Or - an inner city school in Div IV or III that has DI talent volunteers or is involuntarily slotted to compete in DI. In that case, who has a complaint?

Has absolutely nothing about race. Everyone across the state complains about the advantages St.X and Gates Mills Hawkins has in swimming, St. Eds has in Wrestling and St.I has in hockey.

The big issue with Africentric is that the 6' girl that plays on top AAU team in 8th grade has a much better chance of getting into the school that a girl that is 5' and is nonathletic.

Man what wrong information you have . So are you saying that the lottery office or are principal at the school lets anyone the coach says we want in get in ? Then please report this please do. Walker girl came as a 10 grader from hartley high school were a a person trying to get in that grade as a better chance then a 9 grader, because unfortunately students leave the school and transfer to other schools . Not as much now because of new building, I can tell you many girls who have not gotten into the school . One from groveport last year she is trying this year . The girl that went to centennial 5 years ago best player out of middle school did not get in , a 7 grade girl one of top in area did not get in last year trying this year . there is more

And that is the rub I have with such teams. Remember CAPE ( Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education) ? They were the first I recall (1985 or so) that hand picked athletes from all over Cincinnati to play on their teams. Then because they were small in number they played at class A level while having class AAA talent.

I understand they are within the legal right to do it, but when you hand pick athletes who apply how is that any different from private schools recruiting from their area? Both are situations that leave small community schools unable to compete on such a level. Thank goodness for league titles. They can still pursue a conference title.

Please report us because that is illegal and that is what you are saying who was handpicked who let them in. Matter of fact the number for city schools is 614 365 5000 ask for community relations and tell them your concerns. Then report it to ohssa you are stating something that is serious not a joke

You are much more knowledgable on the school than I. So it must be luck of the random lottery draw that 3 girls out of a class of 50 girls turned out to be power 5 college basketball players. With that kind of luck the coach should buy some lottery tickets.

The bigger issue is those schools are allowed to give out scholarships to athletes. Africentric isn’t giving those girls money like the big Catholic schools do. They go there because the coach gets them ready for college. I like that better than St Ed being able to offer you free tuition if you are a good football player

I have went down the reporting road before with a school that had on its web site they offered scholarships to kids who showed exceptional proficiency in art, music or ATHLETICS. OSHA looked into it and reported back to me all was fine as far as they were concerned.

I dont think you get me, I dont care who is beating up on who, my kids have long ago graduated from high school and I have no dog in the fight. To insinuate Africentric is just your average random school worth of talent is silly ( not supposed to use the other S word on here).
Like the other person said, if Africentric is that luckey to randomly find such talent, they need to be putting down some serious Jack at the casino.

All I am agreeing to, like someone said, schools like Africentric, can and do pull from all of Columbus area, approximately 1 million people, (I dont care if they recruit or girls just want to go there), do have an advantage over the Versailles, OG and the Anna's where they are pulling girls from 3,000 - 10,000 people. All three of those schools have competed with Africentric, I know Anna won several years ago, not saying that will happen this year but they have beaten Africentric.

Can you discuss without being an a-hole? I dont have anything bad to say about Africentric's ability, their players or their coaches and yes I have been around them.
 
Spring - serious question....any idea how many students apply for enrollment each year and how many are accepted/picked in the lottery? I'm not from cbus, I seriously don't know and am just wondering....
 
Spring, I love ya man, but anyone who has followed Ohio girls basketball for a decade or more knows what a "typical" level of talent looks like from DIV up to DI. You are alternately denying it is what we see and saying it doesnt matter and should be ignored. That dog ain't gonna hunt. It's too obvious what it is and too obvious that it does matter - in a competitive balance context.

I think the reason you react defensively is it sounds like some people resent AC for existing. But let me say unequivocally that I want that school to thrive in every way and launch as many boys and girls as possible into a successful adult life.

But when it comes to girls basketball, I want them to compete in DI - where they clearly belong. The fact that they dont is the fault of the ohsaa, not the school.

One you stupid person walker played at hartley her 9 grade year ans was on zero radar she played jv. She sat out half the next year when she got in not in her 9 grade year but 10 grade . She worked to were she is today work work you stupid person . now since you named the 3 please report please

When you at all say the r word you insinuate we cheat period . We dont have to are program and girls going to college does it for us. These other teams have 6 feet plus girls on there team why are they not d1 ? Matter of fact have susie apply for are school and we will put in work with her and because of rep she will get a free college education

Interesting info here....after reading, and seeing that Africentric actually rates lower than the rest of the Columbus City School District in Mathematics and Reading - I am curious as to why/how many people would be looking to enroll there? Wouldn't it be the last place to enroll a child given the academic ratings? That is, unless you had some talent on the basketball court? Also, Spring said the team GPA was 3.1, which is interesting given the poor academic ratings of the school.....

Nevertheless, the poor academic ratings COULD tell the story as to why the enrollment size doesn't grow above D3 level....because I'm not sure who is looking to go there outside of the students with athletic ability...

There is a wating list to get into the school , 379 students in high school this school year they allow about 50 to 70 slots for 9 graders each year and add more if current 8 graders decide not to go into the high school.

Do your homework better we are d3 with the perfect storm could go to d2 , plus read other posts the school is built only to hold a certain amount for k-8 and 9-12 we will never be d1 and perfect storm to be d2. And you again rear your racist views with this post. Since you like to do research racist person . Just about every school in columbus on state report card are no good but that does not mean you cant get a good education from any of them

I post an article - from a national website btw - that is providing hard facts and statistics about the school and the school district and somehow I'm wrong and racist. OH, OK.

See the problem is when someone calls you out for your racist takes or posts you get upset just because you think it is not and i think it is does not mean your not you just dont get it . and that is the issue with alot of people who think they say something and think its ok but for a person of color and who kids went to columbus city schools or better yet for the rest of the students minus the 14 girls on team that decided to go to afro what does that make them in your mind ? You ever think of that have you dam it you stupid person . Tell the parents of students who go there ask them why they choice the school
