The word "US ally" is pretty cheap to come by these days. I mean all you have to do is sign up to NATO so the USA can guarantee your survival in the event of a major war. Hell you don't have to have a military worth crap and you can under spend on defense in order to redirect the money to social programs. Then you can climb up on your high horse and criticize the US for not having government paid Health care!

What's the old saying "with friends like these......."

As for Putin, why not invite Russia to the G8? You really want to reignite a cold war with Russia while we're at the start of a cold war with China? A Russian/China alliance against us is not a favorable geopolitical development - even if it does hurt Trump.

As for the Crimea, well it wasn't exactly a nice move by the Russians but you might want to check out Russian history a bit and see where the Crimea fits in. All things being equal, the Crimea belongs more to Russia then the Ukraine. Hell one could argue that the Ukraine kind of belongs to Russia to. But hey I'm sure we'll be okay when the demographics in the American Southwest trigger a demand for their return to Mexico. We would never think to use military means to prevent it.
Gosh Trump plays tough guy with Mete Frederiksen, the Prime Minister of Denmark.
But with Putin he rationalizes conduct, excuses and rewards him. While the Russian leader’s spy agencies repeatedly assassinate Russian dissidents living outside Russia. His military invaded a neighboring nation and seized thousands of square miles of the nation’s territory. Russia repeatedly violated the INF treaty pushing a new arms race. And they interfered in our Presidential election.
So let’s call Frederiksen nasty and put Putin in the G8, Of coursse she never helped him be elected President.

Are you talking about Russia's "invasion" of the Ukraine and subsequent annexation of the Crimea? If you are you might want to brush up on your history a bit:

* First if you were to check out an atlas from 1990 you would notice that the Ukraine was a part of "Russia". Ditto if you read an Atlas from 1890, 1790 & 1690. So it's not exactly like Russia invaded a neighboring nation. There's some history there.

* But fine, I'll give you that Putin's has acted the thug against Ukraine which was granted its independence in 1991. But the Crimea HAS NEVER BEEN A PART OF THE UKRAINE until Soviet times. Not geographically, not culturally, not ethnically. The Soviets gave Crimea to the Ukraine as a way to gain their support in the immediate years after the communist revolution.

* Over the last 500 years the Crimea was first a part of the Mongol Global Empire and then for centuries it was ruled by the Ottoman Turks. The Russians conquered the Crimea from the Turks 200 years ago. As much as you don't like Putin the Russians had a legitimate historical claim on the Crimea.

I get that history bores most people but before we decide to start Cold War #2 with the Russians over their taking of the Crimea it is important to understand Crimean/Russian history. I don't know about you but I don't rank the Russian annexation of the Crimea as a big deal, especially to the US.

Trump and his administration know that Putin & the Russians are capable of great mischief which is why in some areas they've been very tough on them. But needlessly poking the Bear is not in America's interest. Putting America first means you ignore little things like the Crimea (and yes it's a little thing) in order to have better relations with Russia. You don't run a foreign policy based on how much it hurts Trump. That is not putting America first and it's juts plain stupid to boot.

Ukrainians do not think of themselves as Russians.
Russia slaughtered 5 million Ukrainians in the Holodomor, the mass planned starvation of 1932-1933 and 20,000 more in the purges of the late 1930s to 1941.
And while you may consider Putin’s seizure of the Crimea minor, it received condemnation by the other democracies and sets a precedent for other would be conquerors.
Based on your view, justifying Russian seizure based on their previous conquest, Germany has a right to Poland, Mexico has a right to the Southwest US and Britain to the rest and most of the rest of the world.
Then there are those other Russian actions assassinations of dissidents living in exile, breaking of the INF treaty and interfering in our elections. And what leadership does our president supply, he denies the violations and he praises and rewards the violator. Maybe I would to, if he helped make me President.

They didnt interfere in our election. They bought ads on Facebook...like every PAC does. If you have proof they physically changed votes you are the only one.

He praises dictators because they like having their ego stroked, who knew? How has the hardline stance of previous administrations worked out?

He can be harsh with allies because they arent going anywhere. Also he realizes while your focus is on your enemies your friends can be stabbing you in the back and taking advantage of you which has been happening for too long.

There is a fine line between punishment/corrective action and turning a country into a pariah. Trump could go nuclear with his public comments about Russia, NK etc...all that does is back them into a corner where they have but one choice. Extending an olive branch opens options. It might work, it might not but nothing else has so why not?

This is true for some Ukrainians but not for all Ukrainians. And don't forget that the Russian culture arose out of the Ukraine. If you're looking for comparisons the Russians/Ukrainians are sort of like the English/Welsh.

As for the despicable Soviet genocide against the Ukrainians in 19332/1933 keep in mind that it was done by Joseph Stalin, an ethnic GEORGIAN, who was the ruler of the communist Soviet Union. In fact, Stalin murdered more ethnic Russians during his reign of terror then he murdered Ukrainians.

And the Crimea, which is what Russia took from the Ukraine, was never part of the Ukraine until Soviet days. It is not ethnically, culturally or historically part of the Ukraine. If anyone has a reason to gripe about the Crimea it's the Turks as Russia stole it from them a couple of hundred years ago, gave it to the Ukraine for a short time in the 20th century then stole it back. So why isn't Turkey bitching about Russia's action?

