I commend that kid (and any kid really) who cuts that kind of weight for wrestling. That provides a better frame for adding weight in terms of strength through a good weight room regiment in the spring and summer. If kids losing weight and becoming healthier as a result is a bad thing, then I think you need to re-evaluate your stance on HS athletics.
As an OLine coach and wrestling coach, there is no better combination of sport to prepare young men (and women) for life. Go wrestle, become leaner, come back to the weight room, get stronger. Rinse and repeat.
Well, let me clarify. I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing. I guess that would be up to each individual coach to decide whether it is good or not. I imagine a lot of coaches would love to see their lineman cut weight and become leaner, more athletic. There are also coaches that want their kids to gain weight. I would imagine a lot of it has to do with the schemes they run and what they are asking kids to do. and the physical attributes each kid currently has.
Secondly, the athlete I gave the example of was in no way overweight when he was at 206 pounds. I'm not sure this particular kid losing 24 pounds (in a few months time) has made him any healthier. This has nothing to do with a stance on HS athletics at all,
