UC Bearcats

What was the record under Fickell in year 1?
4-8.

Same record as the year before.

Fickell was 9-3 his last season, and I believe the team had the interim for the bowl game and finished 9-4.

and went to a stellar 3-9 season.

uC aint gonna get the recruits to come there and compete in the Big12 so competitively they done screwed up, but theyre gonna make more money so for some pundits that is a win.

Enjoy mediocrity!

UC is screwed and it was their own doing! Adselder is right, anything better than ACC but UC literally has No Chance to compete Financially in the Big12. No offense to Mr. Sheakley and Mr. Wyler but those fellers can’t compete with Oil Tycoons. Satterfield obviously in way over his head. Obviously he didn’t see much in Portal last yr because got job so late. How do you guys think he will do in Portal this yr?

They're not going to get the recruits lol. They're in a major conference. They're already getting better recruits than Fickell ever did. You're 100% wrong on this.

Not really sure what the bolded has to do with anything. I'm not of the opinion that they're having NIL issues. The exodus is more clashes between players and coaches.

I'm about as impressed with Satterfield as a play-caller as I am with Zac Taylor as a play-caller, which is to say not at all. The offensive scheme isn't bad, but it's so predictable, very little imagination.

Sorry, Fat Fingers. Satterfield Calling Plays with a terrible QB so not sure what to think about his Play Calling. Taylor has admitted he can’t make adjustments. Don’t know how can be an NFL Coach then but that’s another discussion.

Better recruits than Fickell ever did, like who? Those recruits will all be starters next yr and keep the Ship from sinking?

So you're sayin' that my crew that's had season tix since Rick Minter was the coach should not re-up next year? ........Damn

I wouldn’t. You’re pretty much throwing money down the drain until Satterfield is gone. Season-ticket holders dropping like flies would be one way to possibly get Satterfield out of there more quickly.

Nah, the only coach we've had in the last twenty years that hit the ground running was Brian Kelly. Dantonio left him a roster chocked full of dudes ready to win. Dantonio, Butch Jones, and Fickell all struggled til they got a couple of recruiting classes in. Bearcats fans survived Tuberville. If Satterfield don't work out, we'll send him off to the Senate too and go get somebody else.....

Bearcats land Indiana transfer QB Brendan Sorsby in the portal.

Played in 10 games for the Hoosiers last season throwing for nearly 1600 yards with 15 TDs and 5 INTs.

Also rushed for 276 yards with 4 TDs.

3 years of eligibility remaining.

The quicker they can get rid of Satterfield, the quicker the started a climb in the B12. The hire made absolutely no sense and literally gave a regional rival what they dreamed of. Got the local hero to come coach and didn't have to pay a dime to get rid of Satterfield when they wanted to fire him but didn't have any cause, therefore buyout.

Bearcats pick up another Buckeye transfer in safety Kye Stokes. Never really saw the field but highly athletic and made plays during the spring games.

Figured we'd kickstart this thread again with the start of the season approaching in a few weeks.

Here's the 2024 schedule at a glance:

8/31 - Towson (Home)
9/7 - Pittsburgh (Home)
9/14 - Miami Ohio (Away)
9/21 - Houston (Home)
9/28 - Texas Tech (Away)
10/12 - UCF (Away)
10/19 - Arizona State (Home)
10/26 - Colorado (Away)
11/9 - West Virginia (Home)
11/16 - Iowa State (Away)
11/23 - Kansas State (Away)
11/30 - TCU (Home)

After an abysmal 3-9 2023 season, a few areas that appear to be improved are:

-QB: IU transfer Brendan Sorsby, by all accounts, looks to be an upgrade over Emory Jones - especially with his ability to make reads and spread the ball around to different receivers.
-TE: A healthy Joe Royer (OSU transfer/Elder grad) appears to be an all-conference caliber talent as a pass catcher and could really open up the middle of the field in a way the passing game wasn't able to exploit last season
-Defensive Backfield: It was clearly the weakest position group in the program last season and has appeared to have been bolstered sufficiently through the transfer portal
-Team Culture: A number of cancerous personalities from the 2023 team have left the program and there appears to have been a strong emphasis on character/locker room fit for the new guys they brought in over the offseason.

A few areas with lingering question marks are:

-The 3-3-5 Defense... New DC Tyson Veidt brings a proven concept over from Iowa State, but it remains to be seen how this defense will suit the team's personnel in Year 1.
-Defensive Line... Two projected impact players in DE Mikah Coleman and DT Jalen Hunt are already out for the season with injuries and the status of star DT Dontay Corleone remains up in the air as well after he started receiving treatment for blood clots in his lungs in late June.
-WR: The top receiver from the 2023 team returns in Xzavier Henderson, but there's a big drop-off in returning production after him. Early reports indicate this position group is deeper and faster than last season's group, but until we see them in real games, it'll be hard to project how good these guys will be.

What are everyone's predictions for the season?

That Team Culture topic you have listed is probably going to be something I’m looking at this season. Obviously I expect a better W/L record, but if that culture doesn’t change from last season to this season, then it’s time for a coaching change. I want to see 7-5 or better.

I see 5-7, at best 6-6. Thankfully they dont play OK St, Kansas or Utah.
Wins:
Townson
Pitt
Houston
West Virginia
Arizona State
Maybe are Colorado or Miami. Miami because its a home game.
Love to see the new QB get off to a good start.

The Miami game is in Oxford but I agree that 6 (maybe 7) seems like a best case scenario.

Entire offensive line returns along with Kiner for an offense that finished sixth in the country in rushing. Sorsby at quarterback is a major upgrade, and year two for this coaching staff should make a dramatic difference. I say the Cats win all their games at Nippert, plus Miami and UCF to finish 8-4. Win or Lose, the important thing to remember is that from this point forward we get $42 Million a year from being in the BIG12........which is nice
