2022 Cleveland Browns Thread

Y2h - Two reasons why NFL owners would be unhappy with the Browns ownership over the $230 mil FULLY guaranteed contract
* This jumps the qb’s pay scale up significantly fir the pending free agent qb’s. Ari Kyler Murray signed for $231 w/ $160 mil guaranteed. Bal will probably have to go $250 mil over 5 years fir Jackson. Cin & Chargers will go north of $250 mil over 5 years for Burrow & Herbert
* By NFL policy, owners have to put 75% of guaranteed salary into escrow. Thus the Browns had to put $172.5 mil into escrow when they signed Watson. The Haslam’s are multi billionaires, they have the liquid cash to do so. The Bengals & the Brown family do not have that liquidity nor do the Raiders & Mark Davis or some of the old guard NFL owners.

And Deshaun then plays in week one.
Only if the judge issues a temporary order allowing it.

The NFL‘s decision would be final with neither side being able to appeal further. Therefore that punishment could be enforced as the civil court isn’t part of the legal bargaining agreement.

gosh a ruddies, a team gives 230 million dollars to a serial sexual abuser of women and you wonder why they are hated.
The hate has little to do with the money ( except with club owners) and more for the sex angle, which was facilitated by the Texans, not the Browns.

gosh a ruddies
it seem quite reasonable to hate both the team that facilitated his actions and the team that rewarded a serial sexual abuser

A lot of outside pressure for the League to lengthen and add a fine to this ruling, it is not a slam dunk as there are consequences if Goodell unilaterally decides to make changes. Namely the Union will take them to court and probably get an injunction so Watson could play week 1 and make this the primary story for most of the season.

As they say in TV, to be continued...
It’d be truly funny if it goes to court, judge issues a stay. Browns start like 14-0….Judge agrees suspension should’ve been suspended 6 games. Watson’s not out the last 3 games of the year and any playoff run the team may make.

Boo Hoo

Official: NFL WILL appeal. Watson in for much more punishment. The league had no choice. Of course, the person who hears the appeal will rule in favor of the NFL.

Yes Murray got a slightly more lucrative contract...and less guaranteed. Nobody has to match what the Browns did.

As for the pay scale going up for QBs were you under the impression it was going down? Those teams were always going to shell out insane money for those QBs. Again Rodgers has the biggest season salary...does everyone hate GB over it?

Goodell can't help stepping on his schlong. NFLPA going to cut it off.

Pissing all over the newly agreed upon punishment structure the first time out. CBA getting gutted.

Fascinating due process…

The parties to the action (the NFL and the NFLPA) jointly select a decider, a retired federal judge (a woman). She imposes a 6 game suspension. The NFL, one of the parties, decides to appeal. The appeal, by the NFL, will be heard and decided by the NFL…Goodell.

Sounds like the process itself is ripe for an attack

And this process was agreed upon by the union.

This entire process has been an unending clown parade.

The NFL can't fashion a decent disciplinary system that adequately doles out equitable or proper discipline so it starts over and develops a process with very little due process for the players.

The NFLPA then inexplicably signs off on the ridiculous process.

Watson, despite being rich, highly visible and having a decent reputation, insists on frequenting unlicensed women for rub and tugs.

The Texans assist Watson in securing a location and provide him with NDA's to cover it up.

The Browns mortgage their future for a guy with dozens of cases against him who is an obvious pervert who suffers from monumentally bad judgment to be the face of the franchise.

Judge Robinson confirms Watson is a perverted POS then uses the awful precedent that brought the process about to arrive at the punishment.

The NFL agrees to using Judge Robinson as the hearing officer and then undermines her and the entire process by appealing her decision, potentially setting up litigation that gets Watson on the field in week 1.

In the middle of it all are Tony Buzbee, Rusty Hardin and Roger Goodell, the three ringmasters of the circus clown show.

You really couldn't make this **** up. The only thing that makes it believable is that the Browns and Jimmy Haslam are in the middle of it.

Interesting…a serious legal professional…a retired federal judge…a WOMAN…reviews the facts, and the NFL discipline history, and imposes a 6 game suspension.

The NFL hierarchy…and the talking heads at ESPN…almost entirely MEN…are terrified of being labeled too lenient on this one because the women in their personal and professional lives are grossed out by this behavior…that resulted in ZERO criminal charges.

Imagine being in the ESPN newsroom…you’re a retired NFL football player…trying to muster the courage to defend the six game suspension. Just watched a segment. They were climbing over each other to demand more…more!

It‘s a PC hit.

Hope NFLPA sues the piss out of them. We've reached a point in this country where many label you guilty until proven innocent. And some will never accept facts. You are always guilty no matter what. Feelings matter more than proof now. Grand juries don't charge him criminally and it doesn't matter. Gotta give in to the woke

Agree...Even if Watson was a model citizen....they threw the whole pay scale out the window.

If the NFL has the final say, why go through all the processes to make it appear you are politically correct?

The NFL wants a sounding board, so when they step in, everything wasn't a waste of time but a way to be sure their decision is the "right" one!

Once the judge's recommendation is out they have three days to read the responses to decide what decision would be best.

I doubt the NFLPA will stand for having no recourse to the NFL dictating these decisions with no impartial parties input as the final decision!

Y2h - Murray got 70% of his contract guaranteed and i would guess the remaining 30% has a lot of attainable bonus - Roster, workout, there was a study requirement.

Brissett, Tribusky, Pickett, Rudolph - Browns may still have the best qb……or they could have the 4th best. If Watson is out for the 2022 season is it time to discuss the possibility of going after Jimmy G?
