State Rankings

Looking at the teams currently in the tournament, the accuracy of the final rankings are sketchy at best as more than half the teams still in the tourney were not ranked at all in the final poll. In Division I, ranked teams of 2, 3, 8, and 9 are alive while Division II has teams 1, 3, 5, and 7. At least Division III is pretty accurate with 1, 2, and 3 still around but that still leaves 5 unranked teams still going in Division III. So is this due to parity of teams or just goes to prove that state rankings can’t predict a one and done tourney format?

Imperfect process. People voting can only see so many teams. I suspect some area reps put more thought into their nominations than others. It's good to get recognized, especially for the kids, but at the end of the day it's now that matters.

But I am most familiar with D3 a and there seems more parity this year than in the past.

5) Dayton Christian - ELIMIANTED REG SF (#1 Summit Country Day 1-0)

8) Mansfield Christian - in state quarters
9) Tipp City Bethel - ELIMINATED DIST FIN (#1 Summit Country Day 2-0)
10) Oak Harbor - ELIMINATED DIST FIN (#8 Mansfield Christian 6-1) - reputation of D2 regional team last year

D2 boys
1) Columbus DeSales - in state quarters
2) Revere - ELIMINATED DIST FIN (Aurora 1-0) - returning state runners-up, had lost to Aurora during the season
3) Tippecanoe - in state quarters
4) Rocky River - ELIMINATED DIST SF (Bay 1-1 PKSO) - had beaten Bay in regular season
5) Kettering Alter - in state quarters
6) CVCA - ELIMINATED DIST SF (Aurora 4-3) - beat Aurora in regular season
7) Elida - in state quarters
8) Bexley - ELIMINATED DIST SF (Columbus Academy PK SO)
9) Howland - ELIMINATED REG SF (Aurora 1-0) - perennially don't lose games
10) Wyoming - ELIMINATED REG SF (#5 Kettering Alter 1-0)

Aurora is a team that has beaten three ranked teams straight. I'm not sure if they go through the Akron association of the Cleveland association, they probably were third in either association's local polling (Bay/Rocky River in Cleveland, Revere/CVCA in Akron). Were D1 district finalists last year and are obviously a good team; result wise regular season, beyond the Revere win, every other good team they either lost or tied against.
