A quick NEO team update.

Defending Div II title holder, NDCL, has taken a Padua like plunge this year. So far they are 1-4 playing a below average schedule. They have yet to run through the tough part of the schedule too which includes Gilmour, Lake Catholic, & Magnificat. Also hearing crazy Joe moved the Jerevicius family to Nebraska to follow Caroline and get younger Ava some more exposure. So far its not looking too good as Nebraska is loaded with young pins and she has yet to see the court.

Saw that. Starting 4 freshmen and she's not one of them.

That Nebraska team is loaded with young talent. Harper Murray is a freshmen playing 6 rotations. It is a tough lineup to crack for any player. Would not surprise me to see a couple of Nebraska players in the transfer portal after this season.
Daughter played at Caroline's club, AVC, and we still talk to the coaches. They were not sure why she picked Nebraska over Penn State where she would have been the top Freshmen coming in but then again Joe pointed her in directions away from his alma maters. He played football for Lake Catholic yet it was never considered for his girls, then played football for Penn State and again was not in the picture for Caroline. Both are top volleyball programs at their levels, kind of crazy if you think about it.

Going to Nebraska as an Outside Hitter in the same class as Harper Murray must of been a tough decision. I get the desire to compete at the highest level, but you have to recognize sometimes who else is in the room. Penn State might of been a better choice but then again they brought in Karis Willow from Liberty Benton, OH who I think is being redshirted. At the end of the day to play at one of these Elite programs you are going to have to compete with the best of the best to play.

As the calendar moves to September, league competition begins, and we can now get an idea what the GCL will look like.

SUA seems to be the slight favorite. They are undefeated against a good non-conference schedule. Seton is also undefeated, but their schedule has not been as strong.

From what I have been hearing - SUA is the outright favorite for this tough league and the remaining 4 spots are all up for grabs as everyone has played at least 1-2 really good teams. Outside of these few games, the strength of schedule has been less than desirable to determine how these teams will perform in the league

Hopefully everyone stays healthy in the league - this year will be another fun year to watch

Seton sweeps SUA on all three levels. GGCL is up for grabs.

NEO update.

Padua continues to struggle and now sits at 2-5 but against a much stronger schedule than what NDCL has been playing. Mags, St. Joes, and Holy Name seem to be eating into their base and they are struggling to get high level girls interested in the program. For the Cleveland area it has sorted into the following tiers

Lake Catholic (I believe they have only dropped 1 set in matches against 3 of the 4 teams listed below)

Magnificat
Gilmour
St. Joseph Academy

Holy Name

The pubs have individual talent but not the depth to unseat the above come playoff time. I am hearing Independence has taken a step back too but it is hard to gage them as they have played a weak schedule so far.

Which of those in NEO are in D1? Gilmour is 2 correct?
Magnificat & St. Joseph Academy are Div I. Gilmour & Holy Name are Div II. Lake Catholic is Div III.

FYI Mags does have a new coach that you SWO fans will know, Matthew Onweller. Previous coach was a big name in the area too, Megan Green. She won a title at Holy Name and then at Mags.

That is crazy talk. Seton and SUA are both loaded.
Yeah, Lake Catholic may be the best team in NEO but not sure about the state. We will see when the state finals come up but with Padua & NDCL down their conference comp level took a serious dive, Gilmour is the only conference team who will push them the balance of the year,
