UC coaching search

Brannen wouldn't be bad to look at. Not sure I want Pitino, although at this point I may be willing to sacrifice wins for integrity lol

Savino will get it, good recruiter and he is the most likely candidate to keep all the current Bearcats

Would 4-star recruits reply to Brannen or just leave him on read if he slid in their DMs. I'd prefer not to start a Covington Catholic and Boone County pipeline to Clifton if possible.

The team that knocked UC out had a kid from Cov Cath.

I think many people took him for granted.
He is one of, what 6 coaches, who have lead their programs to 9 or more consecutive NCAA postseasons.

If I were a UC fan, I’d be ok with missing the Tourney every now and again, if it meant a deeper Tourney run.

Van Exel might be a good choice for the recruiting front but does he have any coaching experience?

Texas Southern University assistant coach 2009

Atlanta Hawks hired Van Exel as a player development instructor.2010-14

Head coach of the Texas Legends in the NBA D-League 2015

Memphis Grizzlies assistant coach 2016-current

I always hated this statistic. Sure he's in that group but compare his resume to the other coaches in that group and he's the clear outlier.

Cronin is the hole that turned un Ohio State when Randy Ayers was there, Damon Flint fiasco.

I wouldn't call Mick a hole, but he did parlay Damon Flint into a career. At the time Mick was an assistant JV coach at Woodward High School, and accompanied Flint on his college visit to OSU. In Columbus the OSU guys took Flint across the street to a McDonalds, which apparently was a violation. Mick dimed them out, and became the video coordinator at UC when Flint committed to the Bearcats.

True.
BUt one could argue it is tougher to make it at a school like UC compared to those big names who get recruits because of the name on the front of the jerseys, not necessarily the coach.

And what does missing the tourney every now and then lead to making deeper runs?

You have a Veteran laden team some yrs that helps make that deeper push. The downside is those kids graduate and you can’t reload, so you have to develop a new crop of players and that comes at the expense of winning, if you’re not a blue blood.

Look at Notre Dame under Mike Brey, missed the Tournament the past 2 yrs, but went to back to back elite 8s in the yrs prior.

Especially when you consider UCLA fired Ben Howland just a few yrs after he went to 3 consecutive Final Fours. Getting to the Tournament isn’t enough for UCLA.

Thad Matta?

The candidates mentioned on TV for the UC job were:

Nick Van Exel
NKU Coach Brannen
Thad Matta
Murray State Coach McMahon

I thought Matta had serious back issues and does he really want to get back into coaching with all the travel and stress with back problems?

Matta isn't coaching anywhere until OSU's buyout ends.

Not sure if it's true but Kenyon Martin said in a tweet that his son is more likely to end up at UC now. If he did tweet it, it has since been deleted. Wonder what Cronin didn't like about him.
