In Basketball?? Like damn we haven’t won a title since 1960 and right now are not even close. Haven’t made a sweet 16 since 2013.

It’s either we have great talent with bad coaching or great coaching with bad talent we just cannot get it done.

How on earth a program with the resources OSU has only have only player on the roster over 6’10 is just criminal. OSU had a chance to put the game away but Ty Rogers size kept Illinois afloat until Dain Dainja ended OSU.

I don’t care about anyone says but there’s absolutely NO REASON with the RESOURCES and EXPOSURE this program has that they cannot be as successful as UNC is year in and year out. You cannot and will not ever convince me otherwise.

What this fanbase has been exposed to these last 10 years is absolutely a crime against nature

Is the exposure of Ohio State basketball really all that great? The majority of its games seem to be shunted away to either BTN or a Peacock stream. Almost no one is going “What should I watch tonight?” and channel surfing and settling on BTN. And no one is randomly going to be on Peacock and say, “Oh, I should really check out this OSU basketball stream.”

Walk into almost any bar in America and ESPN is probably on, and there’s a decent chance FS1/FOX is on. Teams on ESPN a lot like UNC, Duke, Kentucky and other SEC teams have much more exposure to the general public than Ohio State, who essentially relies on getting picked for the occasional CBS weekend game. And FOX and FS1 heavily feature most Big East teams. Teams like UConn, Marquette and Creighton are front and center often while OSU toils away in anonymity on a Peacock stream that will only be watched by fans specifically going searching for that game.

Not gonna disagree with anything you said for this past season but Peacock really didn't become a thing until this season. Up until then OSU was always on ESPN, Fox, or CBS.

Moving onto next season idk who the coach is going to be but they better hit a grand slam here. I don't care who leaves because even if they all come back I don't see this team being very good. They have nobody on their current roster who's going to replace Jameson Battle's scoring, the 2024 recruiting class was a dud, and they still have absolutely no size across the board outside of Okpara.

Tonight proved you cannot only have one player over 6'9 getting consistent minutes, you need 2 or 3 of those guys. They have nobody coming in from the 2024 recruiting class OR transfer portal who is over 6'6. Roster has just been horribly constructed, maybe the new coach can fix it in the transfer portal but i doubt it.

How is ND bball doing, even less irrelevant than ND football that is really low. Wasn't the OSU - Purdue game one of the most viewed games of the year. Your jealousy of OSU is a stinky cologne.

STHU. Holtmann was a bad hire everybody knows that Matta was a very good coach. Texas has just as many resources as OSU when was the last time the Horns won a national title. The ACC (NC, Duke) and UConn have pretty much have had a stranglehold on the NCAA bball Championship. And Uconn had a coach that had a cloud over his head) Calhoun).

Thad Matta was a great RECRUITER but a pretty awful coach, that is why he underachieved so much and choked in the tournament as often as he did.

Yep, renowned underachiever and choker.

He had very good success due to his recruiting. I met Thad, great guy in every way so I can see how he recruited so well.

Go back and watch his teams though, they were playing glorified street ball and his substitutions were non existent.
Everybody sucks at OSU according to you. There are half full glass people and then there are half empty glass people. You are a 1/4 glass empty person.

Edit even though OSU has only won one National title the Buckeyes have 11 FF 4 appearances (one vacated), 6th most of any school. Of course the Buckeyes suck because they only have one national title. Fact is it is very difficult to win a national title. How many national championships does Alabama or Tx. have in bball. Or Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, UConn have in football. OSU will be very good in bball again history has proven that, again 11 FF 4's.

Although not a Buckeye fan, I 100% agree. It's the same thing as Indiana football, North Carolina football, Duke football, etc. If you're part of the basketball program in Columbus, you are a second class citizen. Football is king and it's never going to change. I agree Thad Matta was a great coach for Ohio State, but he was a little old school and that just doesn't get it these days. There is no reason Ohio State can't be a national power in basketball. Just like there's no reason Indiana football shouldn't compete for big ten titles occasionally.

What??? Name the NBA players Matta coached? Mike Connely is the only one unless Michael Redd was there when he was. Ouside of that, not much NBA type talent.

You could only come up with 2 and you are only sure about 1? 😂
Greg Oden
Daquan Cook
Kousta Koufas
BJ Mullins
Jared Sullinger
D’Angelo Russell
Keita Bates-Diop

Evan Turner, Dequan Cook, Deshaun Thomas, Jarred Sullinger, D’Angelo Russell, Keita Bates-Diop, maybe Jasean Tate.

Did any of those other than Russell (who was in Columbus for about 8 months) and Bates-Diop play more than 10 NBA games?? These are mostly G-leaguers or overseas guys. Now I'll give you Oden, if not hurt he'd had at least an 8-10 year career. Sullinger was really good in The Big Tournament! :ROFLMAO:

They all played over 100 games. Try using google

Turner and Sullinger were tremendous college players, but had games that did not translate at all towards the "Sprawlball" style of play that NBA began shifting towards early in their careers.

Hell, Sullinger went from starting for the Celtics (with okay numbers) one year, to basically being permanently out of the league partway through the next year.

No offense but there is no comparison between OSU basketball and Indiana football. OSU has been to final fours and a title game in the 21st century. Indiana I cannot remember ever winning the Big Ten much less competing on the national stage in football.

Yes, I'll give you that. But I'm just using it as a comparison. Indiana football is treated like Ohio State basketball in their respective cities.

Well it wasn’t size that was the difference. It was the terrible calls, and non calls that cost them that game.

Dude you really need to stop doubling down on your foolish comments when you are easily proven wrong. Just admit you were wrong for once. Grow up.

No! They don't get the dawgs in basketball like they do in football too many unimpactful guys. They never have chemistry or connection they just guys who fit the profile of a Power 5 D1 players but bring nothing to the table. The last connected group they had was the Oden class with Daequan Cook, Michael Conley, David Lighty. Coincidentally, they lost to Florida in the National Championship and haven't been back since.

2010-11 wasn’t a well connected team and brought nothing to the table? They lost 3 games all year. I know they lost by 2 to your Wildcats in the Sweet 16 but that was a cohesive team. UK was an 11 seed but they vastly underperformed in the season given the talent and that was evident by their Final Four run and numerous NBA guys.

2011-2012 went to the Final Four. I’d say that was a connected group that brought plenty to the table.

2012-13 team that went to the Elite 8 was another well connected group who again brought plenty to the table.

I couldn’t disagree more. The 2009, 2010, and 2011 teams all had enough talent to win a title. Like I said before the coaching wasn’t there from Thad and he was awful at using his bench. Pretty much going with the same 5 guys the entire game.

OSU needs to get a coach who can recruit like Thad and coach like Jim O Brien

You are correct, the 2010 did reach the sweet sixteen but you can amass talent and win 30+ games but to get to a
Final 4 or win a championship it takes a well-connected, oiled machine and that team was not as connected like the 07'-08' team nor as talented.

No one is saying those teams were as talented or complimentary as the 07-08 team. However you said they haven’t had a connected or cohesive team since then. That’s just incorrect.

No comment on the Final Four or Elite 8 team the following two years?
