X Season, Ohio Football

First off, I will admit to being a huge DLS guy.

Now, re X and their season.
X didnt have a schedule, they had a frickin GAUNTLET! Murderers row! They had 15 consecutive wks of games, no byes. Only possible pup-cake is wk one. They had only 2 close calls. The other 13 games were all comfortable. They were missing their all world ball carrier the first 4-5 games; their stud QB gets broken and out for the season fairly early on, and they finish up with a puppy at the helm. That tells me they are deep and very good at reloading. I have never seen a SOS to match this one! I do like DLS, and think they are very good this yr, best DLS team since o3. That being said, if I had an official vote for national champion, it would go to X. Considering their sched, there is no other possibility. X earned it on the field and they richly deserve it. The DLS nation and me tip our hats to X!

At last yrs Herbie, we sat and mingled with folks from Moe and X at the Herbie, and even visited and toured the Elder campus and were totally impressed with all three schools as being the epitome of a class act!

To Ohio, in general: You guys know how to do HS football!!!

PD:

How are you?

Nice post and great season so far for DLS. They need a Frazier though. DO they get a shot at a SS stud for their last game? If so, who is the likely victim?

Hi Conch, Well, DLS will entertain California HS, (large public) this Sat at the Oakland Raiders house. If successful, DLS will likely be the NorCal rep for the State Bowl game, the following Sat. Who gets the nod from the SoCal is tuff to speculate on, since the sole authority for the decision lies with some lady female gal who is the head of the SoCal CIF, I think her name is Ping Le Sung or something close. (Personally, I dont think she is all that well grounded in American Football.) That being said, the 3 major suspects (in logical order) are:

1. Corona Centennial (12-1)
2. Birmingham (LA City) (12-1)
3. LB Poly (12-1)

Keep in mind, that all MUST win their CIF section championship game this weekend. Birm is a lock in their game. Poly has a tuffie in Crespi (who handed Birm their only L early in the season). CC played their final;s opponent earlier in the yr, and squeaked by, like 69-7, so there is a chance they will sneak by again. CC is only one of 2 teams to beat Crespi this yr. CC loss came to Mater Dei in a non league game.
Now, keep in mind that there may be some PC thinking and emotional favoritism involved in the selections. I have a sneaky hunch that Birm will gt the nod because the CIF-LA City section has been the CIF-SoSections red headed step child for about 20 yrs now, Up until 72 or so, the City was on par with the SoSection. But, today, I would honestly suspect that an X JV team would d all but perhaps 4 of the 52 LA City varsity teams. Its that weak! I think she is gonna throw poor old LA City a bone. So my prediction for the state game will be Birm v DLS. It should be CC v DLS. and Poly v DLS would be the most attractive, gate wise.
If you have access to a dish, there is a good chance that you can get the DLS game this weekend, and the State games will all be on FSN the following Sat.

And, did you catch any more X games, after the Herbie? I know you just gotta being enjoying the HS football scene in your current hometown! (not)

Excellent post Plaindriver!! I can tell that you are a true DLS fan.....nothing but class. Not a poser like some other alleged DLS fan on here. I was mingling with many of the DLS fans at last years Herbie and they were all fantastic people who knew there football, too. I knew most DLS guys would appreciate the GCL schools and their traditions and style of football as DLS is quite similar. Hats off to the real DLS guys!

I appreciate your comments about St. X and they certainly earned it just like DLS had too when they were winning there championships. DLS this year seems very dangerous too me but they havent been thorouhgly tested as much as X so its hard to not go with X I guess. DLS did go down and put a whooping on Mission Viejo but when I saw them play an erratic Moeller team at this years Herbie, they looked extremely soft and not nearly on the level they were when the Moline brothers, Nick Reed, Williams, Bomeill were playing for the Diablos. They had some good athletes and exectued well but they were very soft up front and disappeared during the middle of the game. Not nearly as physical as past MV teams. Moeller pushed them around and X throughly pushed Moeller around up front. I suspect X would abuse MV like DLS did. Its hard to look at DLS's roster and think they can match up wtih X but I know how well conditioned the Spartans are....which is scary because all the kids are quick and strong despite being undersized. Really quick and strong kids always create huge problems at the HS level. It would be X's gigantic clone Army against DLS's highly specialized cluster of athletes. I dont think DLS has ever faced a D like X's that is so adept at stopping the run and I dont think X has ever faced a more sound and disciplined offense as DLS runs. What a game that would be!
