2025 Warren G. Harding

As an AD & coach? Absolutely! Both coached under McDaniels and are very familiar with each other.

Not even sure if Reardon is open to the idea of being an AD (I'd like to think that money would talk though), but Warren would absolutely love for these two to be working side by side again.

Fair enough. Comes down to egos I suppose. I remember when McDaniels came to Massillon as an AC he did not mesh well with the HC due to differences in opinion on strategy and personnel. AD and coach is a bit different but I look at both as coaches.

I’m sure financially Cafaro’s take care of Reardon quite well, pension is the only allure to go back to a public school

Don't discount the allure of bringing a title back to WGH. That's worth multiple titles at an Ursuline or private school as far as legacy goes. Imo.

Reardon potentially leaving Ursuline would have to be about more than finances. I obviously can’t speak for him, but I can tell you that he loves Warren. He’s one of (if not thee) main reasons why Harding & Canton McKinley started playing each other again. Prior to that, they only had 7-on-7’s together. When he saw me at one of them in 2015, he jokingly got on me for “not bringing him any food from Eli’s.” 🤣. As a matter of fact, he was the first one who told me the rivalry was getting renewed for 2017.

Personally, I don’t expect Reardon to leave Ursuline. He’s turned them back into a force and I’m beyond happy for and proud of him. Outstanding coach, but an even better person. However, as a fan, I still hold out hope that he, along with Matty Rich, eventually make their way back to 860 Elm Rd. in Warren. I want it, many in the city wants it, and they both know it.

Just hope the Raiders get it right, the wrong choice could ruin the program for a long time. Unfortunately Trumbull County football is really bad right now and WGH was always the standard and top dog

Warren born and raised. I have low confidence they get this right. The fact that everyone in Warren knows we need to bring one or the other means they will botch it. If current/outgoing AA (we haven’t had an AD since Trina left), is involved, we in trouble.
If we’re lucky enough to land either or both, @TEMPESTA needs to be on that sideline too!!

I also don’t think you can discount the fact that Reardon spent time at McKinley. He was at a Harding-llike school. His children were enrolled there. He left that financial security and the pension system to return to Ursuline. We all know that Ursuline is paying him very well. We also know that his youngest is in seventh grade, and he may want to keep him in the private school system. That young man, I believe, has known no other home.

I would be very surprised if Coach Reardon was interested in going to Harding. At his age, I am not sure the pension system would be that inviting. I’m not sure how many public school years of credit he actually has. He could buy five years from the private schools and or Colorado. But how many Ohio years of credit does he have?

Unless Harding offers him six figures, no non-football responsibilities, a car for him and his wife and a 100% pick up of his state retirement system contribution, I don’t think he thinks about it for a minute.

Warren is long overdue for a capable coach, but as a long time observer, talent while it exists ,is down overall. McDaniel did a hell of a job but he also had incredible talent. Coaching ability and overall team talent went down when he left. A good coach will improve them, but he will have to do it with lesser talent than they have seen in the past. Schedule is still tough and has few cherry pickers.

Appreciate that.....I'm riding with Dominic Prologo..........So wherever he ends up being the HC is where I will be.........Loyalty means everything

Does Prologo get a shot at Canfield or do they go with someone in house like they’re DC?
I do not believe anyone on the staff will end up as head coach. Prologo is a name that’s definitely out there and 1 of 2 names being thrown around the most. However, the other name is Sean Baker, a former Canfield player who went on to play at Ball St, and had a short stint in the NFL. He was an assistant at YSU for a few years and is currently with the Houston Texans. He was an assistant special teams coach. The word is he’s back living in Canfield while consulting for the Texans and is the coach people would love to have. But I believe Baker and Prologo are the 2 names that make the most sense.

I guess it's safe to assume that the retired coach from South Range is not interested in getting back in coaching for a new challenge, since he'd have to be the frontrunner with his record ?

Does WGH possibly look internally if neither Richardson nor Prologo are reached out to? I know that former Gilmour Academy head coach Chris Kosiorek is on the staff. He has quite a bit of HC experience throughout the years and is a Mooney grad.

Nine days later, and this group has been silent. Has WGH rolled the welcome wagon out for Richardson yet?

Will be over sooner than later.

You hire "internally" if the successsor follows up a Chuck Kyle, Thom McDaniels, Steve Trivisonno, etc. When there is a successful structure in place and the head of the snake calls it quits, you simply hand the baton off. Personally, he current mentality of the program isn't something that I want to see duplicated moving forward. Time to start from scratch.

Short of the highly unlikely scenario of Josh McDaniels coming into Warren to coach where his father once did, Harding's job has "Matty Rich" written all over it.

I’d nominate Worm02 to be on the hiring committee and/or community liaison or similar capacity. Someone with a firm grasp on the history and the intangibles needed beyond the X’s and the O’s. The support groups are so huge in programs like ours. The new rec center could be a great step in that direction I hope it is successful.

Worm will need to be on the committee to get the Richardson deal done...Arnold actually has the role that you describe above. I'd imagine he has a pretty big say in who replaces him.

I greatly appreciate the compliments. Trust and believe that my voice on this matter has been heard loud & clear by all :ROFLMAO:

Steve Arnold is a good man Ran a great “program”. Cared about kids. Organized. Study tables, discipline, great with families and helped a ton of kids get into schools. Many things most urban programs would die for. But in Warren, like Canton, Massillon, etc you are judged by wins and losses.

Was he a great X and 0, old school football coach. Probably not. But all of the above reasons made him “successful”

Here is the irony. He won many many basketball games with 60-70% of his production being “imported” talent.

Post Lynn Bowden he really focused on the youth of Warren. And those were many of the people that turned on him. If Arnold had run football like hoops he would have brought in a bunch of kids and hurt the Warren Kid.

But he chose to take care of the kids and his city and that city just doesn’t have enough to sustain the level people are accustom to

Truthfully, basketball hasn’t been much different. Post Arnold, Vlajkovich (sp) brought in talent and they were pretty good.

Franklin went the Warren kid route and the results have been the same as Arnold in football. Solid. Not great.

tough times to be a high school coach in a decaying urban city with high expectations.

Warren, find you a Nate Moore.

This is a major stretch and those on here that know me personally knows exactly what I'm talking about. The damage has been done though, so there's no need to take that trip down memory lane.

As far as Coach Moore goes (my guy!), he's a great example of a perfect "marriage" between coach & community. Of course, the perfect example of that would be Marion Local. The way that those kids are raised at home aligns perfectly with how they are coached and I absolutely love the fact that their success completely destroys the garbage "competitive balance" system that the OHSAA implemented. Moore wasn't "deeply rooted" in Massillon before he took that job, but his background of building successful programs in the MAC & GCL is exactly what the Tigers needed. You can look at his social media and instantly tell just how passionate he is about enhancing Massillon's tradition and getting his athletes to the next level.

I'm not exactly sure who all applied for the Harding job, but even I have had coaches from both Ohio & PA hit me up (yes, ME) for info about the vacancy, so I'm sure that there's plenty of interest that I don't know about. I do know that Rick Shepas, Anthony Elias, and my guy Matt Richardson are all receiving heavy consideration. I've found a way to be vocal while "staying out of the way" at the same time and while I'm unsure of the accolades of the other (on my end) unknown potential candidates, Richardson checks every box for me as, like Moore is with Massillon, he's exactly what Warren needs. Would love to see a deal done early this week.

Harding has one shot at this. Hopefully, they won't screw it up.
