Time for Nostalgia - Share Your Jackson Memories

Not that it was very long ago - remember when they realligned Hills & Dales and Everhard? We lived briefly down in that area - was really bizarre to see that all change, albeit for the better.

Same with Stuhldreher at H&D.

Still not sure if i am a big fan of the realligning of Hills and dales and everhard the way that it was done.....
I also remember there being a place called Zinks Dairy at the intersection of stuhldreher and wales where the Circle k sits now..but thats going back about 35-40 years

Video & Sun the best video store Jackson has ever had right off of wales rd across from where family video is now.

Boom Outta Here

Meh...never a big fan of it, but I honestly didn't go there much. The best one, IMO, was Lake Cable Video where Mossor Computers is now on Fulton. That one was one of the first ones we had around here - nice selection and a really nice older guy owned it.

Liked Fox Video/Pizza, too.

I lived in Hartville in the 50's, so I don't know a lot about Jackson township but I do rember Anglemont Dairy, they had the best orange drink around. Also I havn't had any good buttermilk since they closed!

Question: The Mariachi Locos on Frank (by Fishers) used to be Michael's Steakhouse. But before that - what was it?

I honestly don't know the answer to this, but it appears to have been a fast food joint (looks like Wendy's, but that seems utterly odd to have two so close, since the one on BV has been there, like forever).

What was the name of the pizza place that was next to The Skatery. It lasted about 2 years. It was always busy when I was there but only lasted a short time. Had to be around '87.

I know the one you're talking about - it occupied the DQ space before the remodel to DQ. Can't remember exactly, but was it Fox's perhaps? That would've been around the time Fox's opened down at the corner - perhaps they just moved?

I've been racking my brain trying to recall no luck yet but.as far as resteraunts that had faded by the wayside i know where max and erma's stands we used to have mountain jacks and i believe right before that the boars head.also in the general area once upon a time was the whaling station another pretty decent locally owned resteraunt

I believe it was just Pepe and Luigi's. They had the greasiest pizza. It always tasted so good after a night of couples skating at the Skatery. There was also an Ice Cream (I'll call it a trailer) place right in front, next to the Jackson Journal Building. What was the name of that? Does anyone remember that the McDonalds on Fulton had a basement where they would host birthday parties. Also, it was in Canton but does anyone remember the grocery store, I think it was on 30th street, that had the balls that kids could play in?

That trailer was called the Dairy Cup and yes, it was on the other side of the Jackson Journal (florist, schoolhouse, etc. depending on time) building from the Skatery.

Yes, I remember the birthday parties at the McD's on Fulton. The basement turned into offices for Ciccini's, but I'm not sure what they are now.

Hmm...would that be Piggly Wiggly on 30th (not sure if it was where Giant Eagle is now or Marc's - seems to me a grocery store used to be at Marc's).

I was thinking it was called Finest?

It could've been a Finast (with an "a", by the way...lol). There were at least two grocery stores over in 30th St. Plaza prior to what we have now, IIRC. Heck, seems to me that there were two over there concurrently, too. I wasn't aware we ever had a Finast in Stark County, but that doesn't mean it wasn't the case. The only reason i remember anything is that the old pet shop there was a customer of my Dad's business and he used to take me to visit them on occasion.

Also, The Giant Eagle at 30th St. Plaza used to be across the street where Choices HS is now (next to the old Best Products). Not sure what it was before Giant Eagle - possibly a Krogers, like the one at Belden Village had been. We didn't get Giant Eagle's in Stark until around 1990ish, IIRC.

While we're on the subject of old grocery stores - two other questions:

1. Anyone remember Fazio's when it was attached to the mall? heck, anyone remember Fazio's, period? I know they had locations all over, such as at Akron Square (also now gone) and on 62 across from K-Mart.

2. Not that it is part of Jackson anymore (thanks Massilllon!!!), but anyone remember what grocery store used to be in Wales Square? I completely forget what it was called.

And I'm still looking for the name of the restaurant that used to be where Mariachi Loco's on Frank is. The one before it was a MIchael's. As said, it appears to have been a fast food joint at one time.

The grocery store that was in Wales Square. Was called Value King .If it was the one at the end of tha plaza you were refering to where other notables like stanbaughs had established residence there for awhile

I know tat there was a Rax on Whipple, but I thought that Michaels used to be a Rax. I'm probably wrong.

Yup, right location - north end of the plaza where Stambaugh's ended up being later on. Odd, though, that that name (VK) doesn't ring a bell for me at all.

Hmm...never thought of Rax. I suppose that could be it. Where was a Rax on Whipple? I know of the one that was on Portage (now a pub or something).

Speaking of roast beef joints...how about Hardees at Foxboro? When it opened, I remember the JHS kids thinking it would be great having a food joint that close, but turned out not many high schoolers ended up going to it...lol.

Not on whipple, I was thinking of the one on Portage.

This is not a place but a family, does anyone remember thr Sexton Family. They had that house with the pond out front on Wales. What was the real story with them. They killed people?

I definitely remember the Sexton's and the murder. However, I always thought they lived on Lutz, just south of Portage, as we used to drop off a Sexton girls there on our bus route - next door to where Osugi's lived (the teacher at Jackson - he died about four years ago - very nice man). Maybe she wasn't connected to the same family, though.

Also - do you remember the Large's? Steve and John were teens when they killed their mother back in 1987 or so at their Lake Cable (very near LC Elementary) home.

Or speaking of murders - remember the one that happened in the JTPD parking lot when they were on Fulton (now '91')? IIRC, that was the beginning of some very rough years for Chief Paar.

Sexton's indeed lived on Wales. Very very good book if any of you are readers out there. I think it was called " House of Secrets" or something like that. All kinds of familar names and places in the book.

Mr. Osugi was a Michigan fan.

I recall all of those very well. Also I am not sure that the murder in the Jtpd parking lot was ever solved

Country Kitchen? I recall it as a chain of some type but thought it was a sit down place.

Country Kitchen is the restaurant at the truck stop at Portage/77, isn't it?

The reason I say it looks like a fast food restaurant, is because there clearly appears to be an older drive-thru window on the north side. Makes it definitely look like a fast food place.

There's a Country Pride at the T/A.
