Suburban Lakes League Championships

It will be very interesting to see the games played to win the team title. Elmwood, Genoa, and Eastwood all beat one another and I am sure they are seeking the best match-ups to win the last SLL Championship. Elmwood loses some points with Wise (160) being out but has the ability to shake things up at the lighter weights by bumbing up Goebel and Lee and sliding in a good young wrestler at 119. Or they could leave those young men at the lower weight class and Elmwood's 135 might be down at 130. As for Eastwood, I don't see much movement - maybe moving 215 to HWY and hoping the back-up at 215 can win a match or two, and possibly moving one or two kids around in the lighter weights. Genoa has the ability to move as well. Where will Martinez be? (152 or 160) and where will Fejes be? (140 or 145). Fejes was seeded at 140 at Clay but then wrestled 145, taking 2nd and beating Box from Otsego in the process (a high quality senior wrestler). It definently appears to be a three team race but Gibsonburg and Lake have enough quality wrestlers to make some noise and take 4th or sneak into the 3rd spot. Otsego has some talent sprinkled through out their line-up but I do not believe they have enough to pass the previous 5 teams mentioned. Woodmore has done well with the young men in their line-up but only fielding half a team holds them back. They and Otsego are most likely to finish in the bottom two spots.
Seeding meeting is Friday and wrestling begins Saturday at 11a. Should be an exciting afternoon of wrestling.

I agree w/ Edge on many points and it should be a 3 way race still. All three teams are able to pull this off but Genoa plugging a stud into their lineup at 152/160 has to help.

Looks like another tight race for the SLL title. I guess this is fitting, being the last time.

The team that wins this title will have to have some help from its depth. It looks like Eastwood has the most depth with Genoa a very close second. Elmwood does hold six number one seeds (we all know that doesn't guarantee a title), but they'll need help from everyone else in the line-up in order to come away with another title. Eastwood has all but two weight classes seeded with four number ones, and Genoa has all but one weight class seeded and two number one seeds. Elmwood is lagging with four unseeded weight classes. Upsets (or avoiding them) and low places are going to be huge in the final results.

I wish I could be there. If anyone can post results (or atleast big matches) as the day goes on, it'd be appreciated.

No predictions on my part as I haven't been able to watch any wrestling for three seasons now. However...GO ROYALS!

Does anyone have a website that is posting the brackets for this tournament? I would like to follow from South Carolina. Yes I am a displaced Buckeye.

Here are my picks-

103- Ulinski (Woodmore)
112- Klavinger (Genoa)
119- Ferguson (Elmwood)
125- Goebel (Elmwood)
130- Lee (Elmwood)
135- Emmitt (Elmwood)
140- Caris (Eastwood)
145- Box (Otsego)
152- Horn (Eastwood)
160- Martinez (Genoa)
171- Patterson (Eastwood) Tough Choice, seems weak.
189- Sheehy (Genoa)
215- Baker (Elmwood)
285- Nauman (Eastwood)

Team - Elmwood? Really Tough Choice

If Eastwood has four champs, it'd be hard for anyone to beat them. 112 is big for Elmwood. Dauterman has beaten Klavinger once this year, hope he does it again. If Elmwood's 171 or HWT can get into the finals and even win it, that'll also be huge; they each have the potential for that to happen on a great day.

Going into the finals...

1st - Genoa 159.5
2nd - Elmwood 158
3rd - Eastwood 143.5
4th - Gibsonburg 69

Championship finals match-ups that I can remember...
103 - Woodmore vs Genoa
112 - Elmwood vs Genoa
119 - Elmwood vs Genoa
125 - Elmwood vs Genoa
130 - Elmwood vs Gibsonburg
135 - Elmwood vs Gibsonburg
140 - Eastwood vs Genoa
145 - Otsego vs Genoa
152 - Eastwood vs Woodmore
160 - Genoa vs Eastwood
171 - Elmwood vs Eastwood
189 - Genoa vs Eastwood
215 - Elmwood vs Gibsonburg
285 - Elmwood vs Eastwood
Should be close!

Genoa just had two forfeits right in a row at 112 and 119, not sure what happened, maybe sick? Sure helps out Elmwood......Go Royals.

Through 171, Elmwood has won all of it's championship finals matches - 112, 119, 125, 130, and 135. Goebel finishes as a 4x SLL Champion and earns the MVW award. Team race is still close.

Congrats to the Royals on winning the final SLL championship. And a special congrats to Nick Goebel for becoming the first 4X SLL champion from Elmwood.

112 is big for Elmwood. Dauterman has beaten Klavinger once this year, hope he does it again. If Elmwood's 171 or HWT can get into the finals and even win it, that'll also be huge; they each have the potential for that to happen on a great day.

All three of these things happened and it helped Elmwood win the team title. Goes to show you that wrestling can be a TEAM sport. Congrats again guys...one of the winningest programs in SLL History!

dang! Only one I missed was 112, if Klavinger didn't Forfeit I could of had them all! LOL

Well, you did go with the odds...all first seeds but Klavinger. Dauterman and Klavinger would have been a good match. Dauterman beat him at a JV tournament in mid-January. Too bad Dauterman is behind Ferguson, Goebel, and even Lee or he'd be a tough out at districts. He'll have his shot in the near future.

Thankyou Coach

I would like to say nice job to Woodmore. They did a great job with what they had and nearly pulled out a 4th place finish. I know their fans were very excited to see them at the top of the team score after the first round.
