The McK game was not as close as the final score. Coach V substituted freely as he should have. Refs gave Jax a little assist in the 4th but it didn't matter. McK takes sole possession of 1st place in the Fed.

McKinley senior center Brent Walker was an absolute force in the paint as he scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half to go with 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. Senior Kobe Johnson basically dictated the game with his 6-foot-4 size and passing at the point. The West Virginia recruit finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.

For Green, the second half was a 180-degree turnaround from the first. The Bulldogs outscored the Golden Eagles 33-12 over the final two quarters and claimed a 52-37 win. The Bulldogs recovered from a nightmarish second quarter that saw them turn the ball over almost as many times as they took shots. With Trey Martin scoring 13 points in the second half and Zack Oddo on his way to a double-double, Green completed a 25-point turnaround.

Hoover continued its best stretch of the season on Friday night as it handed visiting Perry a 58-39 setback. The win was the Vikings' fourth in a row, improving them to .500 both overall at 5-5 and in the Federal League at 3-3.

It was a 12 point win. See it the way you want to.
Here's how the reporter saw it:

Combining Friday with Tuesday’s home win against Green, Walker is 17-for-22 from the floor his last two games.
Jackson had no answers.

When the Polar Bears started doubling Walker on the block, he immediately kicked the ball out and it swung to Ronnell “Tae” Perie for a 3-pointer that pushed McKinley’s lead to 15.

Kobe Johnson followed with a dunk and the rout was on.

🤷‍♂️

McKinley was the better team last night but that’s how it goes. Graybill makes a difference for sure. Jackson’s problem is there obsessions with running the same set plays every possession. They do this year in and year out. This team needs to be playing in a more open offense and play more to its strengths. Running the same set plays every Fed team knows makes them looks discombobulated.

McKinley was clearly the better team last night. They played disciplined basketball, didn’t force too many shots and had multiple players who could score. Their outside shooting was a difference. That sounds counterintuitive given the domination by their bigs, especially Walker but the ability to hit 3s kept Jackson on their heals. Couldn’t get the score close until it didn’t matter. Walker didn’t play much in the second half too.

This should be a learning curve game for Jackson. They have to play better and shoot better if that’s the type of game McKinley plays night in and night out. McKinley is more talented so Jackson needs to overcome that with doing the little things better (boxing out, disciplined help defense, coming tighter off of screens, sprinting the floor after a defensive rebound, etc). Also, Jackson’s trapping D didn’t do much against McKinley and a lot of energy is expended executing it. Might be worth a rethink. Having Graybill back will help but McKinley is a tough team. Kudos to them. Would much rather play teams like that than those Jackson beats by 20.

I agree with a lot of what you said. McK has not been as disciplined the last few years but they looked really good last night and had a great game plan of working inside/out. Double Walker and he kicks it out to an open man and they were knocking down the open jumpers. Jackson continues to shoot too many 3's and not focus going inside. With the size Jackson has why they wouldn't go inside more and shot fake Walker who wants to block shots is beyond me. I also get so frustrated that the offensive sets that they run are the same ones that Fuline ran. How about a new wrinkle? This team has potential but they are too reliant on the 3 and while they have good size, none of the bigs is an enforcer/shot blocker inside. Graybill will make a difference but might not be enough. If McK can play like that every night, they can make a deep run.
