Week 3: Elder vs Springboro

Elder comes off a big win last week and welcomes in another team with the nickname Panthers.

Springboro is starting off 2023 slow with back to back losses at home.

Lebanon L 14-27
Withrow L 10-29

I attended the game last season at Springboro and I was impressed with their QB and WR. I'd guess they both graduated if Springboro is struggling to score points. Elder overwhelmed them with size and strength in that game, but Springboro did make it close late.

You are right. Springboro graduated their QB and top skill players from last year. The strength of their team is the defense. They have struggled offensively early. They are going with a sophomore QB 6'3 Jacob Davis. No TDs and 3 interceptions in 2 games.

Elder should win this game, and they need Springboro to win a few games the rest of the way for big harbin points. Springboro after an 0-2 and maybe 0-3 start is looking at a 4-6 or 5-5 season. The GWOC is a tough conference.

Both are gone.

This and Life Christian are the Homecoming games PBoy is looking for. Elder should have no issues this week.

E - 42
S - 10

I don't think the outcome will ever be in doubt, but I think you are underestimating the Springboro defense. I don't see Elder putting up 42. I think it's more in the 28-35 to 10 or 14 range. It depends on how healthy Elder is. The good news is Elder has decent depth, but how many starters can continue to go down.

Could be - I could see something like 31-10.

I expect Elder to win, but it could be a closer game than expected. Springboro lead most of the 2nd half last yr. They lost a lot to graduation, but won’t be intimidated playing Elder.

Doublehelix likes to predict unreasonable scores so he has something to bloviate about after the game.

Elder 24 - Springboro 19

42-10 is not unreasonable for this game.

If Elder only beats 'Boro by 5 points, that's not a good sign for the absolute gauntlet they have coming up.

Depends on which WR. Butler, who caught a TD in last yr’s game, is back. Lamb & Howard graduated.

I think this could be closer to the final score. Elder can’t run the ball and that’s going to be a problem vs a good Springboro Defense. Uran is out this week but if he’s back without a taped up hand, they have to give him touches at RB for the rest of the yr.

I don’t understand the resistance to changing up the backfield, their current starting RB is averaging less than 3 YPC and relying on your QB to be your leading rusher will only get him hurt.

35-14 Elder. Game never really in doubt, Elder jumps out by 14 in the 1st half, balloons to 21, maybe 28 in the 2nd half. Elder's defense really controls this one and the Elder offense takes care of business by wearing down the Springboro defense.

I think it was three years ago Springboro’s freshman team came down to The Pit and won an unscheduled final game of the season. That team had good size and speed and beat our freshmen in a hard fought game. Now I fully expect that our kids from that team will have progressed more than the Springboro kids, how much more remains to be seen. I’m sticking with 24-19. We will see. Go Elder!

I’m still not really sure what happened in last yr’s game. Elder scored easily on the 1st drive and it looked like it would be a blowout. Boro went on to score 20 straight points before Elder woke up and score 2 straight TDs. People also forget Boro’s WR nearly came up with a miraculous catch on the final drive that would’ve put them well within range to kick the winning FG.

I think Elder wins comfortably. Springboro is 0-2 and only scored 24 points in those two games combined. They also had 9 penalties last week.

Looking like a down year for Boro.

I think everyone is underestimating Springboro because they are 0-2. Lebanon and Withrow are no slouches this year. Elder is still banged up. Springboro defense is better than you gusy think. The Springboro offense will be better prepared than they were week 1 getting good experience the first 2 weeks.

28-24 Elder. I hope I am wrong and it's a blowout.

E is going to win, and it will never be in doubt.

The grind starts next week.

Since when are E fans reluctant against Springboro? You can't be a state powerhouse and worry about Springboro. Last year was an anamoly.

These are situations I’d like to see Elder have the backup throw a few passes. Not saying they should be taking deep shots down field but a few short passes to get the backup comfortable.

Boro has the look of being a good team. Soph QB has clear skills but makes bad decisions. Not sure why they aren’t better.
Stop, they're not good.

It could have been 49-0 if E stepped on the gas, and their lone TD was against mostly the 2nd team.

Boro is terrible and will be lucky to win 2/3 games. That’s a bad football team that Elder showed mercy to.

They’re terrible but they look like they have players. Usually, you can eyeball a team this bad in warmups and see why they’re so bad, not the case for Boro.
