Pelosi bounces Jordan and Banks from insurrection investigation committee

It is more bipartisan than Benghazi....

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on Wednesday said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is "playing politics" with the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot by pulling select Republicans off the committee created to investigate the origins of the attack and pursuing a separate investigation.

Why it matters: Cheney said she believes McCarthy's "disgraceful" actions and rhetoric on the insurrection should disqualify him from becoming House speaker if the GOP reclaims the chamber in the 2022 midterms.

  • Cheney, currently the sole Republican on the Jan. 6 committee, said she agreed with Pelosi's decision to reject McCarthy's naming of Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.) to the committee.
What she's saying: "At every opportunity, the minority leader has attempted to prevent the American people from understanding what happened, to block this investigation," Cheney said.

  • "Today, the speaker objected to two Republican members. She accepted three others. She objected to two — one of whom may well be a material witness to events that led to that day, that led to January 6, the other who disqualified himself by his comments, in particular, over the last 24 hours demonstrating that he is not taking this seriously," she added.
  • "The idea that anybody would be playing politics with an attack on the United States Capitol is despicable and is disgraceful. I'm absolutely dedicated and committed to making sure this investigation holds those accountable who did this and ensures that it never happens again."
The big picture: Cheney said she is confident the committee will complete a nonpartisan investigation, though she said the proposed bipartisan, independent commission that McCarthy opposed and Senate Republicans blocked "would have been the best option."

  • Of note: McCarthy opposed the creation of the commission in May because he said it would be "duplicative and potentially counterproductive."
What exactly is there to investigate? Besides the Dems (Pelosi) doing everything in her power to make Jan. 6th occur? Extra Security? ....no, we don't need no extra security!

Trump campaign sponsoring a terrorist event? Coordination from members of the house. Trump not calling national guard. Trump sitting on his fat arse as racist MAGA terrorist took over the capitol. My Kevin begging trump for assistance. Pence taking over the role of commander and chief because trump will not. Connections between trump campaign/allies and proud boys. That is just a start.

We have never had an American President take the side of an enemy or terrorist organization against the country before trump.

SPonsored a terrorist event? LOL! What did they do to sponsor it? Did they pay for advertising? Did they put out piles of bricks along the street (taking a play from BLM)?

..and your memory is pretty short. Obama took BLM's side for 8 years dumazz.

Kick the Republicans off the committee... that'll make it bipartisan.

You people are nuts!

The Dems offered a completely partisan committee the GQP voted NO. The Dems created a committee and MY KEVIN under trumps instruction appointed six people two were completely unfit and disqualified so GOP took their ball and went home crying. So Nancy Liz and the adults need to act like the adults in the room and do the work themselves. Maybe she will appoint some qualified republicans.

You dingbat really hate dissenting opinions, don't you?

Just read your response here. McCarthy appointed people that Pelosi doesn't like so she kicks them off. How does that make it anything but Partisan?
Nutjobs.

The GOP voted against a Bi-partisan commission their own representative negotiated. Nancy gave them everything. The fact is they won't investigate so here we are. No reason to included them start sending subpoenas and testifying under oath.

While your on here, don’t you want to say something racist just to stay in practice?
Damn, in soccer you'd be red carded for savagely playing the man.

And his question about security is absolutely the most critical question surrounding the events of 1/6.

No reason to include them? How about to ensure a fair hearing? To ensure bipartisanship. To give the committee credibility.

We now know why Pelosi kicked Banks off the committee!

Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN) has revealed what he planned on doing as the ranking member of the select committee investigating the Capitol riot, which may have been one of the factors Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to accept him on the committee.

According to CNN, Banks planned on calling the head of the Capitol Police Union, a loud critic of the security failures from that day, to testify as a GOP witness. Banks had been planning with Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), the select committee's chairman, Tuesday evening on how the logistics of the investigation would work after it was announced he would be the ranking member.

By Wednesday morning, Pelosi said Banks, and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), would not serve on the panel.

"There was no indication at that point that we wouldn't be working together," Banks told CNN. "But what's become obviously clear to me is that, because we immediately started asking questions about the vulnerabilities in the Capitol on January 6, they're not comfortable with that ... They were spooked."

I agree with the resident Yappi leftists that the big question they want to get at is what, IF ANY, involvement did Trump have in the riot. Fair enough.

But IMO even more important are several questions surrounding the security of the Capital Building:

* Why did Pelosi turn down Trump's request for the National Guard to be deployed BEFORE his rally on 1/6?

* What was the deal with capital police allowing hundreds of protesters to enter the Capital Building without any effort to stop them?

* What exactly was said to the Capital Police on duty that day around any threat to the Building they might face?

* What was the extent to which the FBI had penetrated the various right wing groups involved in the riot and did FBI informants plan or incite any of the actions on 1/6?

They already had an example of how to lock out the Republicans with how they handled the Affordable Care Act. Insert tape and hit replay.

Elections have consequences. ACA is here to stay as GOP never came up with any alternatives.
