Elder Football 2020

That’s why I’m a fan of objective ranking systems like the Harbins or BCS.

We’re pretty much guaranteed some GMC paper tiger will go 5-1 and take a seed much higher than they deserve—just like basketball voting. Colerain will of course finish 6-0 and be #1 unless St. X convincingly sweeps the GCL-S and also finishes 6-0.
I agree. Colerain pretty much has the #1 seed already based on 9 votes (I am guessing Middletown isn't playing) vs 3 votes( probably 4 because I believe LaSalle will be D1 with all the other not playing (Middletown, Hillard schools, CPS, and so on).

The Harbins never seeded correctly, but they usually got the best 8 in.

Who cares about seeds and rankings ! If you are seeded higher and lose , then seeding wrong , if seeded lower and win , then seeding is wrong! You either win a championship or you don’t ! Play who’s in front of you and move on. Wrestling , in my opinion is the only sport that I think you can have different results based off a different draw each time! Football is not the same , team sports , seeds don’t matter the best team wins !
The higher seed will determine the host school for at least the first four rounds of the playoffs (assuming 7 rounds).

Are we sure divisions will be reassigned? The OHSAA’s FAQ didn’t mention that.

No

OHSAA said:
Q.Why is the commitment date on September 17 but the with draw with out penalty date is September 24?
A.We need commitments by schools to enter the playoffs by September 17 so that regions can be drawn on September 18. Once regions are drawn ,that information will be given to the coaches in that region.

Also OHSAA

Q.Will there bea pre‐determined number of rounds for the playoffs in each division?
A.No, the number of rounds will be based on the number of teams that enter in each division .Divisions with 32 to 64 teams will have six rounds. Divisions with 65 teams or more will have seven rounds.

I associate Divisions with Regions. So I probably am wrong. I would guess that with some districts opting not to play that would mean the normal 72 teams in D1 would be lower, so they would then move up teams. I am assuming too much therefore I am probably wrong.

I know no one knows this right now, but does it revert back to the Top 10% of teams have to be Division 1?

Mid American Conference(MAC) cancels fall sports season. Looks like UC football loses 2 games. This keeps going in the wrong direction.

I started putting together a spreadsheet with D1 and D2 schools based on what the OHSAA released in April. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/193V54QlPSnsdDnL1xNlAlc70DUWOom8rLCdRxBNVJY0/edit?usp=sharing

I crossed off a couple of schools I knew off the top of my head are in school districts that have said they won't play or where the county health department said they recommend against sports in the fall. It's probably missing a lot of schools that might not participate in football in 2020.

La Salle is #21 in D2 based on the "Football Adjusted Enrollment." If divisions are reassigned and if Cincinnati Public Schools, Cleveland Metropolitan Schools, and Middletown don't participate in the playoffs then it looks like two local schools that could be moved up to D1 are Winton Woods and Loveland.

That’s simply not true. Seeding matters a hell of a lot. I think the best option is 6 GCL games and a city tournament.

I believe the MAC’s decision was based on $. A lot of them lost their big pay day not being able to play the P5. However, I do think sackless University Presidents are scared of the media and can’t make decisions for themselves. The media doesn’t want sports of any kind, allowing Pro sports to proceed is their idea of a compromise.

Nice work. I am wondering if enough schools don't play that they go back to six division just this year. But as I type that, OH$AA has always been about more trophies. If 8 schools drop or don't play that puts it at 64 teams for D1 and 64 is a nice number for tournaments.

Are you aware of any schools not playing I didn’t cross off?

How does it matter when home field advantage not an advantage! How does it matter when some of the better teams won’t be participating. There needs to be sports but it just simply not going to be the same thing.

Who isn’t participating?

Who isn’t participating?
Let’s see how many teams start , then stop and back out . If not , then that’s great. If seeding is so important, seed the teams , declare the winners based off that and why bother playing! Number 1 isn’t always number 1 , of all years this year will probably be the year that shows .

Not in the know as much as i used to be best guess:
QB- Hambleton, Ramsey, Schoester
RB- Johnson, Paff/Flowers/Summers?
FB-Schlacter
WR- Nieman, Harp
WR- Neville, Broxterman, Klusman
Slot- Ramsey, Sabato
TE- Larkins, Kirch, Browne
OL: Beckenhaupt, James, Singler?, ?, ?
-maybe one of the sophs Bass or Monk step up or some of the DL guys might have to play both ways
DE-Folzenlogen, Larkins (Pass rush specialist)
NG- Tucker, Conners
DE- Willenborg/Kaiser
LB- Stemler, Mitchell, Paff, Spinney/Schlachter?
CB- Thomas and Miller
Saf- Wandstat, Flowers/Sabato?

That's mostly what I heard also. I still think you will see Tucker line up at offensive line because of the need. I think they could play Sabato at corner and Miller at Safety if need be. Nieman should have a big year at WR. This team is going to surprise a lot of people. Defense will be the strength, but the offense will be very good too.

I think this team will play themselves into competitive football games with most opponents. What I think will be missing is the veteran, poised upperclassmen that can make a play when a play is needed. So much of last season, when a play was needed in the most crucial moment, a senior made a play.

I think this team will be right there, but some of those instances might go in the other direction. Could be the difference in 3-4 games. A ton of big receivers and tight ends, should be a lot of options for whoever ends up playing QB.

I think LaSalle will have something to say about that. They are loaded. GCL order on paper:

LaSalle
X
Elder (close to X)
Moe (better but not there yet)

Lebanon suspends football , college next , should flip flop spring sports . Everyone is on same page with scrambling to put things together , at least sports could happen

The Big Ten presidents reportedly voted, 12-2, to not play this fall. Only Nebraska and Iowa voted to play.

The problem is this will be too difficult to pull off football in Ohio in the spring. It is already likely too late to move baseball to fall. Now, you are going to ask schools to try to pull off having a football and baseball season in the same sports season? That just won't work. You need to have football in the fall or they will just have to cancel football this year.

Not so fast, my friend. The Lebanon superintendent said their football team "is expected to resume practice prior to the first football game scheduled for August 24."

If The B1G conference decides to suspend football as everyone expects, that will be the death knell for fall football in Ohio in 2020.

I disagree. Different factors at the high school level. Plus, OHSAA would be on the verge of bankruptcy.

I agree they need the football tournament to pay their staff. The one guy said it in the interview posted mid July.

Did you have a pencil waving in your hand when you said that? I agree if the Big 10 folds no High School football.

My daughters college just moved fall sports to spring. D-2 sports may not suffer but D-3 May have a death sentence , no sports mean a lot of kids will leave and go elsewhere!
