NWO Baseball Talk 2023

Kalida wins PCL for record 22nd time after defeating Grove 4-2

Same teams will be good. Defiance, Van Wert, Coldwater Minster
While you mentioned those teams, I see where the Redskins won both conference titles this year. It looks like for the most part the teams all did a good job of beating each other as there were a lot of 500 teams. Can't wait to see a couple of these teams make a tournament run.

Hate to say I told everyone so but what a disappointment for the Flyers to go down to Hicksville in the tournament. Witt is not the answer. Keep the nepotism out of it. Lake should have pursued Clayton Rolf while he coached every sport.

Defiance keeps playing with fire in a 13-6 sectional final win over Wauseon, but this is the 3rd straight game it had to come from behind to win, two of them against teams with losing records. Bulldogs trailed 6-2 in the 6th. Even before Shaw got hurt, I didn't think they'd win the district. The Division II Archbold district will be Defiance vs. Bryan and Central Catholic vs. Rossford.

In their tournament game Lake started 3 freshman and 2 sophomore’s in the infield and behind the plate. #2 pitcher and cleanup hitter out for season after game 2. What has Clayton Rolf done as a HC that would say the result would be any different? Finishing above .500 and middle of pack in conference isn’t a surprise if you knew the roster. You should be able to that in the TAAC and with Northwoods schedule half asleep, and I don’t think they’ve been there since Segura was there

Not a great year by any means, but having arguably the least athletic senior class in quite some time was reflective across the board in all sports. I don’t think there was an all conference athlete in the whole class on the boys side other than a golfer and a couple in soccer who only play soccer.

check back in at this time next year, and compare. Same result then and I’ll consider your argument

Bradyn or Cody Shaw?

Rossford vs. CC will be a dogfight. Rossford's former HC is an assistant for CC this year. Irish need to get some HITS to win a district, can't rely on pitching to overpower.

Bryan gutted it out against a Napoleon team that I thought would've gone a bit deeper in the tourney this year. Interesting to see how they will fare against the Bulldogs.

God, I love the Archbold district.

Archbold district is pretty down this yea imo. After Defiance and CC I think you could throw a dart to pick the next best team and it would be hard to be wrong.

Lake may improve next year but Oak Harbor and Maumee will be in the league and I think both have pretty solid baseball programs. Either could have probably fought for 2nd and given Eastwood a game or two this year and have some solid guys returning.

On a side note I’m wondering how many NBC schools fielded a freshman baseball team this year? It doesn’t really matter in terms of scheduling, just interested what numbers look like for most schools.

I can’t tell ya anyone else’s history for sure but Lake has had a freshman baseball team one time in the last 30 years, it was the early 2010’s. Heard they only had 3 or 4 freshman a year ago and half a dozen this year.
On a typical yearly basis, Lake has scheduled both new league schools in out of league play. Typically a good game. I know Lakes faired pretty well against both over the years. Beat em both last season. Lost to Maumee 2-1 in 21 and beat OH 8-0.

Bradyn was hurt while diving for a grounder at SS against Clay earlier in the week. I haven't heard anyone say he's officially not coming back, but his arm was in a sling so I assume he's done for the season. The top 3 pitchers have been having good seasons, but his numbers were the best, so that takes away a big option on the mound.

Saw him against CC, very good reason why they had him a shortstop. Very much a leader for that team, hope it is nothing too serious.

Jimenez has thrown like two no hitters this year and chucked a one hitter against CC. Kiessling looked like he had a little trouble with Wauseon but I'm sure the rain and weather didn't help that at all, he's still a very solid dude for them. They have a league game against OG before their contest with Bryan, I'm sure they will be saving their arms for the district Thursday and Saturday.

Gotcha, looking at Maumee’s freshman schedule it appears they didn’t play any NBC schools this year, put up an impressive record of 15-3 though. Don’t know if many of them will play varsity next year though, I believe only one freshman played any JV.

The games I can remember between Maumee and Eastwood and Lake specifically have always been competitive. I obviously don’t expect the Panthers to win the NBC in baseball every year but I do expect them to consistently battle it out with the top teams for a shot at it.

Eastwood, #1 team in D3, wins one tournament game and is eliminated from the tournament.
Ran into a really good pitcher (especially for D3) so I wasn’t shocked but I’m sure they feel like they’ve underachieved a bit the last couple of years after the regular seasons they’ve had.

We’ll get Anthony Wayne or Springfield vs Clay or SJJ in D1 for a district title. Defiance vs Central in D2 and Ottawa Hills vs Archbold should be a good matchup in D3. Oak Harbor is still around as well, they’ll play Edison is D3.

Springfield played AW startlingly close in both of their matchups, IIRC they traded wins with them in season?

Dukate vs. pick an arm from Clay. Will be a pitchers duel until whoever’s starter cracks. I’d like to see Clay get some postseason hardware IMO. I think they have more offense than SJJ, but Wagner always makes things dangerous for the Titans.

Defiance vs. Central rematch! Jimenez will probably get the ball for the Bulldogs, no clue what the Irish’s pitching situation is for them. Defiance losing Shaw doesn’t help a ton, but knowing them they always have another guy up. It will be a great display of small ball from both programs. Hard one to miss in Archbold.

Anthony Wayne went 14-0 in league play, I think they’ll win this one too. Springfield has had a successful year but the Generals are the deeper team and pitching should be pretty even. Clay vs SJJ is a true toss-up game to me but I lean Clay as well.

Clay beat Central yesterday 7 - 2.

SJ travels to Findlay today I believe. If they win, the TRAC title is theirs outright. If they lose, they share with Clay.
