OHSAA Releases Preliminary Enrollment Numbers

Interesting to see that Cardinal Mooney seems to be safely in Division 5. That will make everybody happy, huh? I've always said that "big enrollments" are overrated and that most people only see the exceptions, but this will only open up the floodgates even more for the complainers. Hamilton Big Blue at 600 or so? No way!

Does anything happen to a school if they don't correct the wrong numbers?

I am not buying any of these numbers being correct. Too many schools are way off. For example, Toledo Central Catholic now only has 7 more males than Tontogany Otsego. LMAO

Just my guess based on 720 schools 72 in d1 and the others divided by 6 0r approximately 108 per division. I also listed last years breakdown.

Div1 642+ 72
Div2 429-641 108
Div3 309-428 108
Div4 242-308 108
Div5 180-241 108
Div6 130-179 108
Div7 under-129 108
total...........................720

2011-12 breakdown

Please stop posting this yappi. These numbers are incorrect and will be taken off the OHSAA website soon.

Thank you

I would not blame the OHSAA for many of these wrong numbers. I am just guessing here, but I believe many ADs sent in the entire 4 grade enrollment count for boys and girls rather than the 3 year count. I amazes me that that many ADs would be that incompetent. I assume the OHSAA specifically wrote down the 3 grade count they wanted. Secondly, I assume most of these ADs are not new and have done this before, i.e. every two years. I think it should be done every year rather than every two years though.

Whether you like it or not, this is the news that many people have been waiting for. As with every other enrollment release over the past dozen years on here, there were several wrong numbers, but the vast majority are accurate.

When the corrected numbers come out next month, we will post them again. And there will be a couple numbers on there that appear to be incorrect too. It's a process that many of us are already accustomed to.

Ehhh, Coldwater looks to be in Division 5 as well. Let's hold of on giving this one to Mooney just yet. Seems that's happened a couple times before...

You're both right. Clinton-Massie has some explosive talent & I have nothing but respect for the MAC schools. That said, living in the Mahoning Valley, I can already imagine the outcry from schools like LaBrae, Champion, Girard, etc. about how they'll probably be in the same region as Mooney. Schools like Mooney, Massie, the MAC (too many to list), etc. are strong because they've prepared themselves to be great by playing the teams that they've played against for years. The only thing that will keep Mooney from winning their region is if their schedule prevents them from making the playoffs like it did last year.

I didn't even mention that fact that Youngstown Ursuline will be in Division 6. It seems like they should have just left it alone. Oh well.

Buck1974,

AD's do not report this anymore like it used to be. The data is gathered via computer system that is compiled by state and the k-report is generated for each school. This data is then electronically gathered by OHSAA directly from ODE. The problem lies somewhere in this system as many schools k-reports do not match what the OHSAA is reporting. Grade level data is extracted now by the OHSAA. It appears that some data includes 4 grade levels, but this is extracted by the OHSAA. Could be, and most probably is human error.

Thanks, I was incorrect in my assumption of how the Ohsaa got the numbers. It will all be corrected nonetheless.

No worry

No problem Buck1974. Just hope this is corrected soon, which I am sure it will be. I know that OHSAA offices knew this was an issue today. Stay tuned .....we shall see

That number for Mooney is actually close to what it was last time. They were only a few boys away from being D4. Same goes for Ursuline. They've been trending down for the last 30 years. Eventually they will probably be D6 and D7.

I think the issue is that a lot of other schools are way too high.

East, Actually that is inaccurate, Ursuline incoming freshman classes have been going up the past few years, and based on registration for next years class this is considerable larger than Mooney's as it was last year.