Thirteen Russians have been charged with interfering in the US 2016 election.
“Defendants, together with others known and unknown to the grand jury, knowingly and intentionally conspired to defraud the United States by impairing, obstructing and defeating the lawful functions of the Federal Election Commission, the US Department of Justice and the US Department of State in administering federal requirements for disclosure of foreign involvement in certain domestic activities."
They contacted actual US political experts, who directed them to target key states in the Electoral College,
It appears, from the indictment, that the Russians paid particular attention to Florida, which Mr Trump would eventually win by a 1.2% margin.
While Captain bone spur runs down the ungrateful Danes, who lost more of service people per capita than any other capita in our Afghanistan War than anyone other coalition nation, he heaps praise on an ex-KGB thug who is still trying to carry out their mission of overthrowing our nation’s government.
Sucking up to dictators has been tried before. “Appeasement” led to the World War II and in the aftermath of the war, Russian occupation of Eastern Europe.
You are right though that dictators and would be dictators do like to have their egos stroked. The question is why should do that for them. It only encourages them.

Napoleon was a Corsican (born in 1769 the year France conquered the independent nation of Corsica) of Italian ancestry who pushed a policy of French nationalism and conquest, Hitler was an Austrian who pushed a policy of German national, conquest and genocide. Stalin was an ethnic Georgian born in Russia who pushed a policy of Russian nationalism, mass murder and genocide.
According to scholars the famine should be understood as part of a larger effort to wipe out Ukrainian culture and nationalism that began in the 1920s. It was not industrialization or modernization, it was cold-blooded killing by hunger.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said: "Unfortunately, throughout history, the right of the Crimean Tatar people to live in dignity in their own homeland was undermined with collective deportations and repression. Today we are witnessing the illegal annexation of the Crimea and other regrettable events

It hopefully makes them more receptive to your wishes. Calling them every name in the book hasn't helped.

Didnt see anything in there about hacking voting machines to change votes, paying people for their votes, sending Russian operatives in to pose as citizens and vote...they did not interfere in the election.

It hasn’t been tough anything, a lot of carrot, not enough stick.
Clinton’s administration established a deal known as the Joint Framework Agreement which offered $4 billion worth of nuclear, energy, economic and diplomatic benefits in exchange for the halting of North Korea’s nuclear program in 1994. The deal also included two light-water nuclear reactors, which were believed to be more difficult to use to make weapons than Pyongyang’s plutonium reactor.
In 2005 during the Bush Administration, China, North Korea, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the U.S the group offered some energy and economic assistance if North Korea would give up its renewed efforts to build up its nuclear program.
Obama sent an envoy to North Korea at the end of the year, asking leader Kim Jong Il to begin denuclearization talks, but his regime didn’t make any major moves toward pursuing them .Some seeming progress was made in 2012 when new leader Kim Jong Un agreed to halt nuclear tests in exchange for food aid. North Korea’s pursuit of nuclear weapons continued, however.
They have appeased this regime for decades. Donny is just the penultimate suck up, betraying friends to give this criminal regime status and respectability.
13 indictments show your definition of election interference is obviously not the legal one.

Not a real good example of how NK should be handled. Every case resulted in more appeasement, pay off and ultimately Nukes.

Trump hasn't given them any new "assistance" or pay offs.

North Korea should be a pariah, its criminal regime is soaked in blood.
Earlier President have tried appeasement and the soft touch with North Korea and have not deterred these killers. Now Trump gives their regime legitimacy while undermining our alliances in the region.

NK is no more legitimate today than they were 4 years ago.

NK is no more legitimate today than they were 4 years ago.
Of course they are now more legitimate. The blood thirsty chunky twerp that rules is a special friend to the leader of the most powerful country in the world. That gives his regime legitimacy. Kim Jong Un fires off missiles, then sends Donnie a love note. And the President of the United States swoons over “the beautiful letter.” Then the dictator fires off another missile.

What has NK gained?

Nothing.

These guys cried when Trump was calling him little rocket man (he's going to start WW3) now they cry when he attempts to be diplomatic.
"these guys" who are these guys. gosh you stereotype people. how do you know what I thought of trump's rocket man comments.

The anti-Trump narrative is well documented. He can do nothing right for some. For others he can do no wrong. Maybe moving away from the world of opinion to some facts would be beneficial.

I found the rocketman a rather wimpy way to describe a third generation mass murderer.

Ridicule often cuts the deepest.

And you can place the blame squarely on the bipartisan appeasement efforts of previous Democrat & Republican establishments who are responsible for there being a 3rd generation mass murderer WITH NUCLEAR BOMBS running NK.

The operative word here is TARTAR. The Tartar's conquered the Crimea from it's previous residents who were a mixture of Creek, Roman, Scythian & Alan. The Russians pushed out the Tartars and moved ethnic Russians in and then the Soviet Union gave the Crimea to the Ukraine in reward for the people's support during the communist revolution.

Bottom line is of all the claimants to the Crimea, the Ukrainians have the least right to this land. But hey I get it - in a perfect world the Crimea would be an independent country free from both the Russians & Ukrainians. So let me know when the world is perfect.

You do know this is just part of the Trump Russia collusion delusion used to psyop the masses and justify a coup attempt? Refusing to meet those accused in court and naming of some who we not even in business at the time is fairly telling.

I would like to know what you think of the direct money trail from the Clinton campaign to Russians involved in the largely debunked Steele dossier used to illegally spy on US citizens including our president?

How has it benefited NK?

Financial aid?
increased trade?

How?
He benefited by the fact he get a free pass to torture and kill Americans. Now that is a diplomatic gain when an American leader refuses to condemn you when you had an American killed.
