Not a bad list. I would sub Canfield and Mooney for Lisbon and Springfield though.

Two of the Mahoning Matters Top 7 go down to defeat ( #3 Austintown Fitch, and #7 West Branch).

WTH?.......Struthers boys scored 19.
I haven't seen a boys HS game in person since 2021, but the low-scoring outputs the past few years especially in the Youngstown area are rather discouraging. I mean just look at the scores that are posted just on this page 3, with losing teams scoring in the 20's, 30's and 40's...and somehow Struthers getting only 19 points last night. Heck, just a few years ago we had the Rasile kid from McDonald average around 35 ppg on his own!
How in the "one-sport-specialty-year-round-AAU-camps-nonstop summer leagues, etc" era do we get final scores like this? With the 3-pointer to boot! My Girard High Indians are winless so far and are struggling to reach 40 points each time out.

The 3-point FG was introduced in Ohio high school basketball in the 1987-88 season. Right around that time Liberty had an incredible 63-game regular season unbeaten streak stretching over parts of 4 seasons, under head coach Bob Patton, Sr., and culminating in a state final loss to St. Henry in the 1989-90 season. During that season, Liberty had 4 games where they scored in the 100's, 5 games in the 90's, and 7 games scoring 80 or more points.

Where has all the scoring gone ?

The mahoningmatters.com boys’ Super 7 basketball poll has a few changes but No. 1 remains the same.

1) URSULINE Youngstown Ursuline holds down the No. 1 spot in this week’s rankings. The Irish are 7-2 on the season with their only losses coming by three points to state power SVSM and a 7-2 Massillon team. The Irish are averaging a whopping 71.3 points-per-game.
2) EAST LIVERPOOL The talented East Liverpool Potters remain No. 2 in the poll after a 40-point win over Coshocton. The Potters are 8-1 and haven’t lost to an Ohio team this season. The Potters host Cardinal Mooney Friday night.
3) CANFIELD Canfield is No. 3 and has won seven straight games, following its win over 60-36 win over Boardman Tuesday night, led by 19 points from guard Dom Cruz. Canfield has a huge AAC game at Austintown Fitch Friday night.
4) WARREN JFK Warren JFK just keeps winning and remains No. 4. The Eagles, who have beaten Akron Hoban, the defending D1 state champion, are 8-1 and coming off a win over Boardman.
5) AUSTINTOWN FITCH Tall and talented Austintown Fitch, which sports one of the tallest front lines in the area, is No. 5 this week. The Falcons are 5-3 on the season and will host Canfield in a huge league game Friday night.
6) WARREN HARDING Warren Harding is No. 6 in the poll. The Raiders, who play an incredibly tough schedule, are 5-3. Harding was idle Tuesday but will play at rival Howland Friday night.
7) LABRAE The LaBrae Vikings are the new No. 7 team. The Vikings are 6-1 on the season and have won five games in a row. They will host the Brookfield Warriors Friday night.

So far Mooney is exposing East Liverpool. 15 point halftime lead. The Potters are really struggling getting the ball past half court against, at best, moderate pressure

Too bad JFK & Ursuline didn't schedule this year. The only game I got to last season was JFK @ Ursuline and as I recall the Eagles fought hard. I hope they win it all.
