1988 All-Star Game

The NBA Network had this game on last night. I was pleasantly surprised by how competitive it was. The players actually cared and played hard the whole game. It was better basketball than you see in a regular season game today. WAY better than today's exhibition all star games.

I was a fan of the NBA back then but really thought my tastes had changed. Now I realize it really was the NBA that had changed. This brought back memories of what it was like when the NBA was full of competitors and not just entertainers.

Even then salaries were at risk but maybe not enough to negate the competitive juices. How often do players of that caliber get a chance to play a competition of that caliber> They truly were the best in the world and no one was close. Now, they make WAY too much to risk injury and take that game seriously.
