherlands do at the Summer Games ?

Pretty funny, calling us narrow-minded, unless he means the athletes follow the money.

What does this even have to do with the original topic of the Dutch coach running his mouth? Are you agreeing that we waste our time with "foolish" sport over the likes of the oh so prestigious Speedskating?

The Dutch coach was just expressing his opinion. He prefers speedskating over football while many Americans prefer football over speedskating. Most likely based on each person's own environment. Your comment about The Netherlands never being on top of the medal count is what I was replying to. I responded that based on size, the Dutch have more than held their own in medal count. You responded that size has nothing to do with it and I disagreed and tried to present an example. That's pretty much it. Disagree or not, the size of a country (population, wealth, etc) plays a big role in medal count success.
