Last year PSU broke the NCAA record for most pts scored. They may have a chance to break that record again. Another record w/in their grasp is 10 AAs which has only been done by MINN in 2001. A win in the 1/4s guarantees a spot on the podium. Looking at their matches at noon, only Byrd vs Davis would be considered an upset, and not a huge upset. Byrd won an earlier bout in Feb 7-1. I think they are solid to heavy favorites in all the other matches, except maybe Beard vs Barr, which could be a coin flip (altho I'd pick Barr here). Even if they take a loss or 2, they can come back thru the consos to get on the podium. Other records on the table include most champs. Not sure but they may have that record from last year (or maybe a tie).

On paper - Davis looks to be the one who could be the odd man left off the podium here - would need to beat Byrd this morning or potentially will catch Nasir Bailey coming back through who was upset last night by Zan Fugitt from Wisconsin.

Seth is the lowest seeded wrestler to be in the 1/4’s Just an observation.
Wolak from VT at 174 and Sollars from Indiana at 197 are the lowest seeds left in the 1/4's. Both are 24 seeds. Shumate at 23.

Regardless, Seth making the 1/4's is an impressive run. He has wrestled well even though he has taken a lot of heat and criticism throughout his career. I won't say it's not completely valid as he was a high level recruit coming out of high school and hasn't had the success many would have expected from his HS results, but he is putting things together nicely and at the right time and has made an impressive run this weekend - hoping it continues! Might be in a tough one this morning with Buchanan and again tonight in Rd. 12 the consi path of guys potentially coming through are tough also, but he's wrestling well and hopefully he can pull another match out that "on paper" he's not supposed to win and break through with an AA performance for the Bucks!

Cal Poly + Cal State Bakersfield both with All-Americans, pretty cool. Also heard Purdue hasn't won a national championship in something like 30 years- Blaze with a favorable semis match to make the finals.
