Global warming?

The track and chain on my garage door snapped yesterday morning and now my furnace has decided to go out. Pretty awesome.

Maybe start burning furniture?

 Fortunately it hasn't come to that yet.
Started a fire on the first floor, turned on the gas fireplace in master bedroom, got a heavy duty heater running in the basement to keep the pipes from freezing and both kids rooms' already had space heaters going so they're nice and warm.

I don't believe in the "global warming" accusations at all, and I don't look at these extremely cold temps as a validation of my beliefs. I believe the climate has ebbs and flows of temperatures and weather patterns. DO I believe we could be doing harm to the environment, absolutely, but to make the claim that the Earth is warming up and the ice caps are going to melt away and eliminate mankind in 100 Million years, heck, who gives a crap?! Who cares if it is in 100,000 years? Supposedly the sun will burn out before then, so let's worry about what we can do now to help ourselves out. I try to recycle when I can (get it, CAN), I try to only flush the toilet once a week to save water (yes, it may be disgusting and stinky, but I am doing my part, what are you guys doing??!!), I try to use as little toilet paper as possible and use my undergarments to absorb the remnants (it will wash out, trust me, my wife yells at me all the time about it, but they do come pretty clean!), and I try to keep my thermostat at a reasonable temperature (nothing funny to place in parentheses here, sorry). JUst keep on, keepin' on, as Joe Dirt said!

My garage door is acting all sorts of crazy. It's been so loud going up and down. I'm thinking I should leave it down and just park outside until it warms up a bit?

You know, I was with you for a little while there, but, well......

I see little need to make extreme sacrifices if we can't even make an intelligent guess as to what is gained by the sacrifice. A poster in another thread referred to footage of glaciers or icebergs breaking down and peeling off chunks in to the ocean. It reminded me of an ad with a poor Polar bear on a vanishing iceberg that we needed to preserve the Arctic for. Do we really want to crash our industrial base to buy polar bears and penguins another 17 months ? For all we know, that may be all we are accomplishing.

FanDad,

I was joking about all of that stuff about flushing once a week, etc. I do try to recycle, but that is about it.

Wayd????wtf man. What let to its deletion ??

BcB's scorched-earth moderating style. He needs to lock it up before slide loses it completely... or just delete the extreme post and lock the rest.

Is there some sort of mod workshop yappi could send BcB to ? He needs a little work. I warned a year ago that he would be drunk with power....

Well, it is going to be 45 on Saturday, so it must be Global Warming. I can hear the Global Warming peeps now: "One of the symptoms or global warming is that extremely cold spells will be followed immediately by an intense thawing and then back to normal average temps and weather patterns for about a week or two, then we may see another really cold spell, or maybe it will just be around normal temperatures for the rest of winter. We really don't know yet, but we know that it is due to global warming that these weather patterns are like this."

You lost all credibility with this sentence alone. The term 'global warming' is a bad term and is now being abused by the "it's cold, there can't be global warming" nonsense. If you get away from extremist views on the subject and look into the science, the natural climate cycles are fully recognized. The theory of global warming is that we're making those cycles more extreme. People have bought into the fiction of movies like Day After Tomorrow as "science" and need to look into the real scientific evidence of these climatic changes.

If you are a teacher and this is what you are throwing up to your students THIS is total nonsense. Unless of course Al Gore told you all this too. From the Internet that he also invented.

It's not worth explaining, trust me.
