2011-12 Swim Predictions

USA teams are back in the water, so I thought that I might kick off some swim discussion. One exciting swimmer to watch this season will be Lima Shawnee's Junior Erik Risolvato. Did you see his results from Jr. Nationals? 1st in the 50 free in 22.74 (trials cut), 2nd in the 100 free in 50.82 (trials cut), 17th in the 100 fly in 55.99

Converted, these times are 19.56 in the 50, 43.86 in the 100 and 48.60 in the fly. This kid may set a national high school record in the 50 and 100 this year, what he will do his senior year?

wondering...

With this being an Olympic year...How many of these talented kids do you think would skip high school swimming to train for the trials? Since he appears to be a sprinter the change to short course swimming is not huge... your thoughts?

This is Erik Risolvato and I would like to say thank you for noticing my accomplishment it was very unexpected considering I started training 6 weeks late and only had 9 weeks to train this past summer and I am now training for the olympic trials as my main focus this year I have given up the regular highschool life in pursuit of my dream which is to become the youngest sprinter to make the olympic team and to be the winningest sprinter ever. Gary Hall ,olympic coach and father of Gary Hall jr, is my advisor and we have the next 43 weeks all planed out I hope that you continue to follow my progress and if you are interested I have a facebook "fan page" you could call it at facebook.com/erikthefly I post news and videos and pictures. every friday I post the workout of the week in which I have the hardest or most interesting workout that we did that week and I explain it and do it.

I guess Erik's comments answer this question. Having had the pleasure of meeting Gary Hall Sr. and supplying him with training products, you are in good hands. Race Club has produced more than a few Olympic Gold Medal sprinters. Good luck with your training

Yes Gary is an amazing coach and I've been working with him for the past 3 years and he has been with me every step of the way we are in constant contact. I won't actually have a full taper for the state meet this year but I feel I should still get close to the national records.

Some D2 swimmers from the Southwest District had impressive IM times at Jr. Nationals this morning. Cin. Indian Hills' Mackenzie Rice went 1:49.67 to make it back in the consolation final. Tipp City's Brett Mackenzie swam a 1:51. 57 and Wilmington's Joshua Quallen was close behind in 1:51.58. Ad Risolvato into the mix and the D2 state meet should have some quick swims this year.

With those times he should be the favorite in the 50 and probably 100 too. Although Christian, who was a freshman last year, could see a lot of improvement.

We will get to see these two guys head to head in the 50 this weekend at the Ned Reeb.

I watched Goertemiller's 500 final and Rice's IM online. Very exciting to see Ohio swimmers make finals at this level. Firestone's Katie Miller was also in the A final going 2:01 in the IM.

This year is looking very exciting for the swimming community and I can't wait to compete at the state meet. Make sure you watch the northwest distrect this season. lima shawnee will be putting out some amazing swims this year.

LMAO

This is NOT going to be an "exciting" year.

X will win state, with utmost ease, and the excitement will be low when X goes into day 2 of the state finals with an overwhelming lead...

Joe, your X loyalty is only matched by your singular view of swimming being only a team sport. Check the source of the comment, he credentials might provide some excitement when he has the potential to set a national record. Good thing that Lima Shawnee is D2.

Sure X will win, but I think that it will still be a thrilling season for those X swimmers. That is, unless X winning is not "exciting" to you . . .

Your remarks are inappropriate and not indicative of those who humbly support and follow St. Xavier Swimming. As you know, we are supposed to be "men for others" in all things we say and do. AMDG.

Looking forward to following the success of all the swimmers this year at the state meet.

Ohio has some of the best high school swimming in the country. And I love to compete against all the different schools. I don't think d1 or d2 makes a difference in how fast the swimmers are because it just shows the size of the team. And last year d2 swimmers were mostly all faster then d1 state champs. Ohio just keeps getting faster and faster its great. Good luck to all teams this year. Very exciting year to come!!

+1

Totally agree with you Erik! Having moved to Ohio 8 years ago I've been blown away by the quality of the swimming in this state. You expect amazing swimmers in California and Florida... but the kids in Ohio (age group and HS) are really fast and it's great to watch and root for ALL of you, regardless of school/division. Best of luck to you and your team.

So I'm at the knight invitational and I went 20.1 in prelims and they had the pads set so that they didn't register untill after 20sec and they didn't reset them for finals so I finally hit a 19 and it doesn't show up on the boared because I had to double tap it. What the heck? Great meet though st Francis had some impressive times and my team Lima Shawnee did great both girls and guys. I appreciate all the supporters that follow swimming and make it possible for us to compete at the collegiate and professional level. This sport has taken me to new places pyhsicaly, mental and spiritually. Thank you all.

The largest show this year is definitely going to be the men's D1 100 breaststroke. The big 5 will be at it again with Hren,Bader,Brower,Pohlman, and MacDonald fighting it out at finals. I can't wait! Possibly a state record?

It will be a battle for sure but the saint x kids and many other big d1 schools are well known for swimming very fast very early and dropping little if no time at the state meet they suit up an chance they get. I wish I could see that race but being d2 I won't be able to.

dont know what you are talking about st. x and big schools being know for not dropping time, actually the opposite is the case, look at ua, x, sf, sc...year after year those schools drop huge amounts of time at the end of the year, the only school that i know that suits up a lot and doesnt drop as much time is university

look at the results from last year. st. x and upper arlignton and a lot of other schools go there fastest times at early in the season and do not drop much time at the state meet and or they go there fastest times at districts. they don't suit up so much anymore but when the body suits where in they would during invites and sometimes against rival schools. These are all big yard schools so it is hit and miss with there tapers everyone tapers differently there is no set formual for tappering and I dont know any school that goes through an actual training cycle so although it might be good for there mid distance swimmer these schools do not put out the best sprinters and there stroke rates will show you that right away they are all used to swimming those long sets. I'm not saying that they are bad teams but last year they all looked like they had some very promising swimmers and i thought they would have dropped more time.

I am not sure that you are really researching the times correctly to say that the top teams don't improve. Look closely at the District to State times for St. Francis alone last year.

Regarding teams not going through a training cycle, that is not correct either. Remember that you have the benefit of training with a dedicated coach when most other coaches have a whole team, so individualized workouts are not an option. To say that these schools do not put out the best sprinters is not a fair statement. Both the D1 and D2 50 free state champs last year came from good programs at US and Strongsville.

I do not think the Bombers would have won last year if their swimmers had not dropped time from the District meet. Last year every Bomber swimmer that qualified for the state meet came back to swim at finals.

Coach Brower and his coaching staff do an incredible job every year preparing the swimmers to perform their best at the state meet.
