Buchtel-East District Semifinal Suspended Due to Fight (Buchtel Advances)

A novel thought: Hand out a one-year "death penalty" to both schools and make any underclassmen on the teams ineligible for next year should they try to transfer to another OHSAA school. Harsh, but should have a far-reaching effect beyond one school year.
There were three technicals, a near fight and a fan ejected in the Jackson-Hoban game. Should they receive punishments close to this?

Seriously people…are you really proposing punishing kids that showed discipline and had nothing to do with the fight?

They are trolling. No one in their right mind would think punishing kids who did nothing wrong is the right move. Let alone handing out death penalities to whole programs. ?

Who wins the fan from and who were the technicals on???

This is my post from the other thread:

didn't see a hard foul. The Hoban player jumped into the Jackson player to draw the foul. Jackson player took offense, said something and bumped his head with his shin as he walked over him. Officials didn't see it. Hoban player got mad and walked towards that Jackson player and said something. Jackson player said something and they squared off. Both got technicals. Hoban player was restrained by his teammates. Jackson player retreated. Did not see any bench players leave the bench area.

The group of players moved to the opposite end of the court off camera. Another player from Jackson then got the second technical.

A fan was removed from the game by one of the game officials. He wore a jacket that made it difficult to know which team he was supporting. Guessing he was from Jackson. Seemed to blow a kiss toward the student section across from the Hoban bench. Both fan bases were screaming at the officials about the altercation.

A death penalty should serve as a warning to players on every team--not just these two--leave the bench and you can just keep on walking. Slaps on the wrists work only until the next time. Keep coddling these players and there will be a next time. The line has to be drawn some time and this time is as good as any. Or do you want to wait until some "parent" comes out of the stand packing heat?

I feel as if it were really up to you all the kids would go to jail.

Gilmour has Buchtel's number today, not only did they beat them in Basketball. Their Girls Indoor track team outpaced the Lady Griff's at the Indoor State Championships bringing home the title, while the Lady Griff's had to settle for what I believe is their 4th Indoor runner up title.

Who didn’t play for Buchtel?

Their bigs. 6-6 Harmon and 6-7 Wells

Yes, the message we want to send is that kids who follow the rules, stay on the bench and don't engage should be punished and have the game ripped out from under them. Solid strategy. I guess the Boyce kid who ran around holding kids back and trying to stop the fights should be dropped off at Dan Street.

I think we've found one more occupant of the Clark Ignore Lounge.

I was at the game on Saturday. The technicals were just for general jawing back and forth, nothing serious. Nobody left the bench and cooler heads prevailed.
I hear the police presence was heavy on the Buchtel side Saturday, even telling their fans not to cheer so loud or risk being put out. I wasn't there Saturday (prior obligations), good thing I might have gotten in trouble and embarrassed Buchtel even more.

And Gilmour was missing one of their starting guards with an ankle injury. Oh by the way from Atlanta go Lancers. Does anyone know if the regional semis will be streamed anywhere ?

Gotcha. I was actually at the Jackson/Hoban game where the jawing took place at the end. And a fan got tossed too.

Definitley beefed up the police presence from the previous game but they were equally strict on both sides, I saw the refs telling the police on who needs to be warned or to go.

I think a lot of people that havent walked the halls of an APS school in the last 10-15 years would be shocked at how much they dont know that goes on and unfortunately leads to just a slap on the wrist from above. As someone above mentioned, until parents are held accountable, these kids are going to just continue to do these things. It should not all be on teachers and administration.
Amen!!!!!!!!!!

Another one who sides with these all-too-many liberal judges who hand out OR bonds and the perps are back out on the streets doing the same thing--orworse.

I'll type slower for you. I am in favor of punching the wrongdoers.
A valiant effort, Clark, but in vain. Just remember...

Quoting from the Akron Beacon Journal : "The North Ridgeville Division I boys basketball district semifinal between second-seeded Buchtel and 12th-seeded East was suspended Wednesday when a fight between the two squads erupted. Fans poured onto the floor and it took a while for police to restore order.
The Griffins were ahead 52-35 with 2.5 seconds left in the third quarter and both teams were escorted to their respective locker rooms after referees halted the action.

"The OHSAA and the Northeast District Board will review the video and the officials reports," said Jeff Cassella, who is the interim secretary and spokesman of the Northeast District Athletic Board. "Once we receive all that information, we'll gather in the morning and make a determination as to what we're going to do.
