Are we ever going to win?? Like Ever???

'06-'07 team had an all-time great freshman class with a few very good older complimentary pieces. Tremendous ball guard play (Conley and Butler), freak show post player (Oden), lengthy shooters (Lewis and Harris), and on and on. That team likely wins a title without having an all-time great team of older players at Florida that year.

The run of teams Thad had later on that made the Sweet 16 or further didn't have nearly the pieces that group had. Particularly had deficits in height/athleticism in the paint and in not having enough perimeter shooters.

I can't think of his name at the moment, but I can't get out of my head now Sullinger getting his butt handed to him by the jorts wearing dude from UK.

Jared Sullinger was a great college basketball player as a low post scorer. He also had some serious upper end limitations against height and athletic length that was a major Achilles heel for those teams.

I still to this day believe OSU was the more talented team between them and Florida but Thads insistence on running a 2-3 zone the entire game absolutely killed them. With their athletic ability there’s no reason they should have ever been in zone. They didn’t run it right and they left Lee Humphries open multiple times that game. Oden absolutely dominated Florida inside

Also, Darwin’s Cook and David Lighty needed to be playing more over Jamar Butler who essentially gave the team nothing in that game

Another Thad screw up game. Dallas Lauderdale should have been playing along side Sullinger the entire game inside to negate Kentuckys length advantage. Go back and watch the first few minutes how well OSU controlled the inside and rebounding when Lauderdale and Sullinger were in the game. Then Thad takes Lauderdale out about 5 mins into the game and he never plays again. Just ridiculous on all levels

No one is saying those teams were as talented or complimentary as the 07-08 team. However you said they haven’t had a connected or cohesive team since then. That’s just incorrect.

No comment on the Final Four or Elite 8 team the following two years?
Well it's been at least 11 years that's a long time in sports and I could back and forth on what "connection" means to me however I do agree that the Sullinger, Craft, team, most them played together in AAU so they were connected but again that's been twelve years and that the fact is they don't get any impact players, just "fit the profile" players or no "dawgs". They never have chemistry, or role players(intangible guys) that's why they're so inconsistent. They're the biggest most prestigious school in the state but not the best basketball program in the state.

Who is Darwin Cook?

Really who is better.

Yeah, Holtmann was terrible at roster construction. He’s no longer around.

Who is the best basketball program in the state? Dayton I guess in the last 5 years. They also have the luxury of not having a scholarship football program. But outside of a few one off years no one in the state has had stellar success in the last 10 years. UC did well in a non P6 conference for awhile but routinely no showed in March and were dominated by their rival, XU has a a couple sweet 16 appearances and an Elite 8 appearance but has just one conference regular season title and had some pretty, pretty bad years in the Steele era. I’d guess I have to give it to Xavier who doesn’t even have a football program so yeah I’d hope they’d be the premier basketball program in the state since it is by far biggest expenditure in it’s athletic department.

It is apples to oranges when comparing conferences and teams. IMO if UD was in the BIG they would not even made the NCAA tourney this season. Big is a very physical conference would have UD or X (maybe 2 or 3 teams) had enough capable bodies to compete for an upper half finish in the BIG I don't think so.

Edit: But coaching is everything and right now other than maybe Miller at X no great coaches in Ohio, hopefully that changes with Diebler.

The Big Ten is no more physical than any other power conference.

Dayton would have had a really hard time in a power conference this year. Next to zero depth with injuries.

Best program has been kind of fluid year to year between Holtmann running a very mid program and UC, X, and UD all being very capable of being pretty good.

I agree with you within the past 5 years I would say Dayton. Potentially two lottery picks w/in the last 5 years, top 25 program 4 of the last 5 years, 2 tournament appearances in that time period no other program in Ohio can boast that w/in the last 5 years especially the mid-majors.

What??? Name the NBA players Matta coached? Mike Connely is the only one unless Michael Redd was there when he was. Ouside of that, not much NBA type talent.
Michael Redd was way before Matta. That was like the late 90s.
